It's "Illegal Jazz" time again. Toy Tonics head honcho Mathias ‚Kapote' Modica and former OYE Records music impressario Delfonic started to release some of their reworks of rare dance jazz tracks. Made originally for their own DJ sets, then released on two limited EPs. The vinyl were sold out immediately. So they decided to do a next chapter: four reworks of obscure Latin Funk, unheard disco Soul and lot of jazzy vibes in here - not easy to decipher the originals. All tracks have been reworked for DJ buisness - editing, looping, adding drums - with full respect to the original artists. To make dancers hear and feel their vibes again.

If you've come across Art Of Tones before you know what's in store for you. The Rainbow Song got all the signatures of a great Art Of Tones track. It's uplifting, got a tight groove, a strong vocal hook and well crafted jazz-like rhodes chords, it's damn catchy! For remix duties we find one of Paris' finest purveyors of high quality underground electronic music, S3A aka Max Fader. The London-based duo of Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar had a breakthrough year in 2012, four years after the pair's Feel My Bicep blog first began. The past year has seen them play in more than a dozen countries, including major gigs across the US, China and, more recently, Australia, with particular highlights including a peak time set at Berlin’s haloed Panorama Bar and capacity crowds at both Sub Club and Trouw. In addition to the release of “You/ Don’t” on Aus, the boys also inaugurated their own imprint With the Visions Of Love EP, whilst "$tripper", which was released through Love Fever, came in at number 35 on RA's top 50 tracks of 2012 poll. Still on their six-legged victory lap following the massive success of the Blessed EP, Tiga & The Martinez Brothers look to the outer limits of techno and beyond for the remixes. “Blessed was a baby born of friendship, and you don’t turn your baby over to some dude making ‘dark, atmospheric bangers' on Ableton. You take that baby, you put on her bonnet and you entrust her to some of the most successful men in the world so you can take your wife salsa dancing for once,” says Tiga.
Longtime Turbo target Ricardo Villalobos delivers his personal magic on the remix of “Cleopatra." This is not the kind of everyday magic you’d find in a kind word from a stranger or the childlike wonder of a child. This is the good kind of magic.
Louis Vuitton Creative Director/Off-White mastermind Virgil Abloh, one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, was a big fan of “Blessed,” and turns in a remix that is closer to "future jazz” than Tiga would have accepted from anyone else on that list, except for maybe Hugh Jackman. Abloh also designed the artwork for the release, which depicts the fall of man as seen through the eyes of a jean jacket.
“I speak for everyone at Turbo when I say we are delighted and honoured to bring these two friends and creative forces into the fold,” says Tiga. “Some people well tell you that hatred and divisiveness are the answers to society’s ills, but I respectfully disagree. It’s friendship that’s gonna see us through. If I can convince two of today’s leading cultural figures to roll up their sleeves and figure out my remix pack, imagine what I could do if given control of a small country. I don’t see any other labels making these kinds of claims, and to me that says a lot.”

Toy Tonics welcome one of the US’ absolute legends in the game on their roster - Kai Alcé! One of the original masters of jazzy house, Kai is a prime example, someone who witnessed the genesis of Detroit’s electronic musical landscape and strives to keep that spirit alive. Being of Haitian descent laid the foundation for his musical ear starting with his childhood in Queens, New York. Some of his earliest musical influences included his mother’s penchant for soca music and the distinct Caribbean rhythms of his culture. An appreciation of Jazz would be further guided by his father’s expanding audiophile home system. During the 1970s the kindling of Hip Hop and the heyday of Disco perked the ear of a young Kai while they were living in NYC. The Big Apple would remain a constant throughout his musical journey as the years went on, but it was the move to Michigan that ultimately shaped his artistic vision.
On this 5 track EP Kai once again makes it all feel so easy! Deeply musical, yet also instantly effective on the dance floor, tracks like ‘New Life Livin’ and ‘Slide It In’ come with an ease that shows why he’s shaped the game for decades.
