Wewantsounds is glad to continue its Akiko Yano reissue series with the release of the singer"s third studio album "To Ki Me Ki", recorded in New York and released in 1978 in Japan. It follows her cult "Iroha Ni Konpeitou" LP and keeps the similar blend of Japanese pop and New York funk found in the latter. "To Ki Me Ki" features such musicians as Rick Marotta, Will Lee and David Spinozza and also programmer Hideki Matsutake who would soon join the YMO with Akiko for their international 1979/1980 tour before she recorded her next studio album "Tadaima" that year, featuring the YMO musicians. "To Ki Me Ki" is reissued outside of Japan for the first time, remastered in Tokyo by revered engineer Mitsuo Koike and featuring original artwork by Tsutomu Murakami with 4 page colour insert and new liner notes by Paul Bowler.

Most tracks here are making their debut on vinyl outside of Japan and the album, like its predecessors, has been designed by Optigram"s Manuel Sepulveda and is annotated by DJ Notoya. Wewantsounds is delighted to announce the release of Ryuichi Sakamoto's classic LP "Coda”, issued in Japan in 1983 as a solo piano version of the "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" soundtrack. The album, which was never been released outside of Japan until now, sees Sakamoto on acoustic piano reinterpreting fascinating versions of his famous soundtrack including the classic theme and "Germination," which was later used in the "Call Me By Your Name" soundtrack. This reissue has been remastered by Seigen Ono's Saidera Mastering studio in Tokyo and boasts the original artwork plus a 4-page insert with new liner notes by Andy Beta.
When the film "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" hit the cinema in Summer 1983, it was a worldwide instant success, due in no small parts to its renowned director, Nagisa Oshima and to its superb cast including David Bowie, Takeshi Kitano and Ryuichi Sakamoto. The latter, fresh from his success with Yellow Magic Orchestra and a thriving nascent solo career, was also enrolled to compose the score of the film.
The soundtrack was released at the same time as the film in Summer 1983. It became equally successful and made the Japanese composer a global icon as the instrumental theme became an instant classic all around the world and also Sakamoto's signature track from then on.
That same year, his Japanese label decided to release an exclusive cassette book as the format was getting popular in Japan. The project, called “Avec Piano,” featured an audio cassette together with a beautiful 80 page book including illustrations and texts by various designers and writers. As for the music, Sakamoto re-recorded the Merry Christmas soundtrack on solo piano at the Onkyo Haus studio in Tokyo. This version of the theme which Sakamoto would re-record many times, is therefore the first ever recorded solo piano version of the composition. As Andy Beta notes in the liner notes, "Now we can hear Sakamoto –seated in front of Steinway full concert piano housed in the first studio at Onkyo House in Ginza– his lifelong debt to the music of Debussy (and “Claire de Lune” specifically) laid bare.
The cassette book's success led to an LP release a few months later under a new title, "Coda" and with a different artwork by Japanese designer Tsuguya Inoue. The original orchestrated theme "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (which had been included on the cassette as a bonus on top of the piano version) was dropped, replaced by two new tracks, "Japan" and "Coda," recorded a couple of years earlier in 1981 and featuring Ryuichi Sakamoto's blend of ethereal ambient soundscapes and modern electronics.
The album, which has never been available outside of Japan, has become cult over the years for the fascinating interpretation of the main theme, but also for "Germination," which was used by Luca Guadagnino in the soundtrack of his arthouse hit "Call Me By Your Name" in 2017. "Coda" is quintessential Ryuichi Sakamoto and an essential album in the Japanese composer’s discography, which Wewantsounds is delighted to bring to his many international fans for the first time.

