Hailing from Chicago, Beau Wanzer has carved out a singular voice in electronic music since debuting on the L.I.E.S. label in 2013. Wanzer’s music is not industrial, wave, electro, or techno - it’s a unique and twisted amalgamation of all that, and more. Crazy as it sounds, we at Suction Records have been sitting on this Beau Wanzer material since 2003. Back then Beau was working at Weekend Records And Soap — a Chicago hub for the city’s exploding electro scene — when Solvent and Lowfish rolled into town to perform at an Ersatz Audio label showcase. We met Beau at the shop and he gave us a 21-track CDR. We were instant fans, fast friends, and went on to the share the stage with him several times, well before he released his first records. That CDR contains these 6 tracks now released on 10”-vinyl as the “Do The Spider Shimmy” EP. This is suction049. Had that CDR not been held onto, and recently-unearthed by Solvent, this music would have disappeared into digital oblivion; Beau had long forgotten them and didn’t even have a copy of these CDR tracks. Beau Wanzer’s trademark sound — raw, minimal electronics and effected-beyond-recognition vocals — were already in full-effect circa 2003, but what makes this material different from his contemporary output is the dry, drumbox-funk influence of Detroit’s Ersatz Audio label (Le Car, ADULT.), which is also heard loud and clear across the EP.

A label designed to push the underground to a new level of electronic sound through experimental styles of musical consciousness. In our recent releases the idea is to never go with the same formula twice... This is why we emerge for our second release of 2014 with a 10" by long-time Nation affiliate Beau Wanzer. Four sedated tunes. Subtle and not so subtle frequencies drag aside gloomed out rhythms and beat less malfunctions. 'Power Outage' slithers along a marching waltz undercurrent of frizzled out electronics accompanied by broken spectral voices. 'Fabrics' is a malformed hollow arpeggio interlude that worms across the floor. 'Lotraf' is a demented rhythm track with an odd sense of urgency, underneath blankets of weird home movies. 'Thurston Moog' is a contorted synth jam, built upon various recordings and manipulating them into a mesh of guttural tones.

An EP of GOLDEN BUG on LDDLM has been a long-time coming. Paths crosses, encounters, similitudes. But it took all of us time to agree on how Golden Bug should fit into our mortal ethics of fragmentation: we don't want to sound like anybody else, each track on the EP should all sound different. The French but Barcelona based producer played our game, anticipating his future and very diverse album with a spook yet catchy 12". WILD BOYS was an instant ear-catcher, some proto-funk with a very strong vocal by YAN WAGNER that made it sound like DURAN DURAN on speedball. It was hard to take it to another level but LORD TUSK, one of our favourite producers of the emerging "no genre" (electro-funk????) London scene beefs it up, Kraftwerk way. It's moody as we all are. IK VOEL JE shows the more experimental spaced out side of Golden Bug, we'd call it space rock If we had to. Do not neglect L"HORLOGE, it's slow, dark, menacing but it's a real time bomb if tuned correctly.

The number of bad luck is the number of good luck in our world. Antoine Harispuru aka Golden Bug is back on LDDLM with what has been a constant night hit for Ivan Smagghe since he magically received it. We are very happy to share it with you. PROGRESS FEAT. DIEGO HOLDEZ kind of defies categorisation, and blows the walls of the classic slow downed clocks of Golden Bug. We'd describe it as vocal funk? You may describe it the way you want. On remix duty, Miami come Berlin bad boy DANNY DAZE a rest from the big room for a pounding Omnidisc version that will slowly burns through any leather jacket, very corrosive stuff. PHYSICAL DISCO is classic Golden Bug, a demented industrial pinball machine of some kind. Whilst SUPERNOVA is that exact machine played by a retro-futurist vocoder robot. Think Aux 88 played at 33rpm and you'll be as close as you can.

