Losoul's Another Picture label follows on from EPs in 2017 by Honesty and the label boss himself with a new two tracker by Japanese artist Sasaki Hiroaki. The Yotsume label owner is based in Tokyo and his sleek sounds take cues from 80s new wave and look for a soulful vibe in electronic music. 2018 has already seen him release on Open Recordings and now he offers up some warm house rollers for Another Picture.
'EO1' is eight minutes of rubbery drums and loose, scattered percussion, tumbling toms and clicks. Dreamy chords light up the background and the whole thing drives ever deeper into the night, always evolving as it goes. On the flip, 'Plain Song' is just as heartfelt, but icy hi hats and metal stabs are more upright, getting you on your toes and keeping you there for another eight minutes of organic, authentic deep house bliss.

RMXD Versions of TB’s 2018 release “Night Heat”. With contributions from Gerd Janson, Sascha Funke, DJ Hotel and Bostro Pesopeo it’s all in the game; tropic machine rhythms, dist Chicago grooves, pinball lazerfunk and a touch of newromance techno.

Producer, part-time DJ and Permanent Vacation label co-head Tom Bioly aka TB from Munich, Germany, had a first track released, on John Talabot's vinyl-only Hiverned 10" imprint, called "Invitation To Love", which was voted amongst the best 10" releases by UK Fact magazine. GROOVE magazine wrote "..entirely superb..“, about the follow-up EP "City Girl" on Permanent Vacation, of which the title track has been licensed to the independent film „All These Sleepless Nights“ by director Michal Marczak. In 2017 TB followed with “Heartbreak Hotel“, a double twelve-inch release with eight tracks of melancholic dance noir set in smoke-filled darkness.

The Band:
A french trio called France, using drums, bass and amplified hurdy-gurdy.
They perform only live, in the middle of the audience - turned in to face each other - full on smoke machines and strobes. And they play only one 'song' for the duration of their hour-long set. And it's the most transfixing live experience of intense physical and mental focus.
The distorted hurdy gurdy plugs France's sound into the country's history of folk music and popular festivities, of communal trance and immersive pleasure. The rhythmic basis is pretty much the same throughout the whole live. One doesn't need to actually be tripping balls for the auditory illusions to start coming thick and fast. Those who've stayed for the whole duration of their performances know they've shared something. However disparate the phantom forms each might have discerned in the midst of the howls and groans. Gigs like this you leave feeling you're not quite the same person who went in, even though you'd be hard-pressed to pinpoint precisely what has changed.
One certainty remains at least, that there is still a France we can believe in. David McKenna (The Quietus). The Release:

Initially released as a 50 copies CD-r in 2009, swiss Mental Groove has teamed with french Standard-Infi to reissue this classic live performance onto glorious vinyl edition. The 45 minutes are radically sliced onto the two sides. The recording is raw and the mastering is fat. The first two pressings made in 2014 and 2015 were distributed confidentially and during the numerous live performances of the band. They are long time sold out and sought after. Now everyone has a chance to get a slice of France's trance with this third pressing featuring a brand new artwork.

Lets hear the German duo explain this record themselves:

This is an EP with four very different tracks and we really mean all of them. None here feels like everybody's darling but they all do make us feel something, and that is what we strife for, always. The tracks have all been made by just the two of us completely being in the zone, except for House In The Hills, that started as a wonderful jam at our friend Tx‘s place in late 2019, together with him and Jamie Lloyd. We basically hung out for two days straight with nothing but the best people, great food and all the music - happy days as one might guess.

The Toy Tonics crew has been in touch ever since we remixed a song for Kapote, and the idea of doing an EP together had and been tossed around for a while already. We've been digging their musical approach all along and we're happy to get the chance to contribute a small piece to their story. When the pandemic hit, we were fortunate to have our friend Iron Curtis letting us move into his studio, as we had just lost our beloved place in Hamburg - so guess what we did for the most part of 2020? Exactly. We have always been spending most of our time together cooking beats, but probably never as much as over the last year. So has it been 10.000 hours by now? We don’t know but we’re certainly working on it.

Stepping into Rone's music is like sleepwalking through a vividly colorful dream, eventually stumbling across a strange, scintillating Megapolis of saturated light and colors: Mirapolis. It's twelve tracks/districts, each with their own specific planning, pulsate as though animated by their musical mastermind. We snorkel through Mirapolis' musical depths. A city that generates constant wonderment, a desire for emancipation, a gathering of citizens connected to the collective's vital energy. The project was an opportunity for Rone to get reacquainted with long-time stage and studio partners John Stanier, Gaspar Claus and the Vacarme band, and Bryce Dessner (guitarist for The National,) while bringing in new collaborators (and thus, new interpretation of Rone's dreams). We find American slam-poet Saul Williams, who happened to be in Paris for a moment and contributes a searing anti-Trump screed; Baxter Dury, who brings an irresistible East London touch to Switches, a kind of fan fic that reimagines the Beatles' Sgt Pepper lounging pensive in a club chair; Israeli electronic music muse Noga Erez, who inspired Waves, which, despite being recorded remotely, betrays a euphoric partnership; and finally, Kazu Makino, Blonde Redhead's bewitching singer and multi-instrumentalist, who contributes to the album's closer, the gauzy Down for the Cause.
