Playful, powerful and elasticated with the Chicago influences that bounce close to his heart, ‘Party Going On’ unfolds as a Jackmaster calling card, a pleasure-seeking anthem built around a rousing B-girl vocal from singer Yvonne, responsible for a series of cult singles on New York’s prolific and influential house label, Cutting Records. With the assistance of a supremely cheeky original synth line, one that wouldn’t fail to move a crowd in any discotheque from 1989 until now, ‘Party Going On’ sees Jack Revill bridge generations of dance floors with contemporary energy. An artist at the height of his powers, arriving o? the back of his busiest Ibiza season to date, it’s safe to say that Dennis Cruz is a man in extremely high demand within the global electronic landscape. Founder of his own labels MÜSE and CRZ, while featuring as a key member of the Solid Grooves Family, Cruz’s longstanding ties to Crosstown Rebels date back to his debut in 2018. Returning to the imprint following his excellent album ‘Roots’ in 2021, plus his recent contribution to the 20th Anniversary compilation with his remix of Pier Bucci’s ‘Hay Consuelo’, Cruz is back in emphatic fashion as he marks the 300th release in the label’s revered catalogue with his latest EP ‘The Snake Charmer’ - featuring two solo tracks alongside collaborations with fellow Crosstown signee Ian Ludvig and label founder Damian Lazarus himself. Accomplished UK mainstay J1Mi launches the long awaited Beyonders label with a fantastic first EP that captures the eclectic nature of his sound. J1mi aka James Hadfield has been making all manner of sounds for years - both solo and as one half of Lizards - from house to disco, Balearic to techno, and always on revered labels like MeMeMe, Not An Animal, Leng, Futureboogie and Phonica. He is part of the Beyonders collective that was started by Jason and Mark Goodings of 90’s pioneering breaks and drum and bass duo Hidden Agenda. The collective is now back after a hiatus following Mark's tragic passing in 2016 and is as fruitful as ever with members including James as well as Mal Sharp and Nick Grimes and now a new label.The brilliant 'Sixes Now' has a menacing synth screwing about the mix before percussive grooves and elastic bass arrive to lock you into a dark disco groove full of menace and suspense. The thumping 'Modern Maze' is another hugely inventive sound with rickety rhythms, erotic vocal coos and wiry synths. A bewitching breakdown brings acoustic guitars and places the vocal front and centre before the punchy house kicks come back once more. 'Desire' featuring Crazy P vocalist Danielle Moore is an indie disco cut with jazzy chords and playful funk riffs that lift the spirits and cruise on smooth grooves. Anané’s Take A Ride EP was produced by Two Soul Fusion, aka Louie Vega and Josh Milan, all with live string arrangements courtesy of the Apple Hill String Quartet and conducted by Leroy Burgess. The recording dives from the effortless heights of Punk Disco (Let Me Be Your Fantasy, High) into the swirling eddies of Jazz Funk (Coffy Is The Color) before climbing back out into the languorous arms of Italo-Disco (Tutto Previsto). Strings across the production were The EP is held together in its entirety by the dreamy, sumptuous vocal of its creator Anané, who considers her top line one vital part of the instrumental whole. “I am art,” Anané reflects carefully, “for I am the music as much as I am the singer. Creation means to crawl into the unseen of my own dreams and becoming the beast of my vision, singing to the world as I go by.” More

The latest release from "Matasuna Records" is the result of a transatlantic connection between the USA and Germany, whose common denominator is the love for Brazilian music. The journey started 17 years ago when the German musical duo "Dubben" got in touch with the late American musician "Victor Meshkovsky". Almost two decades later, the Dubben interpretations of two songs that he once released with his band "Made in Brasil" on his own "Nucleus" label are now available! The second Dubben 7-inch on Matasuna features their great versions of the songs "Grilos Cantam Para Anamaria" and "One Two-Two" with a captivating vocal contribution by singer "María del Rosario". The 7-inch includes an inlay with detailed liner notes by Dubben about the background of this release. When Victor heard about Dubben's intention to reinterpret his version of the "Marcos Valle" classic Grilos Cantam Para Anamaria, he immediately loved the idea. This version is raw and funky, according to the original plan, with "Christina Joy's" original vocals isolated from the 1975 album. Bassist "MC Scholze" lifts the down-to-earth chord changes up into souljazz territories, while the typical ingredients of the Dubben sound – brass and percussion feeding tape delays and spring reverb chambers – happily groove along. Originally a psyched-out proggy-ish Brasil track, Dubben takes Victor's composition "One Two-Two", puts it in a box and sends it to Colombia. Of course, the parcel gets stuck on its way, much to the delight of the audience. A slow Cumbia burner with 100% organic ingredients: straight bass drum, fender bass, springy guitars, a detuned Italian organ and tons of improvised percussion, performed and recorded by the band themselves. Finally, "María del Rosario's" vocal contribution, in both English and Spanish, is more than just the icing on the cake - it's the Latin soul of the track. ¡Un dos-dos! More
