For German musicians the mid-70s to mid-80s were an extremely fertile and fruitful time. Though The Peace Chant series is focused mainly on amateur bands, private pressings, and long lost acetates, many of the artists included here nevertheless made their mark upon the German and world music scene and even played with many of the giants of the movement.

As the 60s were coming to a close, many German musicians began experimenting with fusing jazz, rock, pop, electronic, and world music with a harder, more aggressive sound. The resulting movement, originally called "kosmische music" or "cosmic music" would give way to the kaleidoscope of sounds now known as Krautrock.

Many labels and compilations, not to mention reissues have been focused on this moment and in many ways, today, there could be said to be a global revival in the art form by younger, modern bands. But this is where Tramp Records, always peeking behind the curtain, has decided to take "the road less traveled" as we trust them to do. This edition of the Peace Chant series explores the artists that, instead of going full steam ahead in the rock and world music direction, decided to play the role of 'spiritual advisor' to the movement and continue building a legacy of jazz and pop infusions to their more rock-oriented counterparts. Of course, there may not have been much commercial appeal of these recordings and many of them fell into obscurity. But it is thanks to the tireless efforts of Tramp Records that we are able to catch a glimpse of what undoubtedly the Giants of the genre at the time were already well aware of and likely being influenced by. As you will see, many of the artists in this compilation went on to become music teachers and mentors in their own right and surely influenced the course of music history in Germany. Now their stories are finally being told. And though the music is amazing on its own, it is truly astounding when cast in its historical context. MOVEMENTS Vol.12 – A bag full of rare rhythm & blues, mod-jazz, and mid 70s funk. Side A starts with rhythm & blues from the 1960s. Most of the tracks were pulled from hopelessly obscure 7" singles. The only names of which some of you might be familiar with are most likely Mat Mathews and Lu Elliott. However, both original 45 RPM singles are pretty hard to find these days, especially in playable condition. Side B is all about deepfunk this time. "Hipper Snapper " is a prime example of that genre. Some say its groove is reminiscent of Charles Wright's "Express Yourself. Agreed! The Villagers are responsible for the first 'aha' moment. Their (previously unreleased!) version of "Funky Broadway" would have certainly astounded even Dyke & The Blazers. Representing Germany on this volume: The Rippers, also called the "Offenburg Beatles"! Back in the USA, John Fogerty has probably never heard of this heavy school-funk cover of "Proud Mary". Drum breaks galore! Side C begins with another German contribution. Saxophonist Gus Brendel delivers a mod-jazz belter of the highest order as do The Hornets. Definitely sure-shots for any dance floors! High time for 'aha' moment #2. Many bands have tried their hands on a cover version of the Nat Adderley jazz classic, incl. vibraphone player Bret Breitinger! The perfect choice to finish this side is Downtown Trio's smooth and groovy cover of Gershwin's "Summertime ". Side D is reserved for proper 1970s funk. ONYX's "Break It Loose " has become a certified Rare Groove classic. Here you can enjoy it for the first time with the blessing of the band! Tramp Records International proudly presents: The 1975 Baltimore Colts Glenn Doughty and his All-Pro Shake & Bake Band! In 1975 Glenn "Shake & Bake" Doughty Wide Receiver for the Baltimore Colts formed the Shake & Bake Band. Glenn Doughty and his Baltimore Colts Shake and Bake Band of the 70's is the first musical group consisting of former NFL All-Pro players that Tramp Records has partnered with in its history! Doughty is a Detroit 'Motown' native and All-American from the University of Michigan, that was recently crowned national champion and the winningest college football program in NCAA History. Doughty and his four world-class athletic teammates formed the heart of the band. The Shake & Bake Band in the mid 70s played live at Baltimore's hottest Clubs with teammates in attendance on Monday nights after Shakin' & Bakin' their opponents on Sunday at Memorial Stadium. Doughty's sports hero was Muhammad Ali. He originated the popular Shake & Bake athletic movement scoring touchdowns. He recited Shake & Bake poetry like Ali to make predictions after games on local and national TV to celebrate Colts victories. His lyrics in his music were used to fire up thousands of his Colts fans and his teammates. Many fans felt the group sounded like WAR the popular funk group from California. Members of the Shake & Bake Band were: Glenn "Dr. Shake" Doughty #7, All-Time Colts leading Wide Receiver, producer, lead singer, congas and lyrics, Ray "RC Cola" Chester, All-Pro Tight End, Super Bowl Champion, Bass, Baltimore, Maryland, David "DT" White, Wide Receiver Lead Guitar, producer, sound technician. Buffalo N.Y., Lloyd "The Bullet" Mumford, Defensive Back Harmonica, Miami Florida, Freddie "Bones" Scott, All-Pro Wide Receiver on percussion, Grady Arkansas, and Bruce "Turn it Loose" Barnett, Drummer and shoe salesman. Randallstown, Maryland. This group of talented stars lead the Colts to its first ever three consecutive Eastern Division Championships. Between 1975 and 1977 they also became the first group of pro athletes to create two records while playing football together for a NFL team. Their debut 7-inch single from 1976 was cut at 33 1/3 RPM due to the length of the songs. "Shake and Bake Pt.1" lasts for 4:30 minutes while Part 2 stretches out to an incredible 7:00 minutes!

