Release Info:
Dial D for Digitalism. The return of Hamburg’s most prolific and bewitching production duo is a two-sided one. Back To Haus is their second outing for Running Back after Reality 2 in 2020. And on top of that, it does what it says on the tin. Based on the roots of house, which was the sound that Ismail Tuefekci and Jens Moelle started their DJ careers with, their modern day interpretation of it is far from nostalgic, boring or conservative.

Take the title track for instance. Now a track-id favorite, it was meant to be a sound test. It’s recipe is as simple as it is infectious. Mix some Roland drum machines with a few piano chords and expertly arrange the rest with a marathon intro and a corresponding break down. Voilá! Patience might be bitter, but its fruits are sweet.

Chicagostrasse is not only an existing street in the warehouse district of Hamburg’s harbor, but also a nod to all-time heroes Johnny D and Nicky P of Henry Street fame and their samplers-and-beats approach. Heavy hypno house.

4TH Floor sees the duo sampling themselves (again) for a fast paced and open-airy party jam the references one of their favorite New York labels, when they met at Hamburg’s late house music record store institution Underground Solution beginning of this millennium. Happiness is just a state of mind.

Closing it all off, but not winding it down is Warehaus and its convoying beat tool Empty Warehaus. Like Todd Terry visiting a Summer of Love rave in the UK. Descriptive and positively destructive. All in all, a worthy double, a DJ’s delight and a dancer’s delight.

The music of Digitalism is usually in equal parts fun and fanciful, earnest and ecstatic. „Reality 2“ - their debut EP on Running Back - is no exception to the rule. Hailing from Hamburg, the place where Germany’s allegedly first and definitely seminal house club Front was based, their sound might not be a direct descendant of that heritage. At second glance though, it’s not hard to imagine that any of these 5 tracks, if not all of them, would be in heavy rotation, given that club would still be open today. If your underage, any arcade hall would do, too. Take „Trans Global Ltd“ for instance. Like an Italo disco steamroller, it’s as play- as it is powerful. „Reality 2“ might be the pick of the litter. A neuromantic dance floor gets swiped with a euphoric melancholy that could be the tears of joy that symbolize a bygone era or a better tomorrow. Enough with the poetry. A quintet of tracks that are as athletic, graceful and witty as possible. Or to quote Robert Palmer: simply irresistible.

There have even been bootlegs made from the audio, but the version we release on Vinyl was the one that lit up dancefloors from I Love Techno in Belgium to Genban in Tokyo, Output in New York and Razzmatazz in Barcelona. It's been a staple in the Digitalism DJ set for almost a year and a unshared gem until now. On the dawn of a digital only release featuring a Vocal version with remixes from RAC, Riton and Paul Woolford, we proudly present a very limited (250 copies) special edition etched vinyl of the original instrumental version. WRWTFWW Records is proud to present the first official worldwide reissue of the debut album from fabled Japanese folk singer-songwriter/actress/writer Hako Yamasaki, Tobimasu. The limited edition 180g vinyl LP comes in a heavy sleeve with the original artwork, and the digipack CD has one bonus track. Tobimasu is also available in digital formats.

Originally released in 1975 on legendary independent label Elec Records, Tobimasu is a masterpiece of melancholy carried by one of the most beautiful, moving, melodic, and haunting voices in the history of Japanese music. An extraordinary singer and guitar player, Hako Yamasaki wrote the album at only 18 years old, showing incredible emotional maturity and music making skills, and creating, out of nowhere, a downright classic of folk music, brilliantly arranged and sequenced.

Hako Yamasaki’s folk is bluesy, psychedelic, soft, and poetic, perfectly fitting the themes of nostalgia, love, and nature she covers with heartbreaking intensity. Her songs capture sorrow ravishingly, offering glimpses of empowering hope and uplifting wisdom. A unique voice, a unique approach, and nothing less than magnificent music.

Hako Yamasaki, a pioneer in both the creative boom and the rise of feminism in 1970s Japan, went on to release over thirty albums, building an impressive discography and a fascinating career filled with ups and downs. Her work, inimitable and timeless, deserves the utmost recognition and should be celebrated. Again and again and again.

Tobimasu is released in conjunction with Hako Yamasaki’s beautiful follow-up Tsunawatari, also available on WRWTFWW Records.

Breakbot AKA Thibaut Berland - Ed Banger's newest and brightest star announces his debut album 'By Your Side''.
Having delighted dancefloors around the world with his infectious discoid funk of 'Baby I'm Yours' and 'Fantasy', and killer re-rubs for Justice and Metronomy amongst others, 'One Out Of Two' is the first single to be taken from this multi-instrumentalist's highly anticipated debut album 'By Your Side'. Crammed with soulful, robo-disco and emotive ballads, 'By Your Side' conjures up the ghosts of the Doobie Brothers, Todd Rundgren and Hall and Oates, as well as the nostalgic TV themes to 'Silver Spoons' or 'Punky Brewster'.
Berland explains : "My elder brothers had a huge influence on me when was I a kid. David the oldest introduced me to soul, funk and pop, making me tapes of michael jackson, prince, stevie wonder, madonna, phil collins and many other things. I remember spending lots of time in his bedroom listening to his records"
An art school friend of Justice's Xavier De Rosnay, in later years, the likes of Air, Alex Gopher, Mr Oizo and of course Daft Punk were on heavy rotation for Thibaut, this heady melange of all of the above helping to create the Breakbot sound.
Just like one of his biggest inspirations, in the form of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" it was Berland's intention to make an album that rewards you for listening to as a whole: "I guess you could say my album is more a pop songs album than a Berlin techno record with water drops sounds in it - I wanted to make a pop journey that would have all my influences, without being a reference catalog"
From the opening perfect slice of retro/future summer funk 'Break Of Dawn', it's clear that this has to be one of 2012's funkiest albums... 'Fantasy features the vocals of L.A. based vocalist Ruckazoid - an astonishing discovery whose honied pipes are a dead ringer for the late, lamented King Of Pop..'One Out of Two' features Irfane's irresistible vocals, in addition to four other tracks ('Baby I'm Yours', 'A Mile Away', 'Another Dawn' and 'Mayfly and the Light'). Björn from Pacific sings on the glorious 'By Your Side (Pt 1 & 2)".
"I do everything myself except the vocals. I just fiddle about, I couldn't play a classical part, I do what I can. There are pieces of guitar samples, friends drop-in and play over my instrumentals. I love pop and funk, so I try to take that direction. That's where that hybrid sound comes from. Breakbot is a dude in a basement looking for melodies", says the ever modest Thibaut.