The Boogie Man / Sipho Gumede - Jika Jika (The Odd Bits)
NON EXCLUSIVE - Territory : World Excluding UK
Holy Grail South African jazz funk cover of Grandmaster Flash 'The Message'.
Vive La Musique is proud to bring you an official reissue featuring South African artist - the late great Sipho Gumede - in his 'Boogie Man' guise and prolific producer Greg Cutler.
Originally released in 1984, 'Jika Jika' is an audaciously sassy version of Grandmaster Flash's 'The Message'. A Linn drum machine and Jupiter 4 synth recreate the feel of the hip hop masterpiece, whilst Sipho's infectious bassline and a soulful female chorus, bring a whole new dimension of South African groove to the cut. A mysterious rap vocal makes this arguably South Africa's first ever hip-hop record.
The flip sees a jazzy synth taking the lead over a gritty version of the instrumental for an even sleazier experience.
Recorded at the famous mobile Battery Studios in Botswana, an essential space for black South African musicians during apartheid, the original vinyl release was limited to a few hundred promotional copies and is impossible to find. The release has been carefully remastered for this official reissue, which comes in a beautiful colour sleeve, based on the original artwork.
"The remasters sound Brilliant!I am loving it all over again nearly 40 years later! Will be great to see this debut on 7"' .
Greg Cutler (Original producer)

4. INFO:
Ash Ra Tempel is the eponymous debut studio album by the Krautrock band Ash Ra Tempel.
It features guitarist Manuel Göttsching with drummer Klaus Schulze and bassist Hartmut Enke.
Engineered by Conny Plank it was recorded in March 1971 and released in June 1971 on Ohr Records.
This 50Th Anniversary Album will be Released in Memoriam of all the Musical Contributors to this Release and on Manuel Göttsching´s MG.ART label.
It´s the fourth and headlining edition in this series and was finalised, carefully overseen by Manuel Göttsching himself in the late Autumn of 2022.
Much has been written about the record and band.
Having finished a first musical chapter with their Steeple Chase Bluesband and still at very young age of only 17 and 18 years old Manuel Göttsching and Hartmut Enke met Klaus Schulze. Together they started to write and and compose what, to many,
became one the holy grails of Psychedelic Rock and early Electronic Music -
the German variant which was later also named "Krautrock":
Ash Ra Tempel´s self-titled first album "Ash Ra Tempel".
"The trio of Klaus Schulze, Manuel Göttsching and Hartmut Enke decided to abandon conventional composition and song writing, in favour of free-form improvising and developing a new musical language. As such, they became notorious for jams that could exceed 30 minutes." Says Discogs. "Some of these recordings can be found on Manuel Göttsching´s "The Private Tapes" releases", which will be re-released on MG.ART as well, following this edition.
"Krautrocksampler" author Julian Cope mentioned it to be "… one of the greatest rock 'n' roll LPs ever made." (Julian Cope Presents Head Heritage | Unsung | Reviews | Ash Ra Tempel - Ash Ra Tempel". 15 March 2000.)
AllMusic called the album "both astonishingly prescient and just flat out good, a logical extension of the space-jam-freakout ethos into rarified realms."
Here we would like the Band to be heard, for what can easily be said as the first time in 50+ years, with the exception of some early Journalists for whom the young Manuel Göttsching wrote a statement of intent (the original text can be found inside this edition) as following:
"Our musical concept is based on a combination of blues rock and delicate collages of electronic sound. These two elements should remain inseparable. And in their complex unity, the different musical philosophies of each musician find a common sweet spot. Our music is a permanently impulsive experience left to develop as it will, starting from a common fixed point of departure. This is where the difficulty of the music begins: No standardized formulation of our music can and should be possible. Only the constant reaction within the band can determine the musical result. And this requires constant listening with full concentration on the part of the creators. The idea of a particular musician will be - if flexible enough - absorbed by the others, transposed to their own instrument, and reflected back into the music as an individual contribution. This reciprocity within the band is then transferred over to the audience. And this process means that their reaction is not only a contribution to the end result; it actually makes them jointly responsible for the creation of the final musical product.
…
On our album, the track "Amboss" represents the first layer. Conventional instruments communicate familiar music which is in part expanded through electronic means. In the second track of the album - "Traummaschine" - the actual basic sound approach is dissolved into an electronic Nirvana which no longer allows the concrete identification of actual instruments. Innocent, virgin listening, free from any and every association, can finally begin - and the music can be absorbed and processed free from the limitations of categorization. That is the purpose of our music: To convey freedom without any predetermined criteria or traditions.
Thank you for your attention."

