Since Jesper Munk's debut album in 2013 the German singer-songwriter has made a name for himself as multi-
instrumentalist , "in the paths of Jack White and Dan Auerbach," as the Rolling Stone Magazine puts it, playing
music that ranges from Blues and Soul to heartfelt Pop and indulging Jazz, all this with a very unique, post-Punk
edge. His new album Taped Heart Sounds offers an evolution of Munk's sound: warm, gentle and soft vibes that
go deep. "If there is a way to give you a hug in form of an album, this is how I'd attempt to do so," says Munk.
Recorded in an offbeat band room in Berlin with The Cassette Heads, the album brings together classics reaching from Blues to Rock'n Roll. Twelve songs of legendary artists who have influenced and inspired Munk since his early days, including Tom Waits, JJ Cale, Etta James, Hank Williams, Willie Dixon, Jacques Brel, and Mocky.
The entire album was recorded with a Tascam Portastudio 8-Track Cassette Recorder which brought an original and authentic sound to each song: "The technical limitations immediately liberated all other aspects of the recording," Munk says. "It shows how much of making music is just listening and without a screen to catch your eye, you really have no choice but to do so." All Songs face realness and live from these volatile moments that reveal vulnerability and musical generosity. The outcome of this analogue experiment is a very personal album, both inspiring and consoling.
Taped Heart Sounds courageously opens with Donnie & Joe Emerson's Baby; a song so iconic that it actually cannot be enhanced. However, Munk's interpretation stands out and has a presence that gives the song a life of its own - made for walking. Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, All the World Is Green, I'd Rather Go Blind, Head in the Clouds - what follows is a journey through Blues and Soul that is so vital and "now" that End of the Line may be the final track but certainly not the end of the story.
The album wouldn't be what it is without collaboration and partnership. Munk's special thanks go to his fans who helped to crowd-fund the recording. "On top of having had a real fun learning experience it all felt like a community project with real support from friends, the Cassette Heads, incredibly inspiring guests, and from Miles Deico, a wonderfully open and able engineer," so Munk about the making of the album.
Taped Heart Sounds is Jesper Munk's 4th album, following acclaimed debut album For in My Way it Lies (2013), CLAIM (2016), and Favourite Stranger (2018). Released via Billbrook Records, Hamburg-based Distributor Wordandsound's new label, the album is available for pre-order now - for purchase on vinyl and CD. The first single 'Baby' is going to be released on November 19, 2021.

