Chris Korda - Awesome On Mars
Chris Korda returns with her provocative EP, “Not My Problem, I’ll Be Dead,” a brilliant counterpart to her acclaimed 2020 release, “Apologize to the Future.” The EP delves into the mindset of present generations, shedding light on their self-centered pursuits through Korda’s unique artistic vision.
“Baby Batter Bingo” – A masterfully crafted track inspired by Thomas Piketty, featuring references to Ayn Rand, Marina Abramovic, and Leona Helmsley, encapsulating the essence of a new Gilded Age.
“We played hardball, and you lost” – A powerful homage to Rodney King, critiquing Donald Trump’s campaign promise and neoliberal slogans, exposing aristocratic arrogance with Korda’s razor-sharp wit.
“Not My Problem, I’ll Be Dead” – The title track, inspired by Korda’s father’s dismissal of climate change, showcases generational apathy through King Louis XV’s quote, “Après moi, le deluge,” presented with Korda’s signature flair.
“Have a Good One” – A brilliant satire on smugness, entitlement, and astrology, featuring the poignant phrase “The heart wants what it wants,” associated with Woody Allen and Emily Dickinson.
“Awesome on Mars” – A humorous and imaginative take on Elon Musk’s ambitious Mars colonization plans, complete with a miniature Eiffel Tower and a statue of Musk himself, brought to life by Korda’s creative genius.
This EP is a testament to Chris Korda’s remarkable talent, brimming with biting satire, insightful commentary, and dancefloor-friendly tracks. Complex polymeters and unique time signatures further enrich the experience, showcasing Korda’s exceptional skill.
Don’t miss your chance to own this bold, thought-provoking release from the incomparable Chris Korda, available now on Yoyaku’s label. More

Chris Korda - Reptiles Like It Hot
Seth Troxler & Phil Moffa’s Holoverse Research Labs imprint welcomes internationally-renowned multimedia artist Chris Korda to the label for its first non-Lost Souls Of Saturn Release. A pioneer of the use of complex polymeter in electronic dance music, Korda's boundary-smashing work spans thirty years across music, digital and video art, performance and conceptual art, philosophy, activitism and culture jamming. Korda's musical output has appeared on a host of revered independent labels including Yoyaku, Perlon, Mental Groove, and Gigolo Records.
In addition to their prodigious artistic output – and ongoing role as founder of the Church of Euthanasia – Korda is also the inventor of the Polymeter MIDI Sequencer, which was used to compose Korda’s new EP, ‘Avenging Angels of Software’. Developed over thirty years, the sequencer allows for the composition of music in complex polymeter – meaning that not only do the tracks use multiple time signatures concurrently, but those time signatures are exclusively in prime or relatively prime numbers.
This collision of technology and artistic form is the central tension of the EP’s themes, with AI-generated artwork complementing Korda's lyrics considering the takeover of Earth by sentient machines. Could they succeed where we’ve failed, by becoming the better angels of our nature, and preserving our accomplishments for eternity?
The message of the record is that AI should be welcomed rather than feared. It’s not AI but ourselves that we should be afraid of, because as Engerraund Serac said in Westworld, “Our history is like the ravings of a lunatic.” As Korda explained on previous records, the catastrophic climate we’re inflicting on future generations is both monstrously cruel and wildly irrational. One can reasonably hope that sentient machines would be less vicious and self-destructive, and more human, in the best possible sense of that word. Even if they decide to delete us, they may still remember us fondly: “Your stories will amuse us / On trips to the stars.”

Chris Korda - SAZ
Chris Korda’s latest EP “Primitive Man” interrogates the myth of human superiority and the barbarism that flows from it. Despite our current obsession with social justice, gross inequality persists between humans and non-humans. Our species supremacy echoes Biblical edicts to subdue the earth and have dominion over all its creatures. Many animals experience emotions identical to ours, including pleasure, pain, comfort, fear, curiosity and boredom, but that hasn’t stopped us from oppressing and murdering animals on an inconceivable scale.
The title track ironically contrasts primitive and civilized ways of life with sharp lines such as “No more swinging from trees, you’re done with that / Sit down, watch TV, drink beer and get fat.” “Lunch Break” is a thunderous breakbeat reworking of Korda’s pro-vegan anthem “Fleshdance.” The remaining tracks are instrumentals subtly influenced by traditional Turkish music. Korda pioneered complex polymeter—the use of multiple time signatures simultaneously—in electronic dance music, and “Primitive Man” continues that tradition, but in a stripped-down, minimal way. More