Hartmut Enke, Manuel Göttsching and Klaus Schulze aka. Ash Ra Tempel travelled to Hamburg in March 1971 to record their debut, with assistance of another Icon, legendary engineer Conny Plank.

INFO:
After putting out a slew of self-released cuts as LKY, Figure finally gets a hold of the rising techno talent that is Nathan Lockwood. Hailing from the UK, this young talent carries an extensive understanding of Britain’s techno lineage, with over a decade of experience in the game both as promoter and DJ.
Now fully coming into his own as a producer, LKY’s tracks are informed by the loopy nature of his progenitors, while still retaining some of the core dub influences and yet always keeping a propulsive momentum going.
On his EP for Figure, title track Symmetry Zone opens with full force, seamlessly intertwining twisting rhythms and searing percussion into a powerful maelstrom of energy. The A2 Chaser is a more reduced take on the formula, rolling out a muscular groove with only a handful of elements, such as precise low-end and some curious synths doing all the work.
On the flip, LKY shows a deeper side to his work, focusing on the hypnotic element that he has become known for. Tracking strikes a wonderful balance between the dubby synth stabs and driving claps, while Formed has an almost Deep House-feel to it, imbued with gorgeous warm ambiance and teasing vocal snips. The digital format of X38 comes with bonus track Idle Ride, a deeper, more tribal affair, displaying LKY’s versatility as a gifted producer.

* New from Innerground Records (co-founded by DJ Marky), also the home of Calibre, BassBrothers, Random Movement and Blade, comes the highly anticipated Vinyl LP from DJ Marky, XRS & Makoto, 'Soul Samba (DJ Marky & Makoto 2024 Remix)'. Breathing new life into the 2004 hit from DJ Marky & XRS, the Remix from DJ Marky and Makoto does not disappoint. This special collaboration between some of the most important figures in the genre creates a ground-breaking Single, that marks 20 years since the release of the 2004 Single 'Soul Samba / Breeze VIP', and the 21st birthday of Inneground Records - founded in 2003.
* It should come as no surprise that the EP packs a punch, when looking at the combined experience of its contributors. 'Soul Samba (DJ Marky & Makoto 2023 Remix' begins as a bold statement from veteran D&B duo DJ Marky & Makoto, laying down the foundations of what's yet to come. We're taken on a ride through morphing tempos and enchanting vocals that hammer home what this immense vicennial EP is all about - a special milestone that represents the unwavering support of loyal Innerground fans over the past two decades.
TRACKLIST:
A1 : DJ Marky & XRS - Soul Samba (DJ Marky & Makoto 2024 Remix) (LEAD SINGLE (SPECIALIST RADIO PLUGGING BY DAWBELL PR)
The Single launches with the warm Brazilian sunshine D&B that Innerground's main man Marky is known for. The frequent collaborators Marky and Makoto team up to bring a fresh perspective on one of Innerground's most loved hits. Uplifting harmonies intertwine with playful melodies to shape not only a guaranteed party starter, but a track that will put a smile on your face.
A2 : DJ Marky - Star Trippin'
Marky delivers an elegant, jazz piano number as his second instalment to the EP. A truly signature sound that Marky has become synonymous with, as breaks contrast below shimmering chords. This track has the duality to kick the night off, or to bring it to a close!
B1 : DJ Marky - (it's just a) Simple Song
Airy pads and enchanting vocals intertwine, building to a sliding bassline and groovy ricocheting synth stabs. Complemented by twinkling piano notes and koto plucks, this is an instant classic from Marky.
B2 : DJ Marky - Kochi
'Kochi' seals the EP with a bang - taking inspiration from the Japanese city, Marky turns up the pace in a high energy, neon drenched hit that races to the destination of the journey he's just taken us on. You won't want to miss out on this sensational EP from the man who's proven over the past 20 years he can do it time and time again!
