To celebrate Hugo LX’s return to Japan after three years, Japan-based house music label Eureka! and Hugo's own Doma Music have joined force to release a limited 7inch record, that will be sold exclusively at each of the 6 stops of his tour, starting this Wednesday.
The record contains two previously unreleased compositions from the Platinum Wave sessions ; unlimited express, a future-boogie tunes, and the purple number, a deep broken house cut. Both of these songs reflect Hugo’s musical experiences during his first tenure there more than a decade ago, as well as his current musical endeavors. More

It’s a new day – and 2022 marks a very special new chapter for Parisian producer Hugo LX, who delivers his latest sound offering on his freshly founded imprint Doma Music.
A collective adventure, « The Platinum Wave » sees the return of Hugo’s most frequent collaborators – trumpeter Hermon Mehari and guitarist Christopher Johnson, with the addition of pianist Tony Tixier – the four of them connecting, building and weaving their sonic textures over these five sound cuts.
A starting point in the Doma music catalogue, « The Platinum Wave » aims to propose a different sound in dance music, both a continuation of a certain musical legacy and an exploration of today’s boundless possibilities, as much as an intimate soundscape from four artists deeply involved in the Paris creative scene – and most definitely, a first taste of things to come on the label. Mona Musique is the imprint from Nick V, curator and resident DJ behind longstanding night Mona. First and foremost the vinyl-only label is an embodiment of the Parisian parties that have been bringing together Voguers, Waackers and club dancers for more than a decade.
Calling once again on the production skills of Hugo LX - who featured on Mona Musique’s debut release – “NY Collage” reminds us why he is a firm favourite with label boss Nick V. A standout soulful bassline and trademark Hugo LX drum beat, makes this a sophisticated choice to lift up the dancefloor.
Over on the B side is a remix from man of the moment Kaytronik. The DJ/producer veteran, also known as Karizma, has reworked the track to almost beyond recognition. Deep and dreamy, a new bassline gives it that raw kick, evocative of London in the later hours of the night.
Closing off the EP is a remix of ‘Drifting Away’, Hugo LX’s aforementioned Mona Musique debut. Crafted by Ambrose, the production head behind releases on late 90s House labels Kif SA and Basenotic, he is also the imprint’s studio engineer. A fan of the Kenlou/MAW era, Ambrose’s rework remains true to the deepness of the original cut, but mixes things up with a tougher, harder-hitting edge and wonky keys. More

After a string of releases in 2016, french journeyman and beat craftsman Hugo LX returns on Balance Recordings with his first House long player. Supposedly designed as a more traditional 3-tracks offering, the project progressively turned into a two parts album, reflecting on past, present and future events through organic electronic music, with the loss of a dear friend and men­tor as the turning point. Instead of a contemplative tribute piece, this effort focuses on storytelling, narrating crucial life moments through various song and interlude formats, colours and musical styles, producing a vaporous yet funky, jazzy and hiphop infused house music, flirting with soulful atmospheres and ambiant elec­tronic textures.

After having brought you the critically acclaimed Japanese house compilation "Once upon a time in Japan...", Jazzy Couscous introduces one of the most promising artist of the French deep house scene, Hugo LX.Having worked on a strings of releases in early 2016, French producer Hugo LX (Courtesy of Balance, My Love is underground, Faces) comes back with another four track offering, with help from fellow French man, Korea-based Fulbert, on the remix duties. Expect some sample-built, bass heavy, deep fried pieces from the nomadic beatsmith, merging influences from Japanese dreamy ambiant, French vaporous soundtracks and American deep dance music. People Of Earth strides into the New Year with a new project called The Elements Series. Part one welcomes some serious names, not least Detroit's ambient and techno master John Beltran who kicks off with 'Nuyorico' a joyous, chord-laced house groove laden with organic percussion. Javonntte's 'Tropical Feelings' is another of his textbook deep house cuts with whispered vocals bringing a spiritual vibe. Atlanta's main man Kai Alce does his do with the jazzy synth energy of shuffling house cut 'Benefit' (NDATL instrumental mix) then Byron The Aquarius pairs things back to dusty drums and humid chords on 'Sun Gods'. This one is only for the real heads. More

Brooklyn-based Malik Hendricks does a fine line in raw, deep but visceral house sounds that cannot fail to make an impact both physically and emotionally. He has done so on the likes of Bliss Point, Coloring Lessons and Darker Than Wax before now and here arrives on People Of Earth with more compelling cuts. 'Move On Up' is a steamy and sweaty house thumper with impassioned vocal swirls, 'All Mine' layers in some heavenly melodies that manage to uplift the mood in a subtle fashion and 'Feeling Like Larry' references the great Mr Heard, surely, with its balmy cosmic pads and spiritual house depths. 'The Way' (feat Tane) is licked with acoustic guitar riffs that bring to mind open-air dancing by the Med. More

People of Earth shakes things up for #016 with a limited 12" from Charolastra entitled Karuna. Only 200 copies pressed of this continuous play, crossover jazz release. Brought to the realization with some of ATLANTA's most talented instrumentalists. It is an amalgamation of genres but the underlying emotions are immediately recognizable. Grief, loss, regret and the transcendental power of the spirit to overcome these hardships. Blending elements of jazz, IDM, broken beat, drone, and dub, while it may be difficult to put your finger on Karuna it doesn't make it any less enjoyable. More

This one was already getting plenty of support and many plays before it even came out. And it's easy to see why, because both tunes are brilliantly atmospheric house cuts that offer more than just a nice groove. 'Memory By Flyway' (original Tribute mix) has a grainy, lived-in feel, with warm chords smeared over the bumping beats and a spoken word vocal adding extra depth. The Justin Spiritual Navigation mix reworks the drums into a more funky, skipping framework but keeps the vocal musings and adds some spiritual keys for a proper heady trip. More

Stefan Ringer’s debut on People of Earth indeed does feel rite as the title implies. A superb and well-rounded EP from start to finish that is meant for the dancers. Once again People of Earth gives us the dance floor goods and for their 10th release calls on Detroit legend Norm Talley for a dirty four tracker. Tracks that range from deep and raw grooves to a straight big room banger. "Rise Up" rocks the Martin Luther King sample over Norm's deep house groove. "Do Yo Thang" is a nasty house banger, sexy vocal samples and infectious chord stabs. B side starts with the the big room bump "Houzz Music" track. Detroit techno at it's finest. "World's Final Preview" rounds out the record with lush and dreamy pads accompanied by a wicked baseline. More

Congratulations to Brian "Javonntte" Garrett, who this year celebrates two decades releasing mind-expanding deep house gold. His first 12" of 2018 sees him pop up on People Of Earth, a label that has previously delivered EPs from such scene stalwarts as Rick Wade, Patrice Scott and Kai Alce. Fittingly, Garrett is in a nostalgic mood on opener "Way Back", where his deep, dreamy and soul-flecked deep house groove is accompanied by a spoken word vocal reminiscing about the mid 1990s. Elsewhere, "Zodiac" wraps starbust motifs around a chunky, bass-heavy groove, "House Joint" is a bumpin' box jam rich in sturdy drum machine hits and swirling chords, and "Boom House" is a slightly tougher workout that boasts beats worthy of Derrick Carter or DJ Sneak.