Written, recorded and produced by Aboriginal Voices,
Micheline (Pfister) and Wüste (Heinrich Zwahlen) 1982 in Zurich.
Edited and polished 2021 by Wüste in NYC.
For a quarter of an hour, Zürich was the navel of the world. Let's look back: at New York's CBGB's, pre-punks were shredding away, Malcolm McLaren, as a man with a fine-tuned taste for the hip, imported the sound to London, where his sweetheart Vivienne Westwood dressed the test-tube band The Sex Pistols. A few pop magazines later (we are in an analog world!) punk bands sprouted everywhere, like shiny pimples on poorly fed teenagers. Contrary to legend, even back then, it was often those with a musical background who were the most successful. One such example, Henrich "Wüste" Zwahlen, who had learned the violin, attended a jazz school and went into prog-rock before joining the Nasal Boys, one of the first punk bands in Zürich. The scene included the female band Kleenex (cover: Fischli of art heroes Fischli/Weiss), whose minimalism was praised by the London music press, while the world's most important rock theorist, Greil Marcus, wrote an ode highlighting Zürich's role as the birthplace of Dadaism. A fertile ground for the militant youth movement that exploded in 1980 and stirred up the city of banks, protestantism and boredom with raw wit and expressive violence. Gathering at concerts of local bands and fueled by endogenous and artificial substances - they paid homage to exuberance and self-indulgence.
The mantra of "everything-is-possible" was driven forward on the musical front by progress in terms of means of production: analog electronic instruments were no longer reserved for hippie nerds, who sat in front of large plug-in boards like autistic-psychedelic switchboard operators connecting cables for their sound carpets. Now snazzy stage personnel elicited fast-paced sounds from handy devices often made in Japan. Kraftwerk was fashionable, the Zurich duo Yello experimented with new synthetic sounds, and the groundbreaking album "Alles Ist Gut" by the Düsseldorf based duo D.A.F. (Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft) was released, which chanted its program of provocation times danceability with lines such as "Tanz den Jesus Christus, tanz the Mussolini, tanz the Adolf Hitler." In England meanwhile, electronically backed New Romantic bands were replacing New Wave. The Human League, Heaven 17, Duran Duran, OMD, Depeche Mode or Visage stormed the charts.
In Zürich's underground, the duo Aboriginal Voices caused a stir at that time. A couple, good-looking, styled, looking cool into the cold neon light, with a danceable beat and sequenced electro sounds, to which Micheline gave a very unique touch when she sang in French and English. Micheline had a classical piano education, had left home early, worked as a lighting technician in a strip joint and at Booster, the hottest boutique in town (one of the relicts that still exists). Voilà: a musician who was as stylish as she was tough. She was already playing with Wüste in the band "Doobie Doos", a band where everyone played an instrument they didn't master. In 1980 the Aboriginal Voices were formed, initially with vocalist Magda Vogel (of later UnknownmiX fame), who was trained as a classical singer.
Frustrated by organizational friction and constant hassles with band lineups, Wüste and Misch decided to do everything as a twosome: self-mixed, self-styled, self-produced. With the top-of-the-line Linn drum machine clocking the beat, Wüste's guitar and Micheline on the Yamaha synthesizer created a unique sound of danceable electronic music. Whereby the Aboriginal Voices acted as a kind of proto-influencer, receiving the latest equipment to try out, especially since they made it a point not to work with tapes, but to design everything for live shows. They had an interface built for the legendary Roland MC-4B, who sequenced the modular Roland System 100M but where one output controlled a light show synchronized with the sound. A pioneering act that fit well into the DIY spirit of punk, with its self-distributed tapes and fuck-you attitude towards the cretins of the music industry. Consequently only two cassettes and an EP were released. There was something futuristic about the sound, the vestiary style and the electronics, while the attitude remained rebellious. Of course something so deeped in the Zeitgeist wasn't meant to last. Wüste moved to New York, Micheline stayed in Zurich, both still active in the music scene to this day.

If you ever saw them live, you never forgot them, and so over the years you belonged to a teeny-tiny circle of insiders, happy to be joined after all these years by new aficionados who appreciate the sound of that quarter-hour, when Zurich was ravishing, creative and exciting.

If you ever saw them live, you never forgot them, and so over the years you belonged to a teeny-tiny circle of insiders, happy to be joined after all these years by new aficionados who appreciate the sound of that quarter-hour, when Zurich was ravishing, creative and exciting.

Dario Zenker - The 600 Prophets
Reflection through wild times channeled into 63 minutes of machine funk.
Ilian Tape co-founder Dario Zenker has consistently served up some of the label's best releases and now he goes long on this double album, Reflection. He calls it "a reflection through wild times channeled into 63 minutes of machine funk" and we call it 12 tracks of devastating techno on both an emotional and physical level. His tracks often fix with wispy synth lines that bring subtle light to the dusty drums and muggy atmospheres and on the likes of 'Da Conducter' he offers up thumping house with grainy lo-fi pads and muffled leads that hook you in deep. The vast rhythmic variation and switch-up in tempos and moods throughout this album is what keeps it so fresh. More

Anthony Naples fifth full length LP “orbs” is a moody portal of shoegazed and slo-mo songs suspended in thin air. The album doesn’t reassemble the A.N. sound from the ground up, so much as enhance and expand its scope in all directions. Samples and Instruments meld together into new languorous and liquid forms that with or without the beat of drums, shift with the gentle movements of time.

Yes, we are talking piano, phun-ky basslines, synth melodies and vocal statements on top. Another epic break? Included! Being known for constantly trying to find the perfect sweetspot in between House, Disco and Italo, Johannes delivers one of his most catchy EPs to date. Gondwana Records are proud to announce Octava the sublimely beautiful second album from immersive LA deep-jazz masters Phi-Psonics. Phi-Psonics is a meditative, deeply soulful immersive jazz group from Los Angeles, led by bassist Seth Ford-Young and featuring Sylvain Carton on woodwinds, Mitchell Yoshida on electric piano, and Josh Collazo on drums. Their deeply soulful music draws on jazz and classical influences together with Ford-Young"s own musical experiences, relationships, and his introduction to spirituality, yoga and philosophy at a young age, along the way they create something uniquely their own, beautiful landscapes for your thoughts to roam within.

