The compilation begins its rollout with two powerful singles that set the tone for what’s to come. Sama Abdulhadi’s rise as one of the first DJs to emerge internationally from Palestine can be traced back to Beirut, where she immersed herself in the burgeoning local techno scene. Her 2018 Boiler Room in Palestine set a new bar for high octane DJ sets. On this mix Sama’s techno collaboration with musician-performer Walaa Sbait on lead track ‘Well Fee’ stands out with its Arabic love-lament vocal. Acid Arab's 'Laba Staifia (Ammar 808 Remix)' rounds off the comp - another notable delivery, from the French-Algerian electronic collective. In the post-minimal years, and after the deep house revival, dark techno and electro became the most fertile ground for new producers. Hamburg-born Helena Hauff was one of those who brought through such sounds and she has since become a global tastemaker who has perfected the art of dark and hard-hitting soundscapes. The project succeeds the duo’s 2018 joint contribution to the historic mix series – picked as the final FABRICLIVE release to round off the 200-strong mixed comp series. Born and raised in Ecuador Nicola Cruz has found his own unique way to tap into Latin America’s illustrious musical past to create something utterly contemporary. Cruz’s ‘fabric presents’ shows awareness of the power of ancestral cosmology over art and music whilst driving fiercely towards the strange, experimental, and unexpected of underground electronica. From here he curates the first of the fabric mixes with strong roots in South America. Opening on the powerfully stabbing ‘Everything Falls Into Place’ from MMM (Errorsmith & Fiedel) the mix sweeps through bass, breaks, techno, analogue-glitch, all the way to the folky portuguese lyrics of ‘Mensagem Enviada’ from Rico Jorge. On 6th September fabric announce the launch of a brand new label, fabric Originals. The imprint aims to release special projects from the artists that form the present and future of boundary pushing club music globally in single, EP, album and compilation form. To launch the label a new split 12” from hi-NRG pioneers Eris Drew & Octo Octa is unveiled. Eris Drew draws on elements of 90s big beat with a propulsive twist, adding chest-rattling bass notes to anchor the track’s eyes-down 4/4 rhythm. Created in reaction to this dancefloor wonder, Octo Octa’s ‘Stars & Water’ takes on a much more commanding tone finding cues from a classic house sound and employing deft polyrhythms to build progressive energy. A limited amount of each 12” will be available as a deluxe edition with an additional die-cut logo slipcase outer. Radio Slave teams up with Kameelah Waheed for ‘All Rize’ It’s Matt Edwards’ first single on his Rekids label this year, and comes with an additional Revolution Mix. Radio Slave returns to his seminal Rekids imprint with ‘All Rize’, his first single for the label in 2025, landing in May and featuring a vocal from Kameelah Waheed. The track, which continues Matt Edwards’ tendency to favour longer runtimes, builds the pressure through its excellently looping and evolving elements. Waheed, a returning featured artist on Rekids with credits on tracks for Terry Farley and Wade Teo, as well as Hilit Kolet, provides an anchor for the journey, leading the dancefloor through a series of instructions with her inimitable voice. These are the words of legendary Nigerian musician and activist Fela Kuti, words that remain as true as ever over two decades since his untimely death. A pioneer of the Nigerian revolution, his fight against police oppression remains an ongoing conversation in the country. Now, Defected pays tribute to the vital work of Fela with a special 12” release, as Armonica and MoBlack revisit Fela Kuti’s ‘International Thief Thief (I T. T.)’ as the fight against systemic corruption continues to be a pressing issue in Nigeria. The A-Side features Armonica & MoBlack’s flawlessly executed and ever respectful remix of the record where Fela called out and directly attacked former Nigerian president General Obasanjo and Moshood Abjola, the CEO of Nigeria’s biggest national telecommunications conglomerate I.T.T and Decca Records. Their homage to Fela brings a powerful and culturally relevant piece of music to the forefront of dance culture in 2020.

On the reverse side is ‘Chagu’, where a powerful and evocative spoken word narration is provided by South Sudanese-Canadian artist, actor, former child soldier and political activist Emmanuel Jal. A collaboration between Emmanuel, MoBlack and Henrik Schwarz, both producers provide their own version of ‘Chagu’, with MoBlack opting for a classic afro-house beat and hypnotic percussion, while Henrik’s signature crisp, harmonious composition makes for a guaranteed dancefloor weapon. Both visionary producers, Henrik and MoBlack’s versions are equally impactful, complementing the immediacy of Emmanuel’s lyrics.

With South Londons’ indomitable Medlar having just released his album Islands and winning serious support so far, it’s time to drop a killer remix package on you! UK acid-mavericks Paranoid London get dark n twisted on Luv Interlude turning in a serious club work-out which will hook you in with it’s sonic-trickery and muscular house groove. Crazy P’s James Baron aka Ron Basejam sculpts Dot The T’s into a funked up electro jam with glitchy bit-crushed fills and lush, David Axelrod-esque outro chords laying the bedrock for Deevoenay’s brilliant vocals. A proper fusion of flavours on this one make for a fresh and forward-looking track for both club and home listening. Flipping over we have Josh Ludlow of Make A Dance stepping up and delivering a tripped out, slo-mo Balearic remix of Atlantean ft. Alfa Sackey which goes heavy on the percussion and dubby flourishes.
