The prodigiously talented Tim Engelhardt returns to Watergate for his third EP outing.
The young producer has been industrious throughout 2020; he released a new album ‘Idiosynkrasia’
on Stil Vor Talent, remixed Trentemøller and gifted Watergate another excellent EP, ‘Rooted’, among other
activities.
‘Prophecy’ EP continues his touch for crafting exquisite compositions that evoke a warm cocoon-like
atmosphere. The title track places his sound design skills at the fore, as tender melodic flourishes run
alongside a hummed vocal line, piano and swelling pads. ‘Polygon Particles’ is an intricate acoustic jam
centred around a chunky bassline, lilting synth and keys, which builds towards a feel-good finish. The
evocative ‘Connected in Silence’ rounds out the trio of tracks, driven by a crisp percussive core and wistful
widescreen soundscapes.

German techno and house composer Tim Engelhardt takes you on a deep dive into his peculiar-yet-relatable world of musical meanderings with ‘Idiosynkrasia’. True to the nature of idiosyncrasy, the album is more than the sum of its parts.

‘Idiosynkrasia’ is an ode to the inspiration Tim finds in all kinds of spaces and places: each cut woven from the same cloth of meticulously formed melodic structures and expertly crafted harmonies, gently amplified and unfettered by genre. From the opening track it’s clear that Tim has a profound awareness of rhythm and sound, his background as a pianist lending an easy fluidity to the album as it expands and contracts to tell a story which is gentle, humble and reflective.

Using granular processed recordings of piano, floating strings and other instruments to transmute emotions like love, nostalgia, vulnerability and longing, the album shifts through meditative, flow-state inducing tracks, morphing into cuts designed for dancing it all out.

Take it straight, mix it up or down: ‘Idiosynkrasia’ is cinematic in form and orchestral in structure, each track is marked with Tim’s unique sonic signature and careful attention to instrumentation.

Following his excellent ‘Rhy’ EP last October, Tim Engelhardt crafts a spellbinding return to Watergate Records.
A prodigal talent at just 22-year-old, Cologne’s Engelhardt stands at the vanguard of Germany’s new
breed of electronic music talent. Prolific and passionate in equal measures, the artist has kept busy during
lockdown sharing a series of tracks and edits he’s made on Bandcamp titled ‘The Notebook’. His refined
production approach gets better with each release, as exemplified by his latest offering, ‘Rooted’.
The title track introduces itself with a punchy kick drum pattern, before a brew of organic percussion and a
multi-layered key sequence give the track a memorable bite. ‘Brought to Bare’ combines golden
soundscapes, rolling beats and bubbling drum lines. ‘Future Matter’ illustrates his finely developed sound
design skills, as delicate strings rub shoulders with a building melody line and a sturdy low groove that hits
with chugging impact after the break.

Cologne’s Tim Engelhardt delivers his debut EP for Watergate.
We got our first taste of Tim Engelhardt’s prodigious talent when ‘Under Armour’ featured on
WhoMadeWho’s acclaimed Watergate 26 compilation earlier this year. The track was a masterstroke of
tension-filled chords and crisp drums that put him squarely on the radar of the WG faithful.
His first EP for the label ‘Rhy’, captures the essence of Watergate’s famous Waterfloor at dawn. The title
track is drenched in sheaths of warm melodies, as velvety vocal undertones and sweeping strings
welcome the morning light. ‘When The Sun Illuminated Her Eyes’, is the more driving accompaniment, as
textured synths and delicate keys shine a light on Engelhardt’s accomplished skill as a pianist.

Cologne's electronic music community keeps on giving, drawing on a dense plethora of fresh talent ready to shake up our little big grassroots industry. The latest ace up the city's sleeve must be Tim Engelhardt, part of a new breed of incredibly versatile young producers that get their cues from all sorts of genres and listening situations, combining profound musical knowledge with intuitive playfulness and multiple perspectives on sound. In Tim's case, we're dealing with a solid pianist background - which becomes rather obvious in the great care he takes over harmonies and an expanded melodic structure. However, that's just one side of the story, as the organic fluidity and atmospheric dexterity of his music most certainly hark back to an upbringing among the rolling hills and sprawling forests of Germany's Westerwald - one of the country's best known mountain ranges that has already inspired artists such as Dominik Eulberg or Gabriel Ananda.

Having released your first recordings at the tender age of 14 - as Tim did in 2012 - might put you in a "wunderkind" category - a flattering, but ultimately risky proposition, finding many a prodigy overwhelmed with the dubious honour. Not so much our hero, who chose to put his skills to work: in only four years, he grew his portfolio with plenty outings on labels such as Traum Schallplatten, WIR, Babiczstyle, Amuse Gueule, Ostwind Records, Popart Music, Playmusic Productions, Parquet Recordings, Manual Music and more - but his breakthrough release was hands-down the 2015 EP "Everything Is All You Have" on Steve Bug's iconic Poker Flat imprint, followed by "Enigmatism" on the same label. Something definitely clicked, as Poker Flat Recordings now proudly presents Tim's debut album "Moments Of Truth", the first full-length survey of his sonic savvy and a terrific listening experience to boot, which will find its connoisseurs in both the club and at home.

Len Faki returns to his own label Figure for a first release after the arrival of his giant FUSION LP.
Opener Zig Zag stays emblematic for Faki’s signature style, a lean and effective slice of modern day techno: muscular and well-balanced, this driving tool keeps it simple but dynamic and the energy always moving. Loop 10 is a collaboration track from long-time label mates Len Faki, Jeroen Search and UBX127. Combining the best of three worlds their distinct loopy elements are talking back and forth, gluing the track together - can you figure out who is who?
Another strong collab, Morgana is a piece of mesmerizing dub techno, created together with the new Figure addition Jancen (check out his recent EP Inner Labyrinth!). Spacious yet powerful, this one builds patiently before it comes crashing down with elegant force. Finishing off x48, Faki adds a version of his own opener, detuning the unnerving synths, fragmenting percussion and adding some atmospheric vocals.
