LIMITED EDITION RED VINYL
Drum and bass reggae legends, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespear, are the featured strongholds of The Revolutionaries, a conglomeration of many of reggae's finest studio musicians, brought together to create some of the best dub of the late 70's. "Black Ash Dub" is a wonderful example of the group at its peak. Sly's drumming prowess is at its best on this lp, complete with his famous crash cymbals on the 4th beat in 4/4 time versus the 1st beat. His skills are legendary due in large part to the bass playing of Robbie. His grooves are intense, yet very supple, and perfectly augment Sly's grooves. Each track is a tribute to a drug; the 2 major club hits are "Marijuana" and "Cocaine". All cut at the legendary Channel One recording studio in Kingston and mixed by the genius touches of dub masters Scientist and Prince Jammy. Originally released in 1980 on the mighty Trojan Records, "Black Ash Dub" is today widely heralded as one of the finest dub collections of the era and considered an essential addition to the collections of all serious fans of the genre. PRODUCED BY: Jah Thomas RECORDED AT: Channel One MIXED BY: Prince Jammy, Scientist [MUSICIANS] BASS: Robbie, "Flabba" DRUMS: Sly Dunbar, "Santa" RHYTHM GUITAR: Bo Pee, Bingy Bunny HORNS: Bobby Ellis, Deadly Headley PIANO: Gladdy ORGAN: Ansel Collins PERCUSSION: Sticky, Skully

Ranking Barnabas or simply Barnabas, is one of the many unsung heroes of Jamaican dub music, which is usually associated with names such as King Tubby, Lee Perry, Scientist, or Prince Jammy. Barnabas was born Stanley Bryan in Kingston in 1960, a few years later he became a regular at the legendary Channel One Studios. In the 1970s, Channel One was the hot spot in Jamaica's studio landscape, offering the best technology and producing reggae at an internationally competitive level. Stanley Bryan was an all-rounder. During the day, he sat at the mixing desk as an engineer and mixed, to name just one, the Eek-a-Mouse classic "Wah Do Dem." If the drummer dropped out during a recording, Barnabas stepped in. And at night, he took the microphone at the Channel One Sound System as Ranking Barnabas and toasted over riddims that he had frequently recorded himself in the studio. It was the heyday of Jamaican dub, and Barnabas was the often uncredited creator of countless dubs for maxi-singles and single B-sides. Although he contributed to countless Dub LPs, only The Cold Crusher was released under his name. Barnabas' only LP was released in a mini edition in the USA, was never repressed, and became a highly priced, sought-after rarity. The Italian label Jamdung, known for its high-quality reissues, has now unearthed The Cold Crusher after 50 years and reissued it with a new artwork that matches the original design. The album has been restored to high quality in Berlin by Dubplates & Mastering and features detailed liner notes by dub specialist Helmut Philipps (Dub – The Sound Of Surprise) and Lee Perry biographer David Katz (People Funny Boy, Solid Foundation). Two renowned reggae authors who have collaborated for the first time on this reissue. Photo on cover by legendary Beth Lesser. Stanley "Barnabas" Bryan did not live to see the release of his album. He passed away while working on the reissue on August 18, 2025, at the age of 65. Thus, the reissue of The Cold Crusher unexpectedly became his musical legacy. The edition is limited and will sell out quickly.

By the end of the 1970s Linval Thompson had cut out a successful dual career for himself as both singer and producer. Naturally he moved in the dub field as well, getting further use out of rhythms he used in his other works. Dub had begun strictly as an album format with limited pressing runs for scene insiders, but it had swiftly gained the interest of the rank and file reggae buffs. Negrea Love Dub', originally released in 1978, is a cornerstone in the reggae dub scene. Linval Thompson produced riddims which were laid at Channel One studio by The Revolutionaries – at the time a celebrated studio band led by drum and bass partners Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespear – and mixed at King Tubby's renown studio at 18 Dromilly Avenue in Kingston by Prince Jammy. The sound of the ten dubs featured here is hypnotic and its effects are euphoric to say the least.

Lloyd Parks, born on May 26, 1948, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a renowned reggae icon known for his soulful melodies and skillfully played bass lines. In the late 1960s, he performed with the Invincibles band, which included notable talents such as Ansell Collins, Sly Dunbar, and Ranchie McLean, before joining forces with Wentworth Vernal to form The Termites. He launched a successful solo career, releasing a series of self-produced singles, including the massive hit "Officially" in 1973; this single also provided the title for the legendary and and highly sought-after 1973 album, now reissued for the first time. Acknowledged as a talented studio bassist, Parks supported various reggae artists, including Justin Hinds on Duke Reid's Treasure Isle label. He was a member of Skin, Flesh and Bones, alongside Ansell Collins and Ranchie MacLean, contributing to Al Brown's hit "Here I Am Baby." When the group began recording for Channel One Studios, Parks renamed them The Revolutionaries and later joined Joe Gibbs' house band, The Professionals, showcasing his skills on hits like Althea & Donna's "Uptown Top Ranking." Throughout the 1970s, he collaborated with prominent artists such as Dennis Brown, The Abyssinians, The Itals, The Gladiators, Culture, and Prince Far I. In 1974, Parks founded the We The People Band, accompanying Dennis Brown on tours and regularly performing at festivals like Reggae Sunsplash and Reggae Sumfest.A long career studded with many important awards. "Officially" is his most cherished personal gem that, after too long, finally shines once more thanks to the discovery of the quarter-inch AMPEX tapes now owned by BMG (UK) and licensed to Jamdung Records.

"Kamikaze Dub" by Prince Jammy is undoubtedly one of the most beloved albums by dub music lovers and a record to have in every self-respecting record collection. An album for any time of the day, or season, that never bores and indeed has aged very well always amazes and stimulates. Re-released for JAMDUNG distributed exclusively by KUDOS in limited edition LP from the original master tapes is available again at an affordable price, but hurry! Jamaican Dub music first appeared in the mid-70s under the guidance of the creative master mind, King Tubby. By the late 70s, two of his top co-workers, Scientist and Prince Jammy were ready to branch out on their own, and they did. Jammy's record came out first and that's why "Kamikaze Dub" (1979) is often cited as the album that raised the bar for good. After its release, many Jamaican producers aspired to create the same swirling psychedelic minimal sound that Jammy presented on these near perfect tracks. The musicianship on here is outstanding as well, with other Dub stars taking part such as Sly and Robbie on drums and bass, Augustus Pablo on keyboards, 'Deadly' Headley Bennett and Bobby Ellis on horns, as well as many others. Stunning cover artwork, which, like the album title and songs, is inspired by 1970s Kung Fu Movie

The LP includes an insert/poster 60x30cm
Joe Yamanaka, born in Yokohama, was of mixed descent. His father was a US Army soldier who hailed from the Caribbean. He played Psychedelic Rock with the Flower Travellin' Band. He was also a philanthropist, travelling around the world to help people in countries where conditions aren't great. He himself was raised in harsh conditions as well, being born in a brothel and growing up in an orphanage. In post-war Japan, it was not easy for him to grow up looking racially different from his peers.
Joe Yamanaka joined The Wailers after Bob Marley had passed away and recorded with them 'Reggae Vibration'.
The very first track is also called 'Reggae Vibration' and can be seen as his introduction to the genre, being a Rock artist in his home country. You will still hear a strong Rock influence in his songs.
