KOKO - Amor Ante Hominem Nascitur
Enzo Siragusa and FUSE launch new label LOCUS this June, with the debut EP coming via hotly tipped talent KOKO. Having recently unveiled a new-look aesthetic for his long-standing and highly influential FUSE imprint, Enzo Siragusa and the FUSE team will now turn their attention to fresh project and brand-new label - LOCUS - with the definition of the label’s namesake matching their ambition to create a new and refreshing home for exclusive underground electronic music whilst delivering high quality parties, just as FUSE has done so over the past 12 years. With an ethos of exploring all shades of house music with the dancefloor at the forefront of its thinking, LOCUS looks set to house the very best in four-to-the-floor club music from both established talents and rising stars alike, with the first EP on the label arriving this summer courtesy of Infuse regular and ever-impressing Italian DJ and producer, KOKO. Opening with the infectious ‘Chantal’ alongside Brooklyn-based vocalist Quelle Rox, the Italian’s penchant for rich and dynamic soundscapes from across the house sphere quickly becomes apparent as he fuses resonant synths and refined drum licks beneath infectious vocals for a sun-kissed opener. Next, ‘Your Ass, My Camel Blue’ welcomes fluid electric piano lines and icy hats atop of a snaking bassline, before journeying into the luscious chords, sultry rhythms and resonant sax-riffs of ‘Love in Plexiglass’. Lastup, final cut ‘Amore Ante Hominem Nascitur’ closes things out via a medley of hypnotic leads, dubby chords and shuffling percussion – shaping up a notable debut offering for LOCUS and a stellar first look into an imprint that looks set to become a new favourite for many in the months ahead. Release Note:
Lunatica Borghesia sees emerging Italian producer KOKO come into his powers in a 6-track EP which, at times seems suited to accompany a blissful reverie, and at others a rave in a rainforest. Either way, Lunatica Borghesia is about escaping.
The first two tracks capture deep house in its truest essence: at once meditative, melancholic and serene. The blissed-out piano chords and cymbal strokes "You can't buy luxury" lend the opening track a nocturnal jazz feel which is carried through to "Ego Borghese" where it is heightened by the melodic cries of a saxophone. Instrumentation maintains its primacy in "Listening to Some Impala in Coventry" as staccato flutes guide the subtle bongo-sounding percussion which gives the track its swing.
The next two tracks - "9,99EU" and "Pegasus" - are for the dance floor. Whilst the synth-driven melody and acid undertones of "9,99EU" sees the EP at its most retro, the final track "Tradizione Tradimento" is a brilliantly modern take on garage house which lets the listener settle back into the groove after being rowsed by "Pegasus" driving pulse. Following previous releases on Banoffee Pies and Drumma Records, Italian producer Francesco Rinaldi PKA KOKO, debut’s on Enzo Siragusa’s INFUSE imprint with a effortlessly sublime and infectious four track EP. Lead track ‘Rimmel’ is string-laden deep disco-tinged slice of sonic beauty. Next up is ‘Own Town’ which ups the ante and takes us into digital stratosphere. On the flip and ‘Versailles’ gets deep and tweaky as the Detroit feel infuses the groove. Finally ‘House Weekend’ breaks out the muted horns and staccato rhythms as we bump all night! Another brilliant EP on this stalwart of an imprint.

Boss Priester makes his LOCUS debut with his bustling four-track ‘Hotel Dijon’ EP. Working hard in the studio to develop his own take on minimal-leaning house and techno, The Hague-based DJ/ producer Boss Priester is starting to reap the rewards and emerge as another hotshot from the country’s hotbed of electronic talent. Racking up support from the likes of Dungeon Meat, East End Dubs, Michel de Hey, Dr. Banana and Alec Falconer, his releases on What NxT and Dark Side Of The Sun have accompanied appearances at the likes of Thuishaven, Colorado Charlie and Lovelee. Another fan of the young Dutchman is FUSE and LOCUS boss Enzo Siragusa, and late September brings a first appearance on the latter imprint as he makes his label debut with his four-track ‘Hotel Dijon’ EP. Title track ‘Hotel Dijon’ comes loaded with raw drum licks, cosmic synths and menacing, swirling low-ends for a heavy-hitting opener set to cause serious dance floor damage, while the slinking ‘ROF66’ mixes eerie stabs with shuffling drums and bouncy baselines for another heavyweight anthem. Next, ‘SUP01’ keeps things ticking nicely on a similar tip with yet more punchy percussion arrangements linking with playful sound design peppered with zippy FX, before closing the show with the hopped-up, bass-driven sonics of final effort ‘Wek’.

