Repress!
The collectable Artifact imprint is taking a detour from incendiary and obscure disco re-issues into releasing even more obscure material. Mysterious Italian electro-wave band Cristalli Liquidi are featured here with a killer rare italo gem produced by Tinto B. (also known for Robots Are Un-American, re-released on Italians Do It Better last year). Inspired by a LCD Soundsystem song Tinto B. comes with this great record! We cant find the connection to the LCD Soundsystem track that supposed to have been his source of inspiration, and actually we dont care... its some of the best recent Italo disco we've heard in a while! If you are big on italo vocals the A side is for you, if instead you dig deep electro disco but without the chanting, the dub version on the flip side will more than certainly send you into italo space. Another hot Artifact release from mr. Bottin. Tip! (Limited supplies!) More

Bottin brings us this juicy Artifact 4-tracker in super-limited-quantities. Dulce De Luna is an acid disco weapon with some sabor latino. Volver Al Campo is a psychedelic cosmic ritual chant (sounds like Adriano Celentano maxi-dosing mushrooms in the Italian countryside). El Caballero Oscuro serves as the main theme from John Carpenter's space-horror flick shot in the extraterrestrial jungle (only he didn't make that movie, yet) - Finally, we get a slab of low-hip high-energy madness for hardcore Italo heads (those who want the hypnotic synth machinery, not the demented vocals) - Get this quick before the usual discogs price bump

Cristalli Liquidi With Deux Control - Rosso Carnale (Deux Control Dub)
After whetting our appetites with the new italo "classic" Volevi Una Hit repress, Bottin and his Cristalli Liquidi project team up with the French-Italiano electro pair Deux Control (aka Justine Forever & Rodion) for a double take of this sweaty song about the colour red and the gentle carnal forces of nature. You might want to pick up some Italian to enjoy the lyrics. Along with two entirely different main versions, Bottin's sped-up dub and Deux Control's vocally sparse mix will serve electro-funk heads and low-cheese/high-energy italo lovers alike.

Bottin Presents: Quality Time - SD1 Il Sogno Di Una Cosa
Bottin is back with LP an unusual album: an instrumental album of faux "Library Music" aptly titled QUALITY TIME. Searching for a virginal sound rolling back to the zero degree in contemporary music, Quality Time explores the sonic range of 1980s era Casiotone portable synthesizer as is, with no filters or additional timbres modifying its sound aesthetics. An exercise in composition where the reduced plasticity of sound makes us imagine music as building bricks, rather than a commentary of the times. Quality Time is Library Music made out of sheer intellectual honesty, as opposed to the anonimity of producing music as a commodity. The Casiotone alphabet allows Bottin to assemble seductive instrumental tracks marked by alpha-numeric acronyms and interspersed with sourced fragments of dialogues recalling the contemporary existential alienation and postmodern idleness.

Bottin teams up with Francisco (Jolly Music, L.U.C.A.) for a drugged-out, sexed up, slo-mo psych-rock aptly titled LOVE LIFE. Old acquaintance Rodion steps in on remix duties, working deranged synth magic in the extended dj version. On the flipside, Argentina's Fernando Pulichino (2020 Soundsystem, Silver City) joins in with his flamboyant bass and shimmering guitars on DELTA TIGRE, an afro-cosmic sound contraption. The IchiSan remix heads up to the sky, all the way to synth heaven. Overall a compelling, throbbing disco-not-disco EP for adventurous djs and dancers in-the-know, who want to hear something different and juicy.

Italian weirdologist Bottin strikes again with another private pressing for Artifact Records. Side A starts off with an edit of a super rare italo-electro utterance, perfect for your breakdancing. A2 is Italian new wave, replete with passionate lyrics and funk guitars. B1 is a collab with balearic legend Leo Mas: Italian freestyle with a hint of new beat, isn't it? The closing cut is the weirdest of the bunch: trippy strings and & arps, throat singing & ecstatic chanting all around. Hot, hot, hot and limited as a night train on a holiday weekend.

Bottin - 1 RESPIRARE

Bottin - 2 WATERLAND
One of Italy's most revered producers on the global scene, Bottin is always ready with an invigorating palette of sounds and rhythms that stem from his endless thirst for invention. This new release continues that diverse legacy with Balearic-infused pair of Italo cuts. "Waterland," is a buoyant disco number. Its bass ebbs and flows with wave-like consistency, polyrhythmic drums percolate beneath, creating a type of suspended animation that propels motion with a tempered energy. The slow-burning crescendo of Respirare' begins with an airtight blend of tick-tock rhythm and minimal then the pace picks up and the synths pile on. Bottin takes the blissed-out enchantment of the Balearic and infuses it with the kinesis of Italo without the music losing its easy-breeze stride.