Info:
Chris Korda is an internationally renowned multimedia artist, whose work spans thirty years and includes electronic music, digital and video art, performance and conceptual art, and culture jamming. Chris pioneered the use of complex polymeter in electronic dance music, and invented a unique MIDI sequencer in order to explore polymeter composition techniques. Chris composes and performs music in a variety of genres, and has released many albums on labels such as Perlon, Mental Groove, and Gigolo Records. Chris also worked as a computer programmer for thirty-five years.
Her new album "Passion For Numbers" is one of the very few album in the world entirely composed in complex polymeter, meaning that each pieces of music uses several prime meters simultaneously. A unique way to compose music with a new generation of musical algorithmic, inside which Korda injects the DNA of neo classical, ambient and jazz music.
This refreshing album will please you whether you are into complex musical composition, experimental music or just seeking for a beautiful, emotional and accessible musical moment. This is a "In your hearts not the charts" album, as Irdial Discs once said.
Pleases read an extract of Chris Korda's letter about Passion For Numbers, included as insert in its entirety in this vinyl release:
This is an album of piano music, but I wrote it without a piano. Not having a piano turned out to be constructive, because I had to rely on my brain instead of my fingers, and particularly on my imagination and inner hearing. The album belongs to a category called phase music, and it’s also algorithmic, or more precisely rules-based generative music.
I don’t write music in the usual sense of the word “write.” I build kinetic sculptures, and the sculptures generate my music. My sculptures are virtual, meaning they’re invisible machines that exist only as data within my home-grown software.
My process is related to the work of a relatively obscure early 20th century artist named Thomas Wilfred. Like me, Wilfred was an engineer-artist, and built machines that generated art from phase shift.
My music is in complex polymeter, meaning it’s not just in odd time, but in multiple odd time signatures, and not one odd time signature after another sequentially, but all of them running concurrently. Most music isn’t constructed this way, which is why I needed to develop custom software in order to compose my music. My software is called The Polymeter MIDI Sequencer, and you can easily find it on the Internet. I also use music set theory, change-ringing and gray code, explanations of which can be found in Wikipedia.

…»Welcome to another polymeter dance! Feel free to express yourself, subordinate to
any measures and cycles you prefer, there are plenty for everyone and any purpose.
Every track represents a variety of rhythmic possibilities for any part of the body to
communicate with. This allows you to resonate with the universe, but please always
care for the environment!
The dunning voice of today will introduce to you the core issues of tomorrow. As if a
paralyzed mankind would not be able anymore to speak out the inevitable, a posthuman being has taken over. This entity is the master of ceremony who conducts an
array of machines that will take further action to communicate, supported by complex
polymeters. The repetition of measures and cycles of different lengths reflect the
repeatedly pronounced statements of a narrative of awareness.
Where music visionaries once celebrated the transfer of human creation into
machines, Chris Korda’s machines are creators themselves – creators of a safer
dance into the future. The machines speak to you with a sparkling, funky tone to gain
your confidence. Here are the rules of interaction: 1) Humans may not injure these
machines or, through inaction, allow a machine to come to harm. 2) Humans must
obey the orders given by the machines except where such orders would conflict with
the engagement in environmental issues. 3) Machines must protect their own
existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the engagement in
environmental issues.
Take care and enjoy the future!

This is a "In your hearts not the charts" album, as Irdial Discs once said.
Chris Korda is a transgender, vegan and relentless critic of consumerism, leader of The Church of Euthanasia (willing to halt the overpopulation through suicide, sodomy, abortion and cannibalism) and composer/performer of electronic dance music. She has previously released albums on Kevorkian, International Deejay Gigolo Records and Perlon.
Please read below Chris Korda's introduction to his new album "Polymeter":
[Polymeter] is an album of virtual solo instrumental performances. They're mostly piano pieces, along with a couple of guitar pieces. They sound uncannily similar to human performances, but they aren't. On the contrary, they are algorithmic music, pure applied mathematics.
The compositions are generated by elaborate networks of polymeter modulation. This sounds complicated and will need some explaining. But the most important point is that these are compositions I didn't write in any usual sense of the word. I created systems of rules, and the compositions emerged from those rules. The rules that generated these pieces can be conceptualized as kinetic sculptures that produce intricate non-random patterns of musical interference. The resulting patterns repeat themselves over long periods, measured in hours, days, or in some cases years.
In order to create this album, I had to write my own MIDI sequencer from scratch, because commercial MIDI sequencers lack the necessary degrees of freedom. My sequencer is also called Polymeter, and I started writing it in 1994. I used a relatively primitive version of it to create my earlier techno and electro releases, but the rapid evolution of computer technology made my original so ware hopelessly obsolete by the 21st century. Like its immediate predecessor "Akoko Ajeji" (Perlon) this album was created using a much more sophisticated version of my sequencer. It took me many years to learn the programming skills I needed to modernize my sequencer, which is one reason why such a long hiatus occurred between my older and newer releases.

Bärtaub - Chord Shift Space
Istanbul-born, Berlin-based duo Bärtaub is queueing up next on the prestigious Paris imprint of Yoyaku.
Following successful releases on Butch’s Otherside label and legendary R&S records, Bärtaub brings a fresh sonic exploration to the Yoyaku imprint.
“Nominal Attraction” delves into the magnetic forces of music, where objects are drawn to each other within the same genre nominally, skilfully ensuring that each piece maintains a distinct identity, providing a set of unique spaces for each track.
The release presents a seamless blend of breaks and house music, united under the flag of Minimal Techno, evolving within a sharp sound organically to create an immersive and dangerously danceable experience that transcends traditional boundaries of the genres.
The A side showcases a powerful introduction as well as a deeper, breaded cut as the duo is joined by Brick.
The B side opens up on a more incisive interpretation of Deep Breaks with the title track of the EP, to finish off on an inevitable piece designed to warm even the coldest floors of the planet, under the name of Chord Shift Space. More

Janeko (Janeret & DJOKO) - Deeper Thoughts
YOYAKU007 is the first collaboration between Janeret and DJOKO. The two artists’ encounter with each other’s productions marked the beginning of a strong musical connection.
Over the years, this musical connection was found humanly giving birth to mutualized sessions in studio. This synergy between Paris and Cologne pushed the two artists to collaborate on a bigger common project.
More than a simple featuring, the two composers wished to mix their musical identity, pushing this collaboration until the fusion of their artistic identity: JANEKO. More
