Because of Ken Collier, Detroit developed a dance scene, which inspired artist & producers to make dance records, which gave birth to Techno, which has provided careers for many of you in the business today. So I dare ask all you techno producers, djs, record labels, record shops, techno magazines, clubs which play techno music, and fans of techno to pay respect to Ken Collier just as you would our other fine music innovators.

However, this special compilation isn't about techno, it's about H.O.U.S.E. sounds - broadcasting it to you live from the inside in lovely Ste - re - o!!. This record contains no artist or track listing because i don't want this to be about who made the tracks, track titles, or even who wrote this commentary. This record is my personal tribute to him and how he has motivated me to make my contributions to house music. Handpicked by Terrence Parker himself, both remixers offer fresh takes on two of the standout tracks of the original LP.
For the first and last track of the EP Michele Chiavarini reworks 'Just Like Muzik', with a bass lick which dances in and out of shuffling hats, channelling the high energy of the original house patterns and stabs into something different. Soulful pad progressions merge with Merachka's original vocal, before energetic strings and vibraphone solo take over, carrying the listener along.
DJ Steve Crawford's remix of 'The Sabath' sees him transpose the arpeggiated synth rhythm and pads of the original into a fresh grooving 4/4 affair. Congas and punching kicks meet with harmonious string melody and slapped bass, creating a head-nodding reimagining of the master.

Born out of a summer (and time) sadly lost forever, this new release on Souvenirs From Imaginary Cities will break your skull open most tenderly, so its fine particles of audio dust can mingle with the last rays of sunshine and the bitter storms of this autumn. Track after track, this LP draws you in with a natural flow and a deep-felt pulse, reminiscent of classic slices of raw and sample-based ambient like Susumu Yakota's 'Sakura' and 'Everyone Alive Wants Answers' by Colleen. These tunes are heartfelt, melancholic, real, emotional.
It's a very personal and unique blend of almost nineties chill out zoning with a dubby undertow, rich textured loops, mixing a whole range of crazy acoustic and electronic flavours — stuff that shouldn't work together but are dancing all the way to heaven anyways — with slow-burning, dusty slabs of melody and those deep choral pads (some Rachmaninov vesper magic in the air), everything rough around the edges and low slung but so damn precise. A subtle mélange between abstract and more concrete sonic territories, but delivered in an upfront, improvised manner with great intuition and a rough but poetic touch.
The name of this piece of swampy, chopped up but most nicely presented ambient work is ‘La Ho’, by Purpurniy Dyadya aka Purple Uncle aka Sergey Dmitriev, originally residing in St. Petersburg but living now in Armenia. Sergey has been busy on labels like Echotourist, Hair Del, Nazlo and most recently with fellow traveller Nikita Chepurnoi as Amkarahoi on Patience/Impatience. Using old tapes from his childhood times, filled with all kinds of sonic memories and Russian underground hip-hop as sample ground, he loaded up his MPC with magic dust and jammed out the basis of this LP during a summer fest near St. Petersburg
in 2021.
It's the kind of record that needs some time to really let loose its inherent power. Give it some air, let it hop along a bit and the sounds will bloom wide open. Sounds to put in an envelope and send without a return address/further delay to the last one that transformed your heart into a smoky pile of rubble — or to your sweet self, of course. Part of the proceeds from this release will go to the Ukrainian aid organisation "Voices of Children”.

Firstly, I want to thank Soulox & Soeneido for their patience because I have slept on their music for years haha
They have both been sending me music for a long time which I was pretty slack on checking (as a lot of people may have also noticed when sending me music, there's a huge backlog to get through and not enough hours in the day!) but it wasn't until Pete Dev/Null was in London for an event and we met up in person to record a mix for Blog To The Oldskool (our show on Jungletrain) that I realised what these two were capable of. Pete started the show with Lavish and I had to know what it was straight away, he told me it was by Soulox & Soeneido and I felt so bad that I had probably not bothered to check this tune if they had sent it to me, but I knew I had to have it!
I messaged Soen the next day asking about this tune and thankfully it was still available, one thing led to another and this release now exists. While often overshadowed by the Detroit and New York scenes, Toronto's underground in the early '90s was brewing its own potent blend of house and techno - and these tracks are prime examples of that cross-border synergy. ANNE and Sera J close their Symbiosis series on Mutual Rytm with third and most refined EP yet.
This final chapter reflects everything the collaboration has stood for across a trio of inventive techno releases on SHDW's imprint. Creative and life partners ANNE and Sera J have been two voices growing in parallel, evolving separately but moving with the same pulse. ANNE is well established thanks to standout EPs on the likes of Soma and Hardgroove, while Sera J has released on the likes of Life in Patterns and Renegade Methodz, and both have featured on Mutual Rytm's 'Federation Of Rytm' series before now. 'Symbiosis III' is the moment where everything comes full circle: the culmination of a journey built on respect, creativity, and the freedom to explore their own paths while lifting each other forward.
Sera J kicks off with 'Ransomware', a commanding and driving techno cut lit up with flashy synths but always moving with urgency. 'Phosphate' keeps the energy levels high with stripped-back drums and bass designed to perfection, while 'Anthrax' has an anxious edge. The synths are wispy but evocative as bass kills and swiping filters bring the drama.
ANNE then ups the ante with the acid-tinged 'Dementia', which is loopy and unrelenting before 'A Taste of a Real Woman' gets more seductive with a sultry spoken word and sustained chords that bring the paranoia. 'Heart Rate' is propulsive with Detroit-style synth soul and an aching vocal, before Sera J returns with 'On the Run' - a percussive, trippy and eerie roller. His final Cut 'Similar Minds' has a searching synth surveying a desolate landscape, before ANNE then closes the EP with the punchy drum patterns and icy hi hats of 'Primal Howl Of Ego' and a blend of deep drums and evocative synth work on the 'Analog Heartbeat' - which proves potent techno can be beautiful.

Grandiose is Devin Daniels' sophomore release with The Village. Composed entirely of original tunes, Grandiose showcases the talents of Devin as well as a crew of young west coast all-stars: Logan Kane on bass, Myles Martin on drums, and Javier Santiago on keys. Logan was present on Devin's first excursion with The Village, Trio Expeditions. Myles is a frequent collaborator and a staple in premiere LA rhythm sections. Javier and Devin met while attending the Herbie Hancock Institute at UCLA.
Right after graduating from the institute, Devin toured with Herbie Hancock and found himself to be the youngest player on legendary stages including the Hollywood Bowl and Walt Disney Hall. Together, the quartet explores grooves, odd-time signatures, post-bop blues, and synthy ambient textures, all pushing each other's boundaries with a sense of freedom and urgency.