After a long break (6 years!) mysterious ARTIFACT label is back with a new private pressing of juicy Bottin re-edits. Fist off, "Domenica" is an upbeat synthesizer disco number, complete with happy chanting and funny instrumental hooks. Second track "Cha Cha Cha" leans towards Italian new wave, with English, French and Spanish vocals. Maybe what Tom Tom Club could have sounded like - if they were from Milan. Side B starts with a thick, throbbing funk groove "Chico Train", topped by hilarious narration of a surreal train ride to, station to station. The closing number "Vital Grace" is a dark, sexy disco thing, with lush female vocals and over-the-top strings. As often in all things Bottin, this EP is all-Italian affair - Vinyl-only and very limited quantities as usual.

Mysterious ensemble CRISTALLI LIQUIDI are back on Artifact with their second single. This is another all-Italian new wave affair entitled CANZONE REGISTRATA (Recorded Song). In addition to the juicy extended and dub versions we have remix duties aptly carried out by the Florentine godfather of italo disco ALEXANDER ROBOTNICK and Milanese dream-team LE MACCHINE (consisting of The Love Supreme & The Barking Dogs) who deliver a killer retro house (or maybe nu-new-beat?) remix ready to break the toughest dancefloor like an ice pick. After selling out all previous releases to elite djs and collectors worldwide, the highly mysterius Artifact imprint is back to its original aim, that is crafting obscure sonic weapons for disco ninjas! A side 15 Minutes is credited to Milanese crew Love Supreme and it's a mesmerizing disco rock rework that builds up to a climax that takes no prisoners. Bottin has been playing this to massive dancefloor slaughter and has finally decided to share the blame. On the flipside Speed is an enthralling car chase or grand prix if you wish, with throbbing bass, lasers and Cowley-esque synth stabs, while Frisbee is a rare italo groove, a funk gimmick topped by acid synth patterns, a latin lover voiceover and packs of sultry Italian girls chanting ''disco! disco!'' and definity getting what they are craving for. Limited to 200 on haute couture purple latex, ready for you to wear out (if your size is 12'', that is)

2
Rhye - The Fall
Format Notes: 2024 first-time vinyl reissue, 140g vinyl, mastered by Simon Francis
Track List:
A1 The Fall (Maurice Fulton Remix)
B1 The Fall
Release Notes:
Maurice Fulton's outrageous remix of "The Fall" by Rhye has been cherished as a stone-cold masterpiece for the past decade. Out of print almost immediately, its legend has only grown and for too long it's been impossible to find a copy without parting with considerable cash. We've wanted to remedy this situation for years so we're delighted to announce that we've finally given it the Be With treatment.
The word ‘genius’ is bandied about liberally but it's fair to anoint Maurice Fulton with such lofty praise. Sheffield’s king of oddball disco, Fulton is one of our favourite artists, an outerspace-minded producer with roots in Baltimore club music who has no problem injecting dank interplanetary funk into the smoothest of acts. And so it goes with his remix of "The Fall". Rich and typically off-kilter, this is spellbinding disco par excellance. Fulton arms the track with a juddering electro-funk synth-bassline before shifting to a twanging disco reverb and conga-led, crash-cymbal-elevated groove.
Essential doesn't even cover it; it's just astonishingly good.
The gorgeous original, situated here on the flip, is a sublime serenade, all twinkling strings and sweet, sumptuous vocals over smooth, jazzy piano styles. It earned comparisons to Sade, Air and the xx upon initial release and it's still easy to understand why; it's warm and buoyant yet deeply melancholy. Elegantly downlifting, you could say.
Simon Francis remastered the original audio for both tracks and Cicely Balston's precise cut for Alchemy at AIR Studios ensures this 12" well and truly slaps. The immaculate Record Industry pressing will ensure this incredibly sought-after masterpiece finds a home in many more DJ boxes this and every year.