Lauren Lo Sung returns to LOCUS for her ‘Shroom’ EP, accompanied by a remix from Youandewan. Heading up LOLiFE and e1even records while dropping music via PIV, Lazare Hoche, and Rutilance, Liverpool- based Lauren Lo Sung’s blend of stripped-back, groove-heavy house has meant early nods as an artist to watch has seen her flourish into a favourite name within the UK minimal-house realm and beyond. Returning to the label for the first time since her classy ‘Miss B’ EP in 2021, and fresh from a string of worldwide dates, including her latest US and Australian tours, the end of July welcomes a return to FUSE’s sister imprint LOCUS as she serves up a pair of quality cuts across her ‘Shroom’ EP - with The Brain and Pure Shores boss Youandewan making his label debut on remix duties. Setting off via the title track, ‘Shroom’ is a slinking cut built on a rugged bassline and warping low-ends, accented by airy synths and warped vocal interjections for a lively trip. Next, second original ‘Tom & Jerry’ draws for acid stabs, hazy melodies and cosmic tones underneath the track’s alluring vox samples and video game electronics for a vibrant and playful production. After yet another impressive twelve months, 2021 welcomes her debut on London’s flourishing LOCUS as she reveals her ‘Miss B’ EP this February – backed by a remix from bubbling Italian talent KOKO, who returns having dropped the launch EP on the label. Title cut ‘Miss B’ kicks things off in a warping fashion as spiralling synths and fluttering vocal interjections meet skittering drums to offer up lively EP opener, whilst ‘Cosmic Flow’ introduces further tripped-out vocal effects atop of dubby chords and paired back, refined percussion. Next up, KOKO’s hazy and energetic take on the title cut showcases the Italian’s slick and infectious sound palette, before the aptly titled ‘B-Side The Point’ closes proceedings as Lo Sung opts for bubbling basslines, hypnotic atmospherics and snaking percussion arrangements throughout a groove-heavy peak-time closer.

Stephan Bazbaz - Voyage EP (Inc. Casey Spillman Remix)
Stephan Bazbaz heads to LOCUS to deliver his Voyage EP, backed by a remix Casey Spillman. An artist at the heart of Tel Aviv’s blossoming house and techno scene, Stephan Bazbaz continues to showcase his skills as one of the city’s leading lights within electronic music. With releases and remixes via the likes of Djebali, hedZup and INFUSE in 2020 alone, he now closes out a fruitful twelve months with an impressive label debut via FUSE imprint LOCUS to deliver three fresh cuts in the form of his ‘Voyage EP’ – whilst INFUSE regular and LOCUS alumni Casey Spillman makes a swift return to step up on remix duties. A low-slung and moody effort from the off, opening cut ‘300’ combines swinging percussion and icy hats whilst escalating synths and rumbling sub-bass take hold and transport the production firmly into the peak hours – unsurprisingly featuring as a stand-out track within Enzo’s sets over the past 12 months. Next up, ‘Key To Success’ offers up a groove-heavy roller, with tracky drums guiding off-kilter samples and rich piano flourishes throughout, whilst Casey Spillman’s interpretation ups the energy levels as he works punchy kicks, warping synths and menacing low-end tones to turn in a bustling remix. To close, ‘The Life’ showcases yet another side of Bazbaz’s vast production skills, opting for hazy synths and dreamy chords to round out proceedings in impressive fashion.
