Patrice Scott kicks off the 2012 release schedule in proper fashion with the Orbital Bliss EP - Keeping the Sistrum sound true and setting the tone for another year of quality output. We are treated to cool, smooth, futuristic cuts that pay tribute to the wonders of the cosmos. As always, the sounds are carefully crafted and slowly evolving, treating the listener to a refined palette of rhythm and melody suitable for the dancefloor and the living room, alike.
Track 1 - Tones & Things A fitting opener for the EP, "Tones & Things" is a lush, ambient piece featuring icy chord sequences, delayed hi-hats, and various blips and bleeps - prepping you for an intergalactic mission to the deepest reaches of space. This one deserves a good listen in the headphones, for maximum enjoyment. Track 2 - Oberon Feeling like a natural and effortless extension of "Tones & Things," "Oberon" takes us the outer edge of the solar system. Delicately flanged and phased hi-hats dance atop a steadily building groove of swirling synth pads and dark, square-wave bass pulses. Make no mistake, these are hypnotic sounds for enlightened interstellar travel. Track 3 - Orbital Bliss Orbiting a distant moon, the groove locks in with a firm kick and understated percussive elements - providing a foundation on which is layered a futuristic collage of tones and textures. Another hypnotic builder, "Orbital Bliss" is sure to give deep dancefloors a reason to rejoice. Track 4 - Orbital Bliss (P. Scott ReCord Version) Patrice expands on the original theme of "Orbital Bliss" by giving the drums a more crisp, up-front presence. Atmospheric, yet ready to instill movement in the listener, this cut captures the best of both worlds - terrestrial and extraterrestrial. People Of Earth strides into the New Year with a new project called The Elements Series. Part one welcomes some serious names, not least Detroit's ambient and techno master John Beltran who kicks off with 'Nuyorico' a joyous, chord-laced house groove laden with organic percussion. Javonntte's 'Tropical Feelings' is another of his textbook deep house cuts with whispered vocals bringing a spiritual vibe. Atlanta's main man Kai Alce does his do with the jazzy synth energy of shuffling house cut 'Benefit' (NDATL instrumental mix) then Byron The Aquarius pairs things back to dusty drums and humid chords on 'Sun Gods'. Brooklyn-based Malik Hendricks does a fine line in raw, deep but visceral house sounds that cannot fail to make an impact both physically and emotionally. He has done so on the likes of Bliss Point, Coloring Lessons and Darker Than Wax before now and here arrives on People Of Earth with more compelling cuts. 'Move On Up' is a steamy and sweaty house thumper with impassioned vocal swirls, 'All Mine' layers in some heavenly melodies that manage to uplift the mood in a subtle fashion and 'Feeling Like Larry' references the great Mr Heard, surely, with its balmy cosmic pads and spiritual house depths. 'The Way' (feat Tane) is licked with acoustic guitar riffs that bring to mind open-air dancing by the Med.

Brought to the realization with some of ATLANTA's most talented instrumentalists. It is an amalgamation of genres but the underlying emotions are immediately recognizable. Grief, loss, regret and the transcendental power of the spirit to overcome these hardships. Blending elements of jazz, IDM, broken beat, drone, and dub, while it may be difficult to put your finger on Karuna it doesn't make it any less enjoyable.

This one was already getting plenty of support and many plays before it even came out. And it's easy to see why, because both tunes are brilliantly atmospheric house cuts that offer more than just a nice groove. 'Memory By Flyway' (original Tribute mix) has a grainy, lived-in feel, with warm chords smeared over the bumping beats and a spoken word vocal adding extra depth. The Justin Spiritual Navigation mix reworks the drums into a more funky, skipping framework but keeps the vocal musings and adds some spiritual keys for a proper heady trip.

Once again People of Earth gives us the dance floor goods and for their 10th release calls on Detroit legend Norm Talley for a dirty four tracker. Tracks that range from deep and raw grooves to a straight big room banger. "Rise Up" rocks the Martin Luther King sample over Norm's deep house groove. "Do Yo Thang" is a nasty house banger, sexy vocal samples and infectious chord stabs. B side starts with the the big room bump "Houzz Music" track. Detroit techno at it's finest. "World's Final Preview" rounds out the record with lush and dreamy pads accompanied by a wicked baseline.

Congratulations to Brian "Javonntte" Garrett, who this year celebrates two decades releasing mind-expanding deep house gold. His first 12" of 2018 sees him pop up on People Of Earth, a label that has previously delivered EPs from such scene stalwarts as Rick Wade, Patrice Scott and Kai Alce. Fittingly, Garrett is in a nostalgic mood on opener "Way Back", where his deep, dreamy and soul-flecked deep house groove is accompanied by a spoken word vocal reminiscing about the mid 1990s. Elsewhere, "Zodiac" wraps starbust motifs around a chunky, bass-heavy groove, "House Joint" is a bumpin' box jam rich in sturdy drum machine hits and swirling chords, and "Boom House" is a slightly tougher workout that boasts beats worthy of Derrick Carter or DJ Sneak.