Nu Genea - La Crisi
Four years after Nuova Napoli, Nu Genea are back with Bar Mediterraneo, a new album and journey, which projects the
sounds of the Neapolitan duo formed by Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina even further.
Nu Genea's Bar Mediterraneo is an idea of a shared place where people meet and fuse together; a space that leaves its
doors open to travellers and their lives, always exposed to the whims of fate. Some of this can be experienced through the
multitude of sounds that come together in the tracks, layers of different acoustic instruments, voices and synthesizers
merging in a unique musical blend.
Opening up to the voices of many different people, separated by languages but united by the sea and the music, Nu
Genea's hometown, Napoli, becomes a true place of encounter.
You can hear this all along. In "Gelbi", a gorgeously deep and propulsive Ney flute plunges into murky waters of the
melancholic Tunisian dialect sung by Marzouk Mejri. In "Marechia'", unbridled happiness and sun ooze from the delicate
vocals of Célia Kameni and create an acrobatic bridge between French and Neapolitan language. In "Straniero", your
soul is arrested from the moment the slow spell-binding mandolin ignites the hypnotic patterns recorded by the legendary
Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen. In "Bar Mediterraneo", the title track, bittersweet guitar’s riffs, analog waves and choirs are
overwhelming the song giving you what you would like to hear on a boat trip along the Amalfi Coast.
Nu Genea couldn't afford to overlook their firmly anchored roots into the Neapolitan culture and its dialect with "Tienaté",
where the power of neapolitan language (interpreted by Fabiana Martone) supports those quarter-tone strings and the
uncessant folk-disco groove that spreads to the entire song. In "Praja Magia", repetitive mandolin riffs lead the song,
giving space to a choral yet tight vocal line that speaks of Varcaturo, a village close to Napoli. In "Rire", a volley of poetic,
deceptively laidback, lyrical fury interpreted by Sicilian Marco Castello intimately combines with a highly musical, multitextured
instrumental backbone and the swoon of a chanson in its heart. In "La Crisi'', the lyrics of a Raffaele Viviani’s
poem from 1930 have been adapted to a laidback jazz-funk groove in full NG style. In "Vesuvio", revaluing the evocative
verses and powerful mantra of Vesuvio, Nu Genea re-adapted to the dancefloor a folk song by the working-class band E’
Zezi from Pomigliano D'Arco, combining the voices of a school choir with Jupiter-6 arpeggios and bold percussions.
Bar Mediterraneo is the place where people constantly return to transform curiosity into participation, tradition into
sharing, unfamiliar into familiar. When travellers come through its “doors”, carrying their treasures of words and emotions,
they aren’t strangers any more. They take part in a shared experience, enriching themselves and others by leading to
unexpected musical journeys.

Vecchio's Afro-Rock is one big horn-heavy, bass-blasting, Latin groove funk-rock party. Only now, you're all invited because this, ladies and gentleman, is officially...a grail no more. With copies currently starting at 400 Euros for an original, this beautifully presented reissue, part of Be With's fresh campaign with Music De Wolfe, is well overdue. A magnificent and somewhat obscure library set that's just a total, cohesive joy from start to finish, this here is the soundtrack to all your smokin' summer BBQs and communal cookouts.
Afro-Rock is the debut album by Argentine keyboardist Luis Vecchio. Recorded for the sound library label De Wolfe, the album is frequently mentioned in hushed reverence among the beat digger DJ collecting crowd. It features fiery brass charts, funky bass lines, fluttering flute, choppy organ and additional hand tribal percussion. The band let loose too and jam hard; yet there's a certain thread of solidity that runs throughout, the tracks just belong together, not disparate sound and rhythm experiments like some library records; this is just straight up, no messin', consistent funk-rock FIRE! Hips will sway, heads will nod to the steady vibes. It's insanely good.
The humid, building funk of the appropriately titled "Megaton" is a dramatic explosion of swirling, dazzling organ lines, ferocious beats and heavy horns throughout. It just don't stop. The tempo slows slightly for the deep and deeply addictive "Renegade". It's all heavy jazz horn refrains, always triumphant, coupled with devastating percussive breakdowns and killer guitar riffing. It's an insistent organ-led juggernaut. The frenetic "Facade", up next, is no less driving, horns high up in the mix over rattling percussion and brilliant organs lines. Just sensational. The bright "Chabati" is another glorious extension of the optimistic Vecchio sound, the organs wilder than ever before. The moody "Green Hell" is a real highlight and closes out the A-Side with some outrageously funky refrains - be it horns, organ or guitars - and is complimented by gorgeous flute work that galvanises the piece, elevating it to downright heavenly status.
Knowing full well that he's on to a surefire thing, Vecchio opens the flipside in much the same vein. Indeed, "Boss" is yet another uptempo highlight, a sensual orgy of proud horns, hand percussion and melodic flute playing over driving organ and guitars. It's followed by "Nsambei", which is rightly adored for its briefly open drum break, fantastically propulsive percussion breakdowns throughout and the jazzy, loose organ and guitar shreds. The bright "Waboco" ups the tempo and the pressure, hanging on one hell of a guitar hook and infectious horn refrain. Perhaps foreseeing how this album would come to be viewed, the aptly-titled "Cult" is possibly the finest song on the record. Which is saying something, because this record is insanely good. Riding a steady, confident organ groove straight out the gate, the kinda melancholic flute line over the top serves as a beautiful counterpoint which the horns often come in and imitate/riff off. Goddamn this is so so good, it needs to be played everywhere. The overwhelmingly mighty 7-minute jam "Ngoma-ku" rounds out this quite staggering record brilliantly in its heavy, mid-tempo blues with countless extended solos.
The audio for Afro Rock has been meticulously remastered by Be With regular Simon Francis, ensuring this release sounds better than ever. Cicely Balston's expert skills have made sure nothing is lost in the cut whilst the records have been pressed to the highest possible standard at Record Industry in Holland. The original, iconic sleeve has been restored here at Be With HQ as the finishing touch to this long overdue re-issue. More