Family is a sometimes great, if big, notion. Hard to sustain, most often dysfunctional. At LDDLM, we do not put pressure on anyone, and certainly not ourselves. But bounds are sometimes tightened, some artists we would never consider ours, but most certainly as closed friends. This is the 3rd EP (a house record) by Antoine Harispuru aka GOLDEN BUG but the first, excitement renewed, in company of IN FIELDS. They push the boundaries of GB’s trademark ghost funk on this EP: BONES features once again Diego Hdez for a smacked out yet epic pop number (we would not call it shoegaze). CRACKS dissolves its ethnic funk into pure psychedelia, SHAKES dubbing itself out into oblivion. All in all, 3 strong bongs. Finally FANTASTIC TWINS (Hippie Dance/Optimo/Microdosing) builds her own wall of sound, expanding BONES into a mind bending prison. Turn on, tune in, never drop out.

After five years spent largely confined to the United States, Ron Trent is set to return to global touring in 2025. To mark the occasion, he’s partnered with Rush Hour to release Lift Off, a brand-new album of music recorded at different points over the last decade.

Arriving almost 35 years since he wowed the world with his game-changing debut, the Afterlife EP, Lift Off was inspired by Trent’s desire to ‘let the imagination speak for itself’ while exploring the diverse influences that have shaped his unique musical perspective. A departure from his previous album, 2022’s downtempo masterpiece as Warm, What Do The Stars Say To You, the 10-track set features a mixture of epic instrumentals, inspired collaborations and vocal cuts whose music was written with certain singers in mind.

While it features music that ripples with the experienced producer’s familiar aural trademarks – rich rhythms, warm chords, impeccable instrumentation, inspired arrangements, and lashings of heady hand percussion – it also consciously explores a variety of sounds and tempos, in the process blurring the lines between dance music’s past, present and future. It’s a vision, in his words, of what dance music can become.

For proof, check the five impeccable cuts on part one. There’s the tactile, Wally Badarou-inspired wonder ‘Hot Ice’, the mind-soothing chords, lilting synth-strings and samba-soaked percussion of ‘Woman of Color’, the warming deep house jazziness of ‘Jazz Funk’ and the restless, far-sighted brilliance of ‘Sexstrology’, where relaxed electric piano solos dance atop an infectious, locked-in dancefloor groove.

Best of all though is Leroy Burgess collaboration ‘Let Me See You Shining’ – an inspired musical meeting of minds that cannily fuses Trent’s signature deep house sound with the soulful, vocal-driven brilliance of the New Yorker’s iconic boogie-era work. Even by the two artists’ dizzyingly high standards, it’s a very special song.

Black Loops is an endlessly creative producer who has brought constant invention to house music since his first release over a decade ago. His widescreen sounds take their cues from funk, soul and disco and are underpinned by a love of 90s grooves. They appeal to DJs and dancers alike which explains his constant demand for DJ sets around the world as well as his music being played and supported by the biggest names in the scene. After many years of vital 12"s and remixes, he now draws on everything he has learned and raises his levels with a fully realised debut full length. "This album represents a step forward, an opportunity to craft something more musical and intricate, both in terms of arrangement and melody," says the artist, who draws on his roots as a drummer and lays down most of the kit and percussion parts himself. The majority of the album tracks were played live to give them an organic, improvised and personalised touch, with resulting jams reworked and reshaped where necessary over the last year. Because of that fluidity, Always Moving works in many settings. The mix of hooky vocals and compelling drums ground the record with a human feel, as do the collaborations with the guest musicians Black Loops has long admired. The blissed-out broken beats of CDMX kick things off in soulful style, there's a deeper funk to Mamao (a tribute to the hugely influential Azymuth drummer Ivan Conti) and Detroit Love Letter featuring Byron The Aquarius is a warm and gooey deep house cut with majestic chords gelling the mix together. Marlena Dae is an emerging and hugely talented singer based in Berlin and features on tracks including the Metro Area-style disco bounce of Electrical and LSD as well as the weighty deep house of Experience. She also adds her stylish and seductive tones to Pleasure Ride on which Harvey Sutherland features with some cosmic synth work. Always Moving is an artistic triumph that blends a personal and musical approach to production with lived-in grooves that warm the body and soul.
The rest of this most intimate and heartfelt record features the boogie-tinged retro-future synth glow of Synesthesia, dusty drums and twinkling late-night keys of Time Space Matter and leggy downbeat lushness of Intercourse. The lo-fi and left-field Dilla-esque drums of Slow Jamz and loved-up strings and warm, bass guitar groove of Good Bye Berlin close down the record in a tender fashion.