“I hope you die by my side, the two of us at the exact same time, I hope we die not long from now, the two of us
at the exact same time”
By the time Molly Nilsson released History, she had already established a fledgling cult status built on homemade
YouTube videos and home-burnt Cdrs. Writing from a distance, it’s clear that History is the first classic album in
her canon and arguably a classic of the 21st Century underground music panorama. While the methodology on
History hadn’t changed from Nilsson’s previous 3 albums – it was recorded solo at The Lighthouse, Nilsson’s
home studio based on a Berlin crossroads – on this record the songwriting reached a new peak and the
emotional scythe cut deeper. Here, Nilsson managed to combine a cosmic, outward looking perspective with an
intimate knowledge of the human condition and its place in these turbulent times. In truth, no other songwriter has
excavated the modern psyche so clearly and perfectly.
The tracklist to Nilsson’s fourth album reads as an early greatest hits for Molly Nilsson followers and also serves
as the perfect entry point to a whole world the artist has been building for the last 10 years. In Real Life
crystalises the millenial obsession with relationships built online, with a generation paying for the baby boomer’s
excesses with their anxiety towards the harshness of every day life. It’s a call to arms for a generation who fell in
love on Skype. On I Hope You Die, one of Molly Nilsson’s most iconic songs, the songwriter flips the song title
into a tale of doomed romance, a relationship based on miscommunications and the thrill of the other. It’s also
one of the most heartfelt songs full of pathos written by anyone, an ode to obsession. Doomed romance, life lived
on the flipside of day and the role of the outsider in society are themes that crop up through-out History. On
Bottles Of Tomorrow, the narrator is sweeping up, in love with the night and examining the remains a society
leaves behind.
On City Of Atlantis, Nilsson veers from the plaintive balladry she had begun to make her name with, embracing
trance-like synth and dance music details to create an unlikely anthem using the mythological city as a means to
comment on the patriarchal rendering of history by power. With by now trademark panache, she turns
complicated subject matter into a glorious song that transforms into an ecstatic pop moment.
Hotel Home, another Nilsson classic, paints loneliness not as a debilitating anxiety, but as a powerful tool that
propels the artist forward through her travels. It’s a song that hints at an endearing self-awareness also; the writer
is never at home, living life on the road, content that “the world will find me when the time is ripe.”
There’s never been a greater time. More

Pev swiftly follows up the Pulse EP with another four tracks of sprightly club gear that continue to shape out his current areas of exploration in the studio. As ever, there are no fixed concepts or approaches - just an instinct for energising, inventive tracks taking in a range of tempos and rhythms.
The first half of Pulse Modulation EP is marked out by linear rhythms which showcase the most techno aspects of Pev's sound. 'Pulse V' is charged with the kind of alien synth lines which could only come from his studio, but also draw a line to the hi-tech soul of foundational Detroit techno. 'Pulse VI' has a starker, bleep-led sound pitched towards tougher dancefloors.
'Pulse VII' strips things back in comparison, leaning in on a blanket of bass and keeping the drums sparse and to the point - a study in soundsystem pressure. Widening the spectrum of the record, 'Pulse VIII' sees Pev make a rare push up into 160+ territory - something normally reserved for his DJ sets. Swerving obvious break edits, his take on jungle is lean and crisp, delivering a fresh slant on the sound while maintaining the sharp focus of his current output.
Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge underground electronic music.

DeadBeat - Adieu Chez Cherie
After releasing Undefined, Kazufumi Kodama and Babe Roots, the 4th release from a Japanese experimental dub label newdubhall welcomes the ever-evolving pioneer of minimal dub and dub techno Deadbeat, a solo project of Scott Monteith hailing from Canada. Side A 'Things Fall Apart' will feature a beatless dub ambient which shares a perspective of free jazz and 'Adieu Chez Cherie,’ an absolute knockdown four on the floor dub techno on the flip side. Though simple, both sides are layered with complexity, let yourself experience the profundity of newdubhall with this masterpiece.

