This EP perfectly encapsulates the US duo's vision to challenge the conventions and boundaries of what defined house music throughout the late 90's. First up, 'Tubes for Allah', is characterised by heavy driving bass and sub-aquatic sonics. Out of print for over 20 years this track is slightly more restrained, the dub bass-line interplays with a hypnotising and unforgettable organ riff, until deftly programmed chords send the track off on a remarkable late night mission, with no less energy and atmosphere than its predecessor. On the flip, 'Beat Dis', is one of Adam & Marky's most highly revered and well-known productions in all it's full glory. Opening with a wailing guitar, this broken, breakbeat Tech-House masterclass, builds with an incessant acidic bass, there's additional percussive effects and a repetitive vocal to keep the track moving but it's those sparse beats and bottom end that are the hook, a perfect example of how 'less is more' can be so effective. This track became such a firm favourite with Craig Richards & Lee Burridge that they included it on the 2nd instalment of their Tyrant compilations. These now-infamous studio sessions were fueled by keg stands, mountains of pre-legal weed, and intensive striped bass fishing expeditions in the world-renowned Long Island Sound (not a micro-genre). Facilitated by legendary DJ/Producer Alexi Delano and NYC label/Record Store Sonic Groove, this highly anticipated collaboration was originally released in 1997 to much dancefloor and critical acclaim, and grew to legendary status in the following years. Bunker Scraper (Omni A.M. Mix) opens proceedings, tight, infectious percussion underpins a deep rich b-line, while eerie synths interplay over the top, it's no wonder this track has become a staple in the sets of Villalobos and Raresh over the decades. Next up, 'In My Time of Flying' was a staple of Omni AM’s early post-Key live performances, swinging percussion, heavy bass and an addictive chanted vocal reflects the duo’s departure from ambient techno and shift towards more dj-friendly four-on-floor grooves. Written in Chicago (1996 or 97), it was performed and recorded live, straight to DAT, outdoors in the forests of Northern Michigan – all in one take, no edits, no overdubs. This bold production style was typical of Omni AM who began life as a live PA. Over on the flip Casey Hogan's mix of Bunker Scraper picks up the pace with rolling bass shaking percussion, whilst retaining many of the original's parts and character. Lastly this gem of an ep has been further enhanced by the inclusion of additional, never released before versions, most notably 'In My Time of Flying' (Live at Sassy...ss 1998), another special live jam, recorded at an unforgettable Winter rave that takes the track into whole new otherworldly dimension. A very limited amount of CDs were pressed and sold exclusively at Euphoria events throughout Chicago at the time, and with Omni A.M. and Euphoria's stock rising over the following decades, this timeless classic has become a Holy Grail amongst music heads and collectors alike, as the eye watering discogs prices will attest. Pavel Milyakov, AKA Buttechno, coming through with the kind of impeccably-produced, trance-inducing deftness we've come to expect.

A kindred spirit of the Oyster Cult, this is a union long overdue. While he’s often found working in horizontal zones, inhabiting the intersection between ambient and downtempo, these are dancefloor dynamics for pure contemplation. Gone is the amorphous abstraction of releases like ‘PSY X’ and the kind output reserved for release under his birth name, instead opting for a lean, hypnotic kind of minimalism.

‘OYSTER57’ picks up where the ‘Inorganic Demons’ LP and aptly-titled ‘Minimal Cuts’ series left off. Saying that, the first three tracks navigate territory gloomier than the aforementioned; uneasy at times but deeply engrossing, smudged and frayed into heads-down interzones of tunnelling throb and icy melodic flourish. Girder-strength pressure primed for metaphysical experience.

Then, like a vestige of the finest turn-of-the-century progressive trance, ’bleeps’ ends proceedings on a slight departure. A showcase of restraint from the Berlin-based maestro and a fitting way to close. More

Repress!

One record which has lately come to prominence is the brilliant "After Hours" by Charlie Mitchell aka Vic Marcel on an absolutely gorgeous slice of mellow Rare-Groove which recalls the Leon Ware vibe perfectly. Produced and arranged by seasoned veterans Tony Silvester and Bert DeCoteaux this incredibly hypnotic song was also written by top writers J.R. Bailey and Ken Williams. "After Hours" has grown in popularity particularly over the last few years with original copies now reaching the £200-£250 valuation.

The flip-side is another slice of beautiful mid-tempo soul from the same production stable. Only one copy currently available the last time we checked, such has been the demand over the last two years especially. Quite why this record has been underground for so long is open to debate. Vic Marcel was under contract to RCA at the time hence the Charlie Mitchell pseudonym. Janus were also suffering distribution problems at the time which explains why the original is so rare. We're proud to finally make this available again on the original Janus imprint. Another double-sided beauty. More