Modern Obscure Music is proud to present Pierre Bastien & DJ Low's "Swing Low", a work that fuses the poetic inventiveness of Pierre Bastien with the visionary legacy of the late DJ Low (Tom Deweerdt), a central figure in Belgian independent music and founder of the influential Lowlands label. This album, which interweaves memory and experimentation, represents Bastien's debut on the Barcelona label's catalog and a testament to the creative bond between the two artists.
The album, composed of seven pieces, stands out for its hybrid nature: five reinterpretations of Bastien's previous works, some of them coming from his influential Mecanoid (originally released by Rephlex), and two unreleased improvisations, A Pupa and Reviver, which seal the unique character of the project.
Pierre Bastien, recognized as a composer, inventor and builder of sound machines, has been a tireless explorer of the frontiers between the mechanical and the musical. From his contribution to the Belcanto Orchestra, his collaboration with the PRSNT project to his participation in Pedro Vian's Earth, Our Planet or his collaboration with Tomaga for the Other People label, his career illustrates a constant commitment to experimentation and the intersection of disciplines. Among the artists he has worked with are names such as Robert Wyatt, Jac Berrocal, Jaki Liebezeit and designer Issey Miyake. His works have found homes on iconic labels such as Marionette, Morphine and Discrepant to name a few.

The album is presented with a visual design by Koen Bruyneel, reinterpreted as a tribute to Tom Deweerdt, a decade after his departure.

*Tresor are pleased to announce KERN: a showcase of old meets new, house meets techno, in the form of an exciting mix series aimed at delivering fresh narratives in electronic dance music. KERN will provide an insight into the tastes and personal histories of some of the scene's leading lights, allowing artists free reign to weave their own story through a mixture of rarities and brand new material. KERN transcends the usual parameters of an artist's mix to present a unique and timeless listening experience, which breaks down into a DJ-friendly and highly collectable trio of releases. *Kicking off the series is Parisian protagonist Cyril Etienne aka DJ Deep. Selected for his career-defining dedication to Detroit techno, NYC and Chicago house - "the roots" of house and techno - as DJ, producer and head of the Deeply Rooted House empire, DJ Deep heads back to his own origins to present KERN Vol.1: "As I was struggling to find an order through all the great material on the Tresor catalogue or what my label currently does, I came up with this idea of a DJ's diary - like the picture of a guy writing down in his notebook which new and classic tracks would be relevant today. I kept this concept in mind when making my selection, which really helped me to simply follow my feelings and the flow of the music." *The mix begins with a track recovered from the Tresor archives: A.E.S's "Music In My Head" produced by Arthur Forest, Eddie 'Flashin' Fowlkes and Santonio. The latter, who also brings a never-released title from '93 forth, "Amnesia". Along with Xperiment's "Karn Evil #10" and mix-closer "III", an early record from St. Germain as Deepside, these all make up The Rarities EP - one of two 12" records escorting KERN Vol.1 mixed by DJ Deep. The other 12" is a collection of tracks picked by DJ Deep exclusively for the compilation. Originally designed to appear on his "Computer Games" album in 2008, Kerri Chandler signs the a-side with "Cobal" - propped on the b-side by new French signee Marcelus, "Y02", and Psyk wielding his Maan alias on "Jackin". *DJ Deep even goes to greater lengths and digs up more exclusive works for the mix - Bleak's thudding "Noon Shape" as well as another entry from Kerri Chandler, this time an unreleased edit Rootstrax's Harlequin. Both titles are set to come out on Deeply Rooted House this fall, along with a reissue of "Head Talking" a genre-hopping tour-de-force by DJ Gregory. Meanwhile, the rest of the mix transitions from old garage to classic Chicago acid house via the likes of Visions (aka Juan Atkins) and Armando - "151" being a notable DJ Deep favourite - before techno luminaries Shed and Jeff Mills take up posts in the latter half alongside efforts from contemporary tastemakers Jonas Kopp, Ben Klock and Skudge to drive KERN Vol.1 home. "When I do these mix CDs, I try to bridge the old spirit of what I used to like so much in house and techno, with what I think is somehow still alive in the new generation of producers, making these, as we say in French, "clin d'oeil" moments. Musically it works so you don't have to know what's going on but if you actually look into the track list you will find, for example, a young French guy mixed into one of France's techno originators."
