Gary Martin has a history of creating something new by combining a couple things old. This time around the concept is what happens if we mix techno with burlesque to make the cake and then add some Berlin for the icing. A sexy 4 tracker indeed with the titles “Berlisque”, “Black Boa”, ‘More Sex Magic Voodoo”, and “Berlisque Ryan Elliott Remix”. The title track features a stomping bassline with some real drums, classic Detroit style keyboard chord hits and gentle guitar sounds. Black Boa has kind of a glam style synth riff and cheers. For the latest missive on their fast-rising DET313 label, Gary Martin and Yossi Amoyal have dug deep into the archives of Martin's long-running Teknotika Records imprint. First up on the A-side is a re-mastered version of "A City At Night", a Martin cut from 1990 that mixes the futurist intent of Motor City techno with chunkier, UK style techno grooves and the kind of stabs and musical flourishes more associated with Robert Hood or Terrence Parker records. Side B boasts a freshly extended edit of another Martin gem - this time under the Gigi Galaxy alias - from 1994. "The Dream" more than lives up to its title, with Martin wrapping restless bass, starry lead lines, alien electronics and sumptuous chords around a hypnotic deep techno groove.

Gary Martin releases his second sequential EP on Motech Records, the 'This is It' EP. The Ep features two more exclusive tracks, 'This is It' a driving composition accented with piano and synth patterns and subtle funky movement, and 'Galaxy Style' a percussive, building composition expertly laced with muted samples and synth progressions. Included on this EP are two remixes from techno veterans Mark Broom and Rolando. Broom takes on 'This is It' chopping the original into a hyper dance floor drubbing burner. Rolando re-treats 'Galaxy Style' into a composition that unfolds as it progresses, bathed in signature Rolando production elements.

Martin's Escape From South Warren LP will arrive on October 5th on the label operated by Frank Juncaj, AKA DJ 3000. Juncaj calls Martin an "unsung hero of Detroit techno" and cites his label, Teknotika Records, which has been running since 1993, as a key influence. The first remix EP, due out September 21st, features reworks by Robert Hood and DJ 3000 in addition to two original cuts. Mark Broom and Rolando contribute to the second EP, which arrives on October 12th.

After 20 years of experience, Gary Martin couldn’t resist a 12” that is also the 50th release for Teknotika: a label from Detroit that didn’t exactly stick with the game when it switched to the mp3 format. “Basking In Blackness” is a composition of textured broken beat then classic four on the floor old school soul.“Synthotika” is what would happen if a synthasizer could take over an orchestra. A track inspired by Detroit peers no doubt. “Every Bit As Beautiful” goes sensative deep house piano, a lil Latin percussion and soaring Eno-esque synths to top it off. The title is a bit sarcastic, let’s face it, there is no life after techno!

Pinky 2 Dye 4 get the ball rolling with "Understanding Neith", an intricate late night techno pleaser that has all the markings of classic Detroit techno, with a iller bassline and sublime strings the key players. Superb new outing on Moods & Grooves from Brad Peterson. "Deepness is A Way Of Life" kicks off the EP with the title very aptly describing the contents - lush deep house with a sublime piano line setting it off just right. "Melodies Of Mass Sync" is up next, with the beats having a little more pop while another backdrop of textured synths and smoky bass provide more deep house splendor. On the flip, "All I See Is Luv" continues the late night grooves, with some great vibes and gritty analog bassline blending with sweeping melodic chords and a sultry vocal snippet. This superb EP of cuts closes with "It Was Your Affection", with it's stellar analog synth play and laidback yet bumping beats combining with a snaking bassline and warm chords for another late night gem.

New 12" from Moods & Grooves, with Andre Lodemann the man behind the tracks here. "Flying" is a percussive houser than grows and grows, building on top of a great bassline as it's backbone, and surrounding that with shuffling beats and melodic chords, and then giving it a bit of a dubby overhaul for some quality late night house. On the reverse, "Jay Lee" combines a riffing guitar with a funky bassline and crisp beats on this tracky minimal groover that again has dubby touches throughout. Last up is "Seka", blending fractured shuffling beats with a dubby bassline, great organ play, and plenty of delays for a dubbed out recliner cut.

First full length release from John Tejada and Arian Leviste, with "The Dot And The Line" being a very organic form of house, and not the usual off-kilter techno you would expect from Mr. Tejada at all. There are certainly some techno elements on display, but it's mainly lush late night house and downtempo grooves here. dope!

More deep and moody grooves from Mike Grant's label. GREG STADFORD is behind the monkier Black Art who's previous production credits have included mixes of Blake Baxter's seminal 'Deep N Da Groove' ep. Nice and Jazzy the favourite cut is 'Just Groovin' a wicked blend of St Germain keys and funky organ riffs, over some skippy Detroit drums. 'Dig This' is a mellow late night journey of psychedelic horns and guitar licks with dreamy pianos floating over the top. 'Sweet' is more on a broken jazz tip with live drums and a cute vocal snip that dubs itself over the rhodes bed. The production quality of this ep is stunning. Very strong stuff from M & G!
