Soundway Records delivers an exciting new compilation, diving ever deeper into South-East Asia. Ayo Ke Disco celebrates the musical identities emerging during the 1970s and 80s from the newly independent countries nestled around the South China Sea.

This time, Soundway’s long-time general manager Alice Whittington (aka DJ Norsicaa) steps into the limelight, embracing her Malaysian heritage and selecting music from her heavy collection of Asian records. Aside from steering the label, she is often found on international stages and radio stations playing an eclectic array of music.

For Ayo Ke Disco (meaning ‘Let’s go to the disco’ in Indonesian), 10 rare tracks of disco-funk, psychedelic funk, synth, city pop, and Hindustani-Arabic rhythms were painstakingly licensed from local labels – forming a snapshot of the vibrant discotheques and live scenes across Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

The vinyl release is also accompanied by the Ayo Ke Disco zine from Norsicaa, with extensive research on the history of music in South-East Asia, archival photos and exclusive interviews with some of the region’s most respected collectors.

An album beloved by fans since its release in March 2004, Ultravisitor is one of the most popular records in Squarepusher's entire discography. A unique blend of studio and live recordings, it's an excellent showcase for the diversity of his music: from the frenetic title track to the funky jazz of "Iambic 9 Poetry" to the sunlit bliss of "Tommib Help Buss" and beyond.

For the 20th anniversary, Warp is proud to present this expanded deluxe version, a limited edition one-time pressing, carefully remastered from the original tapes by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering and overseen by Tom Jenkinson. Never entirely happy with the sound of the original release, Tom has relished the opportunity to revisit the tapes, bringing out fresh dynamics and details in the tracks.

Bonus album Venus No.17 Maximised is compiled from tracks originally released as part of the Ultravisitor promo EP, released 26 January 2004; the Square Window 3" CD, a free bonus disc given out with WarpMart pre-orders of the Ultravisitor album; and the Venus No.17 EP. The accompanying booklet contains rare photos, flyers, and recording documentation.

It's not just blood, sweat and tears either, FJAAK's advanced technical knowhow and love of synthesizers and drum machines helps them formulate a sound that's conscious of dance music history, but focused on a brighter, more equitable future. Their second single 'And You Feel' is an emotional rollercoaster combining UK breakbeat with a dubstep-influenced bassline wobler and alluring vocals, emulating the moment the mind becomes a tranquil void through the crescendo of adrenaline like a strain of physical exertion. This is reflected on their new music video which shows an unexpected "rage room" scene. As for the rest of the album, fittingly, the album opens with 'Unity', a brief cry from FJAAK that urges listeners to overcome their prejudices and focus on the music itself. Then we're thrown right into 'And You Feel', a searing blend of nostalgic pads, snatched diva vocals and factory-strength breaks. A conscious balancing act between tranquility and rushing adrenaline, it's one of the album's most unashamedly emotional moments. And by the time we reach 'Redemption', dynamism takes hold completely: ear-pummeling drums feed the soundsystem, and squelchy, acidic TB-303s twist into peak time. For FJAAK, it's a track that confronts the harsh reality of a music industry that's not always kind to artists, highlighting the relentless struggles in a furious rush of pneumatic kicks and a merciless synth throb. The mood shifts into intricate dark territory when they team up with Modeselektor on 'Horsepower', a track that captures the giddiness of their studio sessions. A rush of stepped breaks, lysergic pads and untamed glitches, it's a trip towards ecstasy that's a testament to the four producers' mastery over their craft. And on the energetic 'Mechanic Love', FJAAK examine the relationship between humans and technology wondering what impact an augmented reality might have on intimacy and companionship. Using wailing, timestretched voices and pounding kicks, they blur the boundaries between the organic and the mechanical, whisking their sonics into a passionate fervor. Elsewhere, they pause for breath on the blissed-out, aquatic 'Glove Box', and enlist Munich's Skee Mask on the electro-tinged 'Black Ice', bringing in FJAAK's former member J.Manuel to slow down gritty breaks into a contemplative whirl on 'Wind Mill Hill'. 'FJAAK THE SYSTEM' is a rich, diverse statement from a duo who aren't willing to rest on their laurels. Caribbean-Belgian composer, producer and musician Nala Sinephro announces her debut album Space 1.8 with lead track “Space 3”. Space 1.8 will be released on 3rd September via Warp Records.

