Still Music Chicago is thrilled to announce the reissue of Jiraffe's "Out'A The Box," a legendary dance record from New York City. Originally released in 1988 on Goldqwest Records, this track emerged from the collaboration between Richie Weeks and Al Smith. This limited 12" release includes a full sleeve with a never-before-seen picture of Richie Weeks with Vaughan Mason at Vaughan home studio and a story of "Out'A The Box". Richie Weeks, known for his work with The Jammers and Weeks & Co, founded Goldqwest Records after Salsoul Records closed. Inspired by his friend Vaughan Mason, Richie ventured into house music production, recording demos that caught the attention of Reynald "Crazy Frenchman" Deschamps of M.T.I Exports. A generous supporter funded Goldqwest's third release, leading to Richie and Al Smith creating "Out'A The Box" at Al's home studio in Philadelphia. The track blended post-disco, dance, latin, and proto-house elements, achieving cult status among DJs worldwide. More

After some big collaborative tunes with In Flagranti that made big waves a while back, vocalist Natalie Smash is back and in fine form. This new acid-tinged EP for Chicago's Still Music is killer, with San Francisco's very own Loose Control Band (aka DJ Spun and Jonah Sharp in tow. 'New Start' comes in three different but equally vital versions with edgy acid and old school house vibes to spare. Stillmusic's debut the "sugar ep" by Patchwork was already flying from our shelves and it's not gonna be any different with this future collectible Rick Wilhite’s SOUL EDGE EP 2. Back in 1996, the part 1 was released on Kenny Dixon Jr’s KDJ imprint. Rick is a legendary Detroit producer that is famous for his belonging in The 3 Chairs collective. (Kenny Dixon Jr, Theo Parrish, Marcellus Pitman & himself). This EP starts with CITY BAR REOPEN "LIVE" DANCING featuring Detroit vocalist Billy Beemer who praises the gods of dance with his freeflowing jazz vocal stylings. MAGIC WATER "SAINT JEAN REMIX" is a remix by Detroit’s most upcoming producer DELANO SMITH (Mixmode Recordings). At the opposite of the original, this mix brings on a fantastic percussion based house stormer that reminds us of Fela’s West African productions. MAGIC WATER is a retro-futuristic approach to the sounds that made Detroit so famous and in which Rick Wilhite has been a major player since the early nineties. Roland kicks and synths, distortion and analog layers, this is the real sound of the Detroit house. L.F.T (Love, Fist, Tears), aka Johannes Haas, returns to Osàre! Editions for another scorching release. As ever, the German producer’s sonic palette is immediately recognisable as he manoeuvres through 1980s- inspired wave and raw, rugged electro. Equal parts dancefloor elixir and cerebral wonderment, Minecrawler showcases Haas’ flair for freewheeling, chemical artistry, and experimentation.

Divided into heavy, vocal numbers on one side and potent, club-orientated material on the other, the EP is unified overall by the frigid crackle of drum machines, primal synths, and goth aesthetics. ‘Halbverdient’ opens up – made in collaboration with fellow cold wave renegade Konstantin Unwohl, the song captures the duo’s shared love for all things dark and driving.

Structured around pummelling basslines, the titular track follows, an electro breed of The Hague’s West Coast variety, and a perfect example of L.F.T’s signature sound. This is vampire music at its finest – fanged, winged, and seductively menacing. Despite its impromptu origins, arising out of a spontaneous jam session, ‘Auf Meiner Haut’ is slick and steady. Cracking some beers with musicians Bella and Viva, L.F.T invited the duo to improvise lyrics, resulting in their detached, icily amorous exchange. Apocalyptic groover ‘Broken 101’ is next up, with ‘Fear and Machines’ preceding, a sparking stomper burning with cool, electric heat. Finally, don’t miss the digital bonus – ‘Planetary Intellect’ broods with penetrating, glacial energy that sends shivers down the spine. More

For our release number 073 we go hard and strong with the mysterious combo El Joven Prisionero. They come back home, ten releases after their Sesiones Mercurio EP. The formula is again direct to the floor with no roundabouts, strong percussive elements and direct sonic aggresion provided at a high tempo rate.

