Full Info:
Magna Pia, a.k.a seasoned producer, DJ, and composer Hüseyin Evirgen, announces his second full-length album, ‘QUT’, arriving on Inland’s Counterchange label in March on double vinyl.
After 2 steamrolling EPs of club tracks on the label - now entering its tenth year of action - Magna Pia presents his most complete and advanced body of work to date, weaving a dense narrative of drone, figurative synthesis, bass-heavy electronica, and abstract techno.
Over eight tracks each referencing his rich cultural and musical background, we are treated to a unique overview of a producer at the crest of his art. The word ‘Qut’ is an ancient positive affirmation, in one short word encompassing all that is sacred, pure and good. The Old Turkic term meaning not only ‘good fortune’ and ‘joy’, but in shamanic circles, the ‘wonder of the heavens’, permeates the roots of Evirgen’s multi-heritage history.
That Evirgen expresses his interpretation of this central theme through the marriage of bewitching melodies with atonal, experimental and rumbling electronics is a conscious comment on the distortions and mutations of our Modern Era. We now exist in the digital age of the Technosphere for better or worse, and must seek beauty wherever possible.
The opening ‘Prologue’ invites the listener into a futuristic yet organic sound world, where lush stereo processing goes hand in hand with rumbling bass and subtly detuned drone languages. From the echoes of traditional Uyghur folk music, translated via synthesizers into a glistening slow-diving opus (‘Qizil’), to churning dub-techno adorned with a symphony of evolving sine-waves (‘Venus M’), Evirgen then deploys ‘X’ - a haunting experimental piece composed predominantly with his voice and electronic processing.
The interweaving synth lines of ‘Gudanna’ pierce the fog with a radiant and transcendent club-techno bounce before the ode to the ancient Bronze Age goddess ‘Astarte’ unfolds its snare-driven broken-beat formations. The title track ‘Qut’ embodies by far the heaviest club track of the album, in a deadly, stripped-back moment of future-techno hypnotism. Dancing flames of purple-tongued synthesis are held (just) in line by a wonderfully tough throb of drums.
With his ‘Epilogue’, Magna Pia allows the spectral ideas and concepts laid out across the LP to connect and travel full circle, confirming our suspicions that this could be one of the most coherent and exciting works to emerge in the brave new field of introspective, and sensitive techno-electronic language.

Magna Pia - Akasha
Special remarks: 12" sleeve designed and screen printed by Alex from Cassegrain.
Tracklist:
A1. Artemisia B1. Semiramis B2. Akasha
Shortinfo:
Up next on Arcing Seas is Magna Pia with his second EP after his 2016 debut "Incantations" on Coun-terchange. Behind the alias is Hüseyin Evirgen, one half of Cassegrain.
ARCS-05 has a clear focus of providing combative dance floor trips, unorthodox sonic moods with subtle 90s techno references. The EP's track titles "Artemisia", "Semiramis" and "Akasha" pay tribute to three mighty ancient heroines of very different origins. Consequently, Magna Pia continues his in-terest in combining techno tracks with archaic symbolism.

'Incantations' is the debut EP from MAGNA PIA - the new solo project by Cassegrain member Hüseyin Evirgen. Hüseyin is one half of the Cassegrain duo alongside long-time colleague Alex Tsiridis. Renowned as a driving force within the world of leftfield club techno and contemporary sound design, Cassegrain are known for their work on labels like Prologue, and on Killekill and Infrastructure New York alongside Tin Man. Evirgen now comes to close colleague Ed Davenport's Counterchange imprint for this first fully fledged solo EP. As MAGNA PIA, he introduces his own very personal image of Techno - rich, textural and full of detail. Characterised by the kind of programming and nuances that only experienced, musically-trained producers are capable of, it offers a strong narrative throughout - from the low slung melodic churn of opening track 'Dhul' to the mutant acid of 'Nyx' at its epitaph. Over four tracks with four very different moods we are treated to a masterclass in hardware only, high-end electronics - weird, melodic, hypnotic, banging.

