Accomplished UK mainstay J1Mi launches the long awaited Beyonders label with a fantastic first EP that captures the eclectic nature of his sound. J1mi aka James Hadfield has been making all manner of sounds for years - both solo and as one half of Lizards - from house to disco, Balearic to techno, and always on revered labels like MeMeMe, Not An Animal, Leng, Futureboogie and Phonica. He is part of the Beyonders collective that was started by Jason and Mark Goodings of 90’s pioneering breaks and drum and bass duo Hidden Agenda. The collective is now back after a hiatus following Mark's tragic passing in 2016 and is as fruitful as ever with members including James as well as Mal Sharp and Nick Grimes and now a new label.The brilliant 'Sixes Now' has a menacing synth screwing about the mix before percussive grooves and elastic bass arrive to lock you into a dark disco groove full of menace and suspense. The thumping 'Modern Maze' is another hugely inventive sound with rickety rhythms, erotic vocal coos and wiry synths. A bewitching breakdown brings acoustic guitars and places the vocal front and centre before the punchy house kicks come back once more. 'Desire' featuring Crazy P vocalist Danielle Moore is an indie disco cut with jazzy chords and playful funk riffs that lift the spirits and cruise on smooth grooves. Closer 'Japanese Kipling' is a prickly brew with off-grid hots and vocal sounds, distant hits of melody and dubby rhythms that are wonderfully intoxicating. This standout first EP very much sets the scene for what is sure to be a crucial UK

Casino Times debut on Stamp Records with four carefully diced grooves.

With acid-tinged disco and house-infused jazz on the A side, and not one but two tributes to Austropop on the B, the duo show-off both their eclectic tastes and loose approach to crafting an edit.

Much like the style established by the Casino Edits series,'Enough Acid' is a disco excursion that rolls with lively organic percussion, funked up guitar, singing strings and a meaty analogue acid bass line.
Perfectly timed piano breaks pays homage to the monstrous source material, creating an abundance of dancefloor drama...

'The Glow (Estate)' achieves the seemingly unfeasible; an enchanting jazz sample is seamlessly arranged across a tight drum groove creating rich, soulful rhythms. At points the track seems to take flight to create space for a tender vocal hook, fascinating for both diggers and dancers alike.

Flipping to the other side, Casino Times go all in with a tribute to Austropop, with two stripped back new wave and punk inspired cuts. 'Gaze Into The Future' shakes bodies and pushes the bass bins to the limit, with the sound of a siren letting us know it's time to report to the dancefloor.
Its counterpart 'Overly Dramatic' lives up to its name - a jaunty slap bass groove bounces away underneath roaring synthetic atmospheres, sporadically launching into bellowing choral hits that'll make your head spin.

"Detroit Stories" is the name of this cool social project happening in Motorcity, USA, aka Detroit. Check it out at soundcloud.com/detroit-stories. It's a rad way to capture and show off the history and present of the city and its peeps. They're doing it by interviewing OG residents and immigrants from way back, the ones who lived through all the ups and downs of the Motor City. You've got stories of good times, hard work, opportunities, but also struggles, violence, and social movements that shaped Detroit's rise and slow fall. This city's always had a lot to offer in terms of music, culture, and beyond.

And guess what? DJ and producer Luca Fronza gets in on the action, finding some of those interview podcasts. He's turning their stories, the vocals, and speeches into some killer beats, with the distinctive motorcity raw house touch that we absolutely love here at Flexi. And to top it off, you've got a remix by the master himself, Prins Thomas! It's gonna be lit!

Hi-NRG synth pioneer Patrick Cowley moved away from his usual robotic steeliness on 1982’s “Primitive World,” drawing instead on the groove rock of early 1970s gay discos. It’s a percussion track influenced by Baba- tunde Olatunji’s 1959 hit “Jin-Go-Lo-Ba,” made more famous by Santana’s 1969 cover. Cowley updated the sound for the 1980s with electronics and drum machines but kept the playful attitude of the original. Two choirs of voices chant back and forth to each other, giving Cowley a chance to include many of his friends from the San Francisco dance music community. This has been DJ Hifi Sean’s year, with a best-selling album with David McAlmont , count- less live gigs and high-profile remixes to his name. His interpretation of Cowley’s “Primitive World” can be counted among his best, bringing an intense TB-303 acid house vibe that perfectly complements Cowley’s weird electronic blips and bleeps. The effect is a disorienting mix of psychedelic 70’s groove, 80s synth pop, and 90s tacky house vibes. “Primitive World,” is one of the brilliant standouts on Cowley’s final record, Mind Warp, the so-called “death album” written as his health was rapidly sinking. Hifi Sean’s new remixes pay tribute to Cowley’s genius while fusing the track even more strongly to dance music’s electronic future.

Harri Pierson bangs the box with his new EP for Duca Bianco, a full thrill mix of disco and house sounds that want to get the party going. 'Instant Message' has a dense mix of raw drum sounds and squelchy synths with interesting melodic designs and steamy female coos. 'Techno Native' is laced up with piano stabs and a hint of old school energy then 'Trippy Too' cuts loose with a head-twisting mix of drums and whistles and bass and pads. 'Young Australians' then brings some big guitar licks to a Balearic beat that is for dancing under the stars. All four of these cuts are unique and compelling.

Since emerging in the scene, Rambal Cochet has ably demonstrated his instinct for different approaches, whether exploring expansive sonic palettes or holding down stages where he has performed. Throughout his career, this DJ, producer and versatil music curator, turned his capable hand into a truly immersive listening experience.

Dolphin’s Dance is an uplifting music journey, with a flavour of the good old prog sound and a dreamy atmosphere. The narrative flow in Twisted Reality and Virtual Nightmare use contrasting ecosystems to glide through distinctive spaces, unfolding with darker vibes infused with style sounds, as in Yello’s 90’s album “Pocket Universe”. At times the effect is nostalgic, calling to mind pulsating rhythms, bass lines and hypnotic melodies.

Rambal Cochet shows again an exceptional talent for producing high-level dance music. An exquisite—3 rhythmic and stimulating club jams to be savoured and absorbed in ALZ05.
