B2 Recordings welcomes Greek Techno pioneer Novatek onto its roster this February with the 'Innerzone' EP. Savvas Georgiadis is a music producer from Thessaloniki, Greece and one of the pioneers of the techno scene in his country. His activities in electronic music started in 1992 and since then, Savvas, using various pseudonyms/projects, such as Dataman, Fujiyama, The Repeater, Neural Network, Interphaze and of course Novatek which he returns to here, has released music ranging from deep minimal techno to percussive tools, electro, and industrial/EBM. Here his latest offerings come via the burgeoning B2 Recordings, headed up by fellow Greek artist and DJ, Bengoa. Up first on the package is 'Beats Me', fuelled by gritty dub stabs, dynamic 909 drums, a funk-infused bass lick and sporadic vocal chants before title-cut 'Innerzone' leads things down a more 90's-tinged IDM path via offkilter drums, sweeping atmospherics and wandering electronic funk melodies. Opening the flip side is 'Outta Here', which returns to more dubbed out territories, fusing bubbling dub echoes with heavily swung organic drums, bright string lines and rumbling subs. via Bengoa’s fledgling B2 Recordings, which sees him experimenting with some
outboard classics like the classic Casio RZ-1 drum machine and the Roland JX8P
synthesizer to create a raw, old school feel.
Opening the package is title-cut ‘Onions’ the ‘Lee Anderson Endless Summer Mix’, laid out
over eight minutes with hazy stab sequences, dusty drums and a chugging low-end drive
while squelching acid licks subtly work their way into the latter stages of the
composition.
‘Hello Rave’ follows next on the flip-side, bringing airy dub chords, metallic stabs and
gritty analogue percussion into the limelight for a groove-driven workout. ‘Basement
Memories’ then rounds things out, this time bringing dynamically evolving, intricate

Collecting analogue gear from the age of 15, Zaq's output has influences from dub to italo, early 80s and 90s drum machines, ambient, reggae and acid house - his debut on B2 recordings is a personal statement and the start of many great things that are about to follow from the young artist.'' 'Body Waves' leads on the release, a tripped out dub infused cut drive by evolving ethereal atmospheres, echoing synth stabs and off-kilter drums. Following is 'Take Heed' which embraces a more tool like approach via bumpy beats and circling dub to keep things moving. On the flip, the original mix of 'Magic Silver' is up first, showcasing the acid house influences of the artist, blending together squelchy 303 licks with dub stab sequences and 808 drums. Bengoa's Club Reshape of Magic silver then rounds out the package and tips things into peak-time realms, fusing the original with a dynamic 909 drum workout and enchanting spoken word vocals.

This Samba Rock classic was penned by Jorge Ben Jr. Another find at the legendary Tony's Hits in Sao Paulo, one of Mr Bongo's all time favourite digging spots. Taken from her self-titled 1970 LP on Odeon Brazil. Previosuly unreleased on 7".
'Quarteto Em Cy', were a prolific and very popular Samba/MPB group comprising four sisters hailing from Ibirataia in Bahia. 'Tudo Que Voce Podia Ser' is one of our all time favourite Brazilian songs, originally written by Milton Nascimento & Lo Borges that appears on their seminal Clube da Esquina LP.
This version is taken from Quarteto's 1972 LP on Odeon. It was also released on a 7" in 1972, in a unique Brazilian style 4-track EP, cut at 33rpm. A lovely idea but not so good for sound quality!

Constantly referenced and revered decades after its release, SAWII has seen accolades such as the Pitchfork perfect 10 and #2 best ambient album of all time.
Written in his early 20s, it follows the glacial synths and deft percussion of Selected Ambient Works 85-92 and preceding the contorted, intricate, abstract visions of electronic music on ...I Care Because You Do. Aphex Twin crafted this mammoth set of mostly beatless vistas, textured compositions that are by turns beautiful, nightmarish, emotive, and thrilling.
From swooning beauty to careening dread, even in just the first two tracks, SAWII is a stunning and faultless piece of work. Each soundscape brings with it the sense of standing in some vast space, with dripping rusted pipes and dilapidated walls, or endless canyons of low bitrate whooshing winds. Tracks like ‘Blue Calx’ emanate a strange kind of peace, with synths that sound like wobbling laminated paper or underwater radar blips while a constant knocking keeps pace. Elsewhere, curious microtonal keys flutter and subtly morph, low frequencies throb and purr, and oscillating hums induce hypnagogia.
The gossamer soft chords of ‘#3’ (AKA ‘Rhubarb’) move slow as clouds, airy wisps that are translated into orchestral grandeur on the exclusive ‘Rhubarb Orc. 19.53 Rev’ with quivering strings, ethereal choir, and reversed molten bass, while ‘th1 [evnslower]’ is a sonorous blur floating from hopeful lifts to anxious dissonance. Finally included on all formats after 30 years, ‘#19’ (AKA ‘Stone In Focus’) seems to smooth over all the wrinkles of life with its blissfully monolithic chords and faint ripples of melody, its ticking like skipping stones marking the passage of time till it slows to a gentle halt.

Tracks like ‘Blue Calx’ emanate a strange kind of peace, with synths that sound like wobbling laminated paper or underwater radar blips while a constant knocking keeps pace. Elsewhere, curious microtonal keys flutter and subtly morph, low frequencies throb and purr, and oscillating hums induce hypnagogia.
The gossamer soft chords of ‘#3’ (AKA ‘Rhubarb’) move slow as clouds, airy wisps that are translated into orchestral grandeur on the exclusive ‘Rhubarb Orc. 19.53 Rev’ with quivering strings, ethereal choir, and reversed molten bass, while ‘th1 [evnslower]’ is a sonorous blur floating from hopeful lifts to anxious dissonance. Finally included on all formats after 30 years, ‘#19’ (AKA ‘Stone In Focus’) seems to smooth over all the wrinkles of life with its blissfully monolithic chords and faint ripples of melody, its ticking like skipping stones marking the passage of time till it slows to a gentle halt.
