Sweet soul music from Steve Parks on the Dope Brother label. A reissue - and a damn good one too - from the early '80s which features soul sounds with a latin twist right through to straight up tear jerkers. Magic.

New dance version of the classic funk/blues track by Area Code 615, a band made up of Nashville session players. A 1973 release, it came to prominence on the club scene in the 80s in NYC when originally caned by Jellybean at the fabulous Funhouse, where they called it "that hillbilly jam", although it had also been famous for a decade on the other side of the Atlantic as the theme music for The Old Grey Whistle Test. The U.B.’S deliver a pretty straight-up and stripped-down version, jacked up by Todd Terry for this EP

A killer clubby groove from Steve Marshall -- the kind that reminds us of the best indie singles from the late 70s disco years! Steve plays alto sax here over a strutting, high-stepping rhythm that's got plenty of warm touches -- really glowing with a sense of soul that's great, and touched by some female chorus vocals that are very much in a Philly mode! The disco mix is great -- even more upbeat and extended than the 45 groove. "In The Country" is a great bit of club jazz -- smooth and sweet, but still with a snakey flute line in the middle -- almost like some lost Bobbi Humphrey track from her Epic years. "Do What You Will" is another chorus vocal number -- and "You Are The World" features some laidback mellow flute.

MASTERS AT WORK get their hands on this classic jazz-funk odyssey from MANZEL and freshen things up for 2003 dancefloors. This remix first surfaced on the MAW Miami 7" box set, but here it's complete with a dope dub mix and "Keyapella" for endless mixing delight. Loose, live drums with plenty of spaced out keys, funky guitars and bumpity live basslines. MAW sure knows how to dust off those old jams!