Tactel opens fire with an enourmous bass drum spiced with stereo panned high frequencies, shuffled hats add tenstion to the equation while micro drones and processed textures do the rest. A perfect shot to demolish some club roofs around the globe.

Second bullet is Kinki, hypnosis is the key here, starting with the whole groove from bar one, then growing in intensity with different sound layers all served in a continuous and progressive arrangement. This one is for the mind and the body.

Anti Tu combines scifi vibes with heavy duty drums in an elastic tool for skilled mixers out therem setting the pace to the next exercise, La Raya where asymmetric Fm sequences bring the funk, again over a superb drum programming workout.

Digital bonus is Sin el Groove, drastically reducing the BPM rate, using Fm synths again for the sequences, closing this aerobic session in an exhausted mood.

This release is going to be a limited one with 200 numbered copies pressed on red vinyl before another standard edition with different artwork and classic black wax. More

The much anticipated album by Another Taste released on Space Grapes — an eclectic ooze of boogie, funk, and obscure disco. Comes in a Tip-on sleeve.

Another Taste's debut brings together a blend of boogie, 70’s funk and obscure disco - birthed from unearthing forgotten sounds and reinventing them for the modern era. A recipe they’ve been cooking up successfully over the last years in the studio, through their label Space Grapes and on tour through some of Europe’s finest stages.

Another Taste is a Rotterdam-born concept band formed by a group of longtime friends, consisting of Bobby van Putten (keys), Bob Roche (bass), Barend Lippens (keys) and Teun van Zoggel (drums).

Inspired by the obscurity and the do-it-yourself approach of private press culture of the late 1970s and 80s, their first releases were mostly a product of late night sessions between the four of them at the studio of their co-producer Danilo Plessow (MCDE), leading to the founding of Space Grapes Records.

The band’s first songs were released under various pseudonyms such as Mad Honey, GALXTC or Jambonne and quickly gathered them a loyal following and support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Kenny Dope and many more.

Another Taste ripples their sound beyond the studio and onto the stage. In their live performances they introduce additional band members in Sarina Voorn (Vox), Diogo Carvalho (percussion) and Florian Verhagen (guitar). A core group with whom they’ve played at prestigious festivals such as Worldwide or Kappa Futur and legendary venues such as Jazz Cafe London, New Morning Paris, and Tresor Berlin.

The March-scheduled album release is the latest iteration of the band’s evolution. From the A-side opener "Turn Up" to the B-side closer "Perfect Night," the album is a testament to Another Taste’s ceaseless creative exploration. Each of the 6 songs on the album presents a new invitation to experience their genre-defying sound and bring people together in delight! More

The seductive sounds of Portugal swing to Dark Entries on Rock Rendez Vous: Música Moderna Portuguesa 1985-1986, a compilation of vintage Iberian synth, wave, and postpunk gems. The legendary club Rock Rendez Vous (RRV) opened its doors in Lisbon in 1980, heralding a new era in the Portuguese underground. Although touring acts like Killing Joke, Danse Society, or Echo & the Bunnymen graced its stage, RRV more vitally served as ground zero for a new generation of Portuguese bands, one simultaneously in touch with broader international musical movements while being invested in establishing a national sonic identity. Rock Rendez Vous culls 9 tracks of prime Portuguese indie tunes from the Música Moderna Portuguesa compilations released in 1985 and 1986, documenting the heyday of this movement. Jangly and brooding postpunk gems like “Levante” from Jovem Guarda, Projecto Azul’s “New Sides,” and Essa Entente’s “Festa Final” are well-represented here. Meanwhile, quirky Balearic-laced synthpop gems like D. W. Art’s “Mate” or Zona Proibida’s “Musak” add a subtly regional flare. Rock Rendez Vous: Música Moderna Portuguesa comes housed in a sleeve designed by Eloise Leigh featuring a photo of the club RRV, and also includes a double-sided insert with lyrics, photos, and liner notes.