The instrumental “Space 3” is a short clip from a 3 hour improvised session with drummer Eddie Hick (Sons of Kemet) and producer/multi-instrumentalist Dwayne Kilvington on synths bass (Wonky Logic, Steam Down) culminating in a synth driven, particle-splitting, rapture. Speaking about the track, Sinephro explains: “We recorded it in the start of spring, it was a magical day. The day after recording I collaged the drums, added fifteen synths, produced and mixed it at home and it was all done.”

Sinephro’s music fuses meditative sounds, jazz sensibilities, folk and field recordings. Her musical practice is rooted in the study of frequency and geometry and guided by the premise that sound moves matter. Her debut album Space 1.8 takes shape as a metaphysical structure, where each curative space is a womb-like cocoon created by Sinephro in service of relief and affirmative, ecstatic freedom. Space 1.8 was composed, produced, performed, engineered, recorded, mixed by Sinephro at age 22. On the album, she plays modular synths and pedal harp alongside her friends James Mollison, Shirley Tetteh, Nubya Garcia, Eddie Hick, Dwayne Kilvington, Jake Long, Lyle Barton, Rudi Creswick and more.

Following electrifying live performances across the London scene, word of Nala Sinephro’s playing quickly spread throughout the UK jazz scene, consequently landing her performances as part of the celebrated jazz night Steam Down, alongside playing with and supporting the likes of Demae, Eun, Coby Sey, Rosie Turton, Robert Ames, London Contemporary Orchestra, Touching Bass, Spitfire Audio, Nadeem Din-Gabisi. She was touted as one of The Guardian’s artists to watch in 2020, has garnered support from the likes of Gilles Peterson; and is a resident DJ on NTS sharing monthly selections of celestial sounds. In 2021, she joined the innovative Warp Records roster where she continues to weave her unique sound world.

'Midnight In Tokyo Vol.3' brings together forgotten soul, disco, and new wave gems from Yoko Hatanaka, Atsuo Fujimoto, and more.

midnight in tokyo is a compilation series that aims to be the perfect companion to nights in tokyo, collecting tracks by japanese artists that sound best at night. while vol.2 focused more on ’80s jazz fusion, the latest installment, vol.3, picks up where vol.1 left off, bringing together forgotten soul, disco, and new wave gems.
the compilation opens with japanese rare groove classic “more sexy,” a provocative song by “the queen of sexy songs,” yoko hatanaka.
“kimi no yume,” from the album yume no yonbai by the wandering poet masumi hara, is one of the best balearic acid folk song to come out of japan.
“silhouette call” is an electric bossa nova track—in the vein of antena—taken from a rare album called octopussy by yuki nakayamate, a singer songwriter who also worked as a backing vocalist for motoharu sano.
“theme of high school student” is a dubby cut featured on the soundtrack to the japanese ’80s film kougen ni ressha ga hashitta, written by atsuo fujimoto of colored music—one of the key artists in the recent wave of global interest in japanese music.
“get to paradise” is a stone cold funk jam by mari kaneko, who was known as the janis joplin of shimokitazawa in her heyday, and is now known as the mother of the drummer and the bassist of popular rock band rize.
following that is one of japan’s greatest new wave disco track, “hannya,” taken from tomoko aran’s popular third album fuyu-kukan—produced by masatoshi nishimura who was part of the friends of earth project with haruomi hosono.
masako miyazaki—whose rendition of seawind’s “he loves you” is a fan favorite—puts her own spin on the earth, wind & fire classic, “fantasy,” singing in her accent-heavy english which gives the song an undeniable character.
“watashi no koukoku” is a certified disco boogie classic by popular singer junko sakurada.
the brazilian-esque jazz fusion, “sunshine bright on me” is by a fusion group called kangaroo, who were often billed as “the japanese shakatak.”
“stranger’s night” is a synth-pop number by pop idol maiko okamoto, which bears a suspicious resemblance to rah band’s “the shadow of your love.”
electro-pop disco “singing lady”—off the sole album released by the one-off project the fad—sounds like something giorgio moroder could’ve cooked up.
“magic eyes” is a disco anthem recorded by songwriter tetsuji hayashi’s disco project, the eastern gang.
following that is japanese soul gem “crazy baby,” found on a rare 7 inch entitled minato no soul by rinda yamamoto—also composed and arranged by tetsuji hayashi.
and last but not least, closing out this collection of 14 japanese rare groove goodies is “i’m in love”, a bittersweet mellow dance number by tomoko aran.