SHORT INFO:
Canadian deep house don Nick Holder's Fruit Loops EP is next to get the remaster and reissue treatment from Definitive Recordings. This label, now overseen by Get Physical Music, first released the EP back in 1995 when Toronto-based Holder had already become one of house music's most tasteful operators. He went on to release over 125 EPs and singles under countless aliases, in various groups, and on his labels DNH Records and Treehouse Records, as well as !K7 Records and NRK. His style spans house, disco loops and minimal Chicago grooves and is always high on immersive atmosphere. Opener 'Dance Dance Dance' brings together all those aspects of the Holder sound with its funky guitar riffs looping beneath raw drums and disco basslines. Classic Chic samples burst out of the mix to bring an air of celebration and party, and it makes for an irresistibly feel-good sound. 'Keep on Running' is a steamy and sweaty house jam with loopy drums and bass and more smartly chosen samples, this time from Roy Ayers, that bring the funk and never let up. It has long been a go-to anthem for house DJs, and the realness and rawness of the emotions in Holder's work also shine through with the filtered synths and jazzy keys of 'The Message of Love', which is complete with bumpy and irresistible drums. Last of all is the unfettered party spirit and diva vocals of the brilliantly lo-fi funk-house pumper that is 'Clap Ya Hands'. This EP hasn't aged one bit and remains a definitive piece of early Deep House history.

Sales Note

Sweely caps off a massive 2017 with a bumper 5-tracker EP of pure heaters.
Pressed on the classic "LT Records" centres, Nice Archive Traxx Vol. 1 is a lesson in raw, hissing house from the Concrete resident and one of France's finest new talents.
Stronger Than Me has been bothering mixes & radio for a good year now and takes pride of place on the A1. Skipped snares, wailing sax and clear vocal hits slot together around an NY house core. You Don't Really Want Me heats up the production just that bit more on the grill and adds in some serious Chi-town acidic flavour. 303's running riot from the midway.
On the B, Raw Thoughts takes a similarly blown-out production sensibility and drives it straight into laid-back electro territory. Elements of boogie spliced with sultry synth soloing and glacial pad ripples. Ice cream parlour chill jams.
Rounding out the EP are Acid City - a soulful deep house number overrun with grumpy, growling acid lines - and hyper beat-snippet You Do - a breaks-y beat track showcasing the other side of Sweely's enormous talent. Proper dredgin' beats from the raw!

Roy Davis Jr. was part of Phuture and then moved on to New York to record for Strictly Rhythm and DJ Duke's Power Music label. He was one of the main players in the 1990s House Music biz and is still very active until today.
Power Music issued his first long player „The Secret Mission“ and a number of Maxis. Some of his classics got reissued in 1996, sometimes remixed, re-edited and/or a bit faster than the original versions.
This remastered edition contains four of his biggest jams, carefully remastered by Thomas P. Heckmann (TPH). „2B Or Not 2B“ and „Heart Attack“ exist in two different versions, all included as a „digital only“ bonus.
Expect the best Chicago House, „Wild Pitch“ and the New York House sound can offer: Rolling drums, heavy snares, wild filter sweeps and slammin' vocals! More

INFO
X-Ray Zulu refers all the things that could be defined as correct, as right and as perfect in an imperfect World and context. It serves as a barometric meter of all harmonious things. And with this balance, there is a certain amount of clarity and certainty about what is connected to this subject. A strong mind or opinion, passion, dedication and devotion. Essentially, this release is about undeniably and incontestable truth.

Sully & Salo - Nights (Not Just A Dub Mix)
Sully returns to Astrophonica for a celestial collaboration with young Manchester based vocalist Salo.
Always one step ahead of the pack, Sully relinquishes the signature crusty Jungle breaks in exchange for crisp and steely, live sounding drums to provide the groove for a stripped back and crushed 808 bassline - a hi-def take on his iconic sound. This minimalist structure gives the foundations and space for Salo’s bittersweet vocals to take the lead with clarity and float off into the glorious twilight. A celestial collaboration that spotlights both artists’ strong points.
Sully totally flips the script with the ‘Not Just a Dub Mix’ by taking Salo’s vocals and giving them the Tubby treatment. The Jungle breaks return and sirens ring out - one for the club Salo, born in Tbilisi, Georgia before moving to Manchester via Glasgow as a child, is a classically trained pianist with all the swagger and charm of Manchester club music. She studied at Glasgow Music Academy and Royal Northern College of Music before working with club legends such as Zed Bias, Chimpo and Bassboy.
This is Sully’s first return to the label since 2020’s seminal, highly requested and repressed Swandive EP. At this point he honestly needs little introduction - he’s become one of the highest selling and most sought after Jungle artists for the best part of a decade and shows no signs of stopping More
