Back by high demand is Cologne's house connoisseur DJOKO with his third Shall Not Fade release - a feel-good 4-tracker which occupies the most uplifting intersection of piano house, cosmic disco and funk. Following the highly-acclaimed 2-step-infused Hooked EP and the deeper, more bass-driven Ventura EP which followed, DJOKO further flaunts his expansive versatility on his latest release.

Setting the tone is the title track's sunny pads which lead us to a long build up before an ecstatic climax - a true floor-filler. Next up "Take Me Back" is truly unique, with the dynamism of bongos and a hi-frequency melody that sounds as though it's come straight from Yellow Magic Orchestra's synths, constituting just one element of the track's luxurious and richly-layered cosmic soundscape.

"Odyssey" continues in the same extraterrestrial vein, this time adding euphoric piano chords and poppy vocals into the mix. Finally, "Lost in Time" eases the EP to a close as full-bodied pads are swapped out to make way for a funk-infused bassline and the teasing of vocals which whisper sutrily underneath classy piano tinkles.

DJOKO is a fast-rising star of the German scene, a stalwart for house music in the techno-oriented country, pushing funk influenced danceable beats that have seen him become a best-seller. Hot off a recent EP on Berg Audio, DJOKO is returning to Shall Not Fade for a second record - after the phenomenal success of 2020's Hooked, this one is long-awaited.

Ventura EP is an exhibition of DJOKO's skill, tight and groovy house cuts that beg to be played all summer. Kicking off with a hazy gentle burner in "Morning Wonders", he serves up laid-back pads glittering with a funky dance pop organ - a summer track that is flipped and darkened in Leo Pol's remix, adding a firmer rhythm and growling sub bass; the night-time's answer to this day party number. The title track exemplifies DJOKO's fresh take on house music, carefully blending retro samples - crooning disco vocals and organic bass - with a soaring futuristic sound palette into a sublime high-class groove. Now he follows this up with his first full Happiness Therapy EP in Just At Night. Dele Sosimi, the Nigerian-British Afrobeat Ambassador, Musician and Educator, has been at the heart of the global Afrobeat scene since relocating to the UK in December 1995. Having started his musical career with Fela's Egypt 80 band in his teens, he then teamed up with childhood friend Fela's son Femi Kuti (back in the late eighties) to kick-start the Positive Force - touring, recording and performing worldwide. Over forty years later, he remains a tireless ambassador for the unique musical movement all over the world. His blend of complex funk grooves, traditional Nigerian music, African percussion and an underlying sense of jazz combines with his virtuoso keyboard skills and rhythmic singing to make him one of the most respected Afrobeat authorities of his era.

Dele is a master of various live configurations, each offering a truly authentic and powerful Afrobeat sound and keeps him active. These days, his mesmeric performances are mainly with the full eight to fifteen-piece Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra (DSAO), a distilled six or seven-piece Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Experience (DSAE) and the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Sextet, Quintet & Quartet which features the heartbeat of DSAO in a semi acoustic format with Dele on piano alongside Suman Joshi on Double Bass, Afla Sackey on Congas/percussion and Kunle Olofinjana on Drums.

"The love and passion I have for composing, writing, performing and teaching Afrobeat Music is my main motivation," says Dele, adding; "my aim is to build upon the rich heritage of music worldwide by creating opportunities for young people to learn. I want them to experience Afrobeat forms of music and music-making activities that will expand knowledge and broaden the horizons of the musicians, young or old.

Turbulent Times, the Joaquin Joe Claussell Remixes, were actually created over 10 years ago. But this is not all that surprising if you are one those who have inside knowledge of his production habits; Truth is, Joaquin's productions are created 5 years ahead of their actual release. What's most interesting now, however, is the timing of this release. Having recently gone through a few years of extremes, not least of a global pandemic, instigating more confusion and chaos, these series of remixes are right on time, and the original album version is way ahead of its time. Jesse Bru joins forces with Max Ulis this April for the collaborative ‘Similar Nature’ EP, comprising five original cuts from the duo and pencilled for release on SlothBoogie Records.

West Coast Canada producer and DJ Jesse Bru, as well as being a regular on SlothBoogie Records, has been releasing his twist on contemporary house via the likes of Happiness Therapy, Pulse Msc and Inhale Exhale amongst others in recent years. Here we see him team up with fellow Vancouver-based artist Max Ulis, who also operates as one half of the duo Sabota.

‘Banh Mi’ leads the way and much like the Vietnamese delicacy itself lays down a delectable soul-infused feel filled with dubbed out chords, distorted drums, and vocal chants. ‘Moisture Cult’ follows and retains a similarly dubbed out feel, fusing spiralling stab echoes and pulsating subs with shuffled drums. ‘TBH’ then shifts focus over to a modern electro feel with crunchy 808 drums, snaking arpeggio lines, resonant leads, and elongated subs.

Up next is ‘Semblance’ which twists and turns through choppy breaks, intricately intertwined bass stabs, plucked synths and airy atmospherics before ‘Big Chirp’ rounds out the release on a raw house tip with swinging drums, squelchy acid bass tones and sweeping ethereal pads.