MUSIC FOR A SUNDOWNER – Melodic AOR / Yacht Rock from GermanyTramp fans will already be familiar with the band "People", as they were featured on the latest edition of the "Praise Poems" series (Volume 9, TRLP/CD-9109). "Misty Mood" was not only the song we included on Praise Poems 9 but also the title of their debut album from 1981. However, it wasn't their first release on Vinyl.In 1969, two years after the group was founded, a 7-inch single EP with four folk songs was released, by then under the name "The People". With Woodstock and the changes in folk and rock music in the early 1970s, bandleader Bernd Heyder dissolved the band. A few years later he founded "People", whose sound was now based on artists such as Crosby, Stills and Nash and Neil Young. After many frenetically celebrated live performances, the desire to record a full length album arose at the end of the 1970s. In 1981 the time had come and "Misty Mood" was released on a small, local label called "Ohrwurm Records". Just one year later the band released their second album titled "Easy Going". Their third and final album, which exclusively contains songs with German lyrics, was released on CBS Records in 1983. CBS wanted to sign Bernd Heyder as a solo artist, but he politely declined. When the hoped-for success failed to materialize, CBS prematurely terminated the band's contract. In 1984, "People" disbanded.With the stunning LP release "Natures Melody", Tramp Records honors Aschaffenburg's "People" after almost 45 years. The reason why no one has really taken an interest in them so far may be because the original Vinyl records are anything but rare. For the 'people' behind Tramp Records, this is absolutely insignificant, it's simply the music what counts. And the songs are so extraordinary that we are proud to set up a special monument to the band with this album.

While this may be the first release on Sheffield's Central Processing Unit from Global Goon, the one known to friends and family as Johnny Hawk brings a whole heap of experience to the Nanoclusters mini-LP. Hawk started dropping Global Goon records on the legendary Rephlex Records back in the 1990s. The project's subsequent releases have taken in imprints as esteemed as WéMè and Balkan. Factor in a whole host of other aliases which have delivered missives via the likes of Planet Mu, and you know even before you press play on this witty, wily record that you're dealing with a master at work here. The confidence with which Global Goon approaches Nanoclusters shines through in Hawk taking much of the mini-album at midtempo. Cuts like 'Khroxic Mould', 'Metallik' and 'Syntheseers' sound like Bochum Welt heading down a dark alleyway. The former in particular is a seasick lope, the tuned synths lurching around like sailors on deck in a storm as bass ebbs and flows underneath the mix. The influence of Kraftwerk comes through prominently at times here, particularly in the way 'Calcula' and 'Digit Six' play pensive, slightly sombre synth chords off some simple but effective forward motion in the drum programming. That is not to say that Nanoclusters is not full of invention, though. None of the productions are overly flash, but this approach allows the little details to shine through more clearly, from cleverly panned hi-hats to hissing synth counter-melodies which flit in and out of the mix. Enthralling and packed full of ear candy, they're further evidence that Nanoclusters is the work of an expert craftsman. While the pulse of Nanoclusters remains relatively steady throughout, it's still a rather lively record. Plenty of these tracks will get the dancefloor moving if deployed correctly - though whether they're heard at home or in the dance, it's the attention to detail which makes them stand out. 'Snapterisk' is as perfect an example of machine-funk as you're likely to find - the drum programming is razor-sharp but rubbery with bongos, the bass a lithe burble, and those wobbly stabs of keys that put a bit of wiggle in the beat? Delightful stuff. Elsewhere the ever-looping arpeggio of 'Metro Esc' has hints of Frankie Knuckles' house classic 'Your Love', though an array of interesting sonic nuggets - snippets of vocal, radar-like bloops, a gently insistent low-end pulse - soften the track's clubbier elements with a pillowy sheen. And Hawk throws us a curveball right at the end of Nanoclusters, tapping back into that old Rephlex sound for the fizzy, braindancing 'Metal Glass'. Global Goon doesn't need to show off on Nanoclusters - from brilliantly slick machine-funk to Kraftwerkian reveries, the CPU debutant lets the music do the talking here. It makes for a confident and vivacious mini-LP, one which wears its expertise lightly.

Managing two record labels and the most successful electronic music school in the country has left Natia Sartania aka sTia with little time for her own music for the past 13 years. On its 25th release, Delights label welcomes Mozaik Ses - a new collaboration between the Tel-Aviv-based funk combo VuVuVu, the pioneering Munich legend JJ Whitefield (The Poets of Rhythm, Karl Hector & the Malcouns), and Delights head honcho, Markey Funk. Together, the group cooked two pieces of scorching eastern-flavoured funk: the hypnotic mind-melter "Aralkum" and the menacing upbeat floor-killer "Zellij".