This gem from the Geneva, Switzerland band follows the acclaimed WRJ reissue of their self-titled album (1974) and My Greatest Love (1975), their full-length with Benny Bailey. The 300-copies-only white sleeved DLP comes with the classic obi and features fully remastered audiophile-ready recordings.
Captured live at Montreux Jazz Festival, July 3rd 1974, this rare audio treat features Boillat Thérace Quintet fan-favorites including their infamous homages to Swiss Marmite ("Cenovis"), and Geneva's public transport line Tram 12 ("1224"), as well as remarkable renditions of timeless jazz numbers by Freddie Hubbard ("Straight Life" and "Backlash") and Chick Corea ("Spain").
Additionally, the double LP offers 3 bonus songs taken from the ensemble’s sessions for their self-titled debut: superb takes on Herbie Hancock’s "Dolphin Dance", Wayne Shorter’s "Adam’s Apple", and Claude Engel’s "5th of July, Dulong Street".

'Prisoners Of Love And Hate' is an offering to community, to desires that imprison and liberate, to people in
all their divinity and ugliness. Apostille - aka Night School Records’ captain Michael Kasparis - presents his
third album with a bang, a bursting ball of NRG, empathy and bristling living.
Like its predecessor 'Choose Life', 'Prisoners…' was recorded at Full Ashram Celestial Garden in Glasgow with
Lewis Cook (Free Love) through 2022. A nine song treatise on pop music, trauma, ecstasy and the mundanities
between the extremes, Kasparis takes on classic 80s synth pop, 90s house music, 00s trance, wistful balladry, 70s
power pop. The thread that runs through the album is a boundless energy, an openness to the moment, to living
the pains and joys equally, open armed.
This is a place of no judgement, of possibility, challenge and comfort. The nine songs on 'Prisoners…' can be
read as separate ruminations on the feelings and desires that imprison our experience. Through it all the narrator
struggles against them, transported and fooled by love and longing, peering through the bars of anguish, flailing in
a cell of emotions. 'Saturday Night, Still Breathing' breaks the album open with an invigorating scream and
pounds into the night with a nod to Whigfield, Kasparis’ punk roots and house music. Over a thumping 909 kick
and bassline, Kasparis pens a love letter to being with people, the collective energy of hearts in a room, thrumming
together, making it through together. Written as private ritual magic, manifesting community during a time of
isolation, it’s as if the party is the most important thing in the world. 'Rely On Me' imagines 80s Mute synth pop,
Erasure fronted by Bruce Springsteen, romance doomed and forever perfect in the mind. 'Spit Pit' completes
the opening triptych of fast paced rollercoasters, an ode to childhood forged out of change and discomfort told
with a bold, epic production by Lewis Cook, AFX breakbeats, 160BPM kicks and a commanding vocal
performance.
On 'People Make This City', Kasparis eases off the gas, lets the mist blowing in from the Clyde River blow over his
version of Glasgow. A wistful ballad about small town gossip and coming through anger to leaving it all behind, it
provides some shadow to the bright light of the vibrancy of the album. 'Natural Angel' owes much to 70s and 80s
power pop, guitar melodrama, Thin Lizzy and Rick Springfield through the prism of co-dependence in
relationships. It’s a theme that’s picked up in slow burner 'Nothing But Perfect', a hazy synth soul-inflected song
about building your own mythology, constructing a dream to hide in, to hold on to. The most surprising track of the
album, 'Summer of ’03' re-imagines the trance music of early noughties Europe into a lament for an eternal
summer or as a fan once put it, “Meat Loaf with a donk on it.” A recognition that all ecstasy has tragedy laced
within it, it’s a theme that is sewn throughout the LP and continued on the final song 'Feel Good (You Can Make
Me)'. Referencing Shalamar’s 1982 mega hit by way of N-Trance’s piano riffs, the epic closer is riddled with
heartbreak, vulnerability and power. It’s a testament to the new confidence in Kasparis’s songwriting, sure, but also
to the enduring power of people to come together in mutual dependence and love. If ecstasy is always laced with
tragedy, then 'Prisoners of Love and Hate' can always reach out between the bars to meet in the middle, the
eternal now.