With her new “Let Me Be Your Fantasy” remix package, Anané continues to solidify her position as one of the most talented and charismatic recording artists in the world today. It’s never easy to take on a classic disco tune, which in this case is a song originally released in 1978 by The Love Symphony Orchestra. Endlessness is a deep dive into the cycle of existence. The 45-minute album delicately spans 10 tracks with a continuous arpeggio playing throughout, creating an expansive, mesmerising celebration of life cycles and rebirth. Following Sinephro’s critically acclaimed 2021 debut album Space 1.8, Endlessness further elevates her as a transcendent and multi-dimensional composer, beautifully morphing jazz, orchestral, and electronic music.

The album was composed, produced, arranged, and engineered by Sinephro. Performing on the album are Sheila Maurice-Grey, Morgan Simpson, James Mollison, Lyle Barton, Nubya Garcia, Natcyet Wakili, and Dwayne Kilvington, joined by Orchestrate’s 21 string players.

Across two mammoth, critically acclaimed compilations Berlin-based Musician and DJ Curses' Next Wave Acid Punx series has shone a blacklight onto the darker side of club music. Featuring tracks from the 1970s right up to the present day made by both musical legends and up and coming talents alike, Curses has expertly threaded the needle between Experimental Pop, Post Punk, EBM, Electro, Techno and more to produce a stunning alternative history of clubland.
But, as every good digger knows, there's always more gems to uncover and so once again Curses has crowbarred open the electronic music's vaults to bring us four more long forgotten tracks, each one "Revamped" for maximum Dancefloor effect with Curses himself providing 2 edits alongside precision tooled reworks from Melbourne based Stockholm Syndrome and NYC's Andi.
First up from Curses is his Revamp of Deborah Sasson's (Carmen) Danger In Her Eyes, a curio from the wildly inventive mid late 80s that saw the American opera singer collaborate with German producers MCL (MicroChipLeague). A European chart topper on its original release, it's long since languished in obscurity but in Curses' hands is now ready to once again add more than a touch of melodrama to dancefloors.
For his second edit, Curses reworks J.W.B. Hits The Beat's House Fatale, having previously taken a razor to their Body On Body track on Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX. Originally released in 1988, House Fatale is a classic example of just how fast electronic music was evolving back then, bringing together elementsof Electro, Freestyle, House and more amongst a riot of samples, all elements Curses retains whilst nudging the tempo and giving the track a harder edge.
Sticking with the same Westside label that gave us House Fatale, Stockholm Syndrome turns his attention to Voyou's Houseman. Or, as it happens, the 1988 edit by LA's Razormaid that first honed its edges for club play and merged the title track with its b-side. The resulting edit rejuvenates this classic slice of late Cold War club music, its pounding beat, portentous strings and the repeated overdriven vocal refrain of Germany Calling perfect for basement clubs today, in Berlin and beyond.
Finally to complete the EP we have sample-heavy 1988 cut Not Leaving Without Jerry by Belgian duo Marc Borgions & Jo Lijnen aka Philadelphia Five. Originally produced by Luc Van Acker, (better known for his work with the likes of Front 242, Ministry and Revolting Cocks), the track has been handed over to NYC producer Andi, who ups the tempo and hones in on the rhythm section, putting the focus on the staccato drums and throbbing bass line the focal point now and creating a perfect soundtrack for sweat lashed bodies.
Together these four tracks revisit a moment in clubland when the rules were still being written, as Curses explains. "This was a pivotal moment where all genres were still evolving, figuring out what sounds would eventually become staple elements of one another which gave it all this naive, innocent and punk feel. You've got Trance arpeggios, those heavy snares of early EBM, chopped vocals in the style of Chicago and NY formative House music all mixed with Electrofunk and percussive Latin freestyle grooves. A time when we were dancing without boundaries, something very much in the spirit of Next Wave Acid Punx."
