In certain circles, this is a record that would easily be called „eternal“. Back in 1996, when it was originally released, it sounded like nothing else - and still does. The sixth record of Frankfurt’s soon to be imperial Playhouse label and Losoul’s first outing on the label, it hot-wired many things at once: house and techno, US roots and European fruits, grittiness and wittiness, high tech funk, the expansion pf playtimes and the concept of minimalism in dance music. Elegance met effectiveness.
A composition that hooked you and also caused a stir elsewhere. Daniel Bell licensed it to his Elevate label and commissioned a very young Theo Parrish to remix it, Michel De Hey did the same with his EC Records and treatments by Gerd among others.
Here you finally get both of those carefully restored, remastered and reissued next to the originals. Amply placed on a double 12“, it also features the previously unreleased D1. Stemming from the same time and era as Open Door it rings and feels like a compact lost brother. Addictive as on the very first day and here to stay.

Losoul, whose real name is Peter Kremeier, has been one of the leading figures of legendary 90's and 00's German label Playhouse. He released numerous LPs and EPs during the last three decades, including underground hit "Open Door". He also appeared under the names "Silhouette Electronique" and "Don Disco". Belong, originally released in 2000, gathers nine titles of pure electronic music. From minimalistic house (Taste not Waste), through 90's trip hop (Sunbeams in the rain) all the way to more experimental endeavors (Late Play). The album also includes the track "Overland" which samples the bassline of Billie Jean by Michael Jackson in an eccentric and joyful way.Belong represents the 2000's musical turn, with its delicate, smart, minimal and emotionally groovy sound. A pioneering yet soulful layout of independent electronic music.

Losoul returns to action with his first long player in almost ten years, and delivers a stunning collection of
compositions for the Hypercolour released “Island Time”.
Otherwise known as Peter Kremeier, the German producer has mesmerized us for many years with his organic
and emotive house music, largely released on the influential Playhouse label, but of late has seen him release
singles for Karat and Tardis Records, as well as his very own Another Picture label.
Fans of Losoul won’t be disappointed, as a diverse yet utterly familiar sound aesthetic pours out over the album’s
seven tracks in his own inimitable style. The jazzy broken beats of “Gold Tooth” shine with their micro-sample
chops, whilst “Mean Time” is a dense and dubby slow stomp, teasing the drums with space echo and injecting
sparse bass work where it matters. Inventive, spongy house grooves are delivered on “Boppin Lower” and
“Square Down Smoother” whilst the album closer, “Lava In You” is a master class in ambient sonics and
shimmering keys over a lo-fi swinging groove.
It’s been over 20 years since Losoul’s signature single “Open Door”, and the German producer continues to pour
out honest and rewarding music.

Peter Kremeier, AKA Losoul, has always been an artist we’ve greatly admired here at Hypercolour, so it was a real thrill to
have him on the label back in 2014, and here we have an essential repress of the ‘Slowly Turning’ release. A huge catalogue
of eclectic, distinctive and funky music for labels like Playhouse, Moodmusic and Freak ‘n’ Chic, Losoul turns in two
exceptional tracks on this EP that were lapped up on the initial release.
‘Daddy, What’s A Rise?’ is classic Losoul; a heavy low slung groove never lets up, with micro disco stabs and distant vocal
snippets, looping round and round for over 10 minutes, but without ever standing still, the filtering and deft touches keep things
moving at just the right funky pace.
B side cut ‘Time & Space’ is a glitchy and dubbed out affair, a solid 4/4 beat underpins a myriad of delayed percussion and
panning synths, spatial effects and an incessant chord stab, head music for the heads indeed!

rocking dancefloors and enchanting listeners with his uniquely abstract and tripped-out take on
minimal house for two decades and counting. On the A-side, “Soda Island” hangs cut-up vocal stabs
over the last word in bone-dry, bass-heavy grooves. “Sparkling Please” on the flip starts out cheerfully
but then subtly mutates into spooked insectoid psychedelia anchored by crisp percussion and bass.
Drop either of these cuts at the right moment and watch the dancers lose their minds! Mastered and

Losoul's Another Picture label follows on from EPs in 2017 by Honesty and the label boss himself with a new two tracker by Japanese artist Sasaki Hiroaki. The Yotsume label owner is based in Tokyo and his sleek sounds take cues from 80s new wave and look for a soulful vibe in electronic music. 2018 has already seen him release on Open Recordings and now he offers up some warm house rollers for Another Picture.
'EO1' is eight minutes of rubbery drums and loose, scattered percussion, tumbling toms and clicks. Dreamy chords light up the background and the whole thing drives ever deeper into the night, always evolving as it goes. On the flip, 'Plain Song' is just as heartfelt, but icy hi hats and metal stabs are more upright, getting you on your toes and keeping you there for another eight minutes of organic, authentic deep house bliss.

Manana presents a new remix EP bringing together some essential re-works of Sound Species and Ache Meyi’s collaboration recordings.
Originally recorded in 2016 in Santiago de Cuba during the lead-up to the Manana Festival in the city, the original sessions were an inspired fusion of Ache Meyi’s deep folkloric Afro-Cuban styles with Sound Species’ subtle electronic touches. The new re-works have attracted some familiar names from clubland: broken beat don IG Culture keeps the roots of ‘Ogún Meyi Meyi’ intact with a bass-heavy, percussive attack; brilliant UK drummer and producer Tom Skinner strips back ‘Egrem Bata Jam’ on a pulsing new version; Chicago legend Ron Trent creates a more melodic dancefloor re-work of ‘Alina’s Calypso’ while Sound Species themselves beef up the original Afro-Haitian rhythms of the same track for a dubbier treatment.

In 2021, talented classical guitarist AYANE SHINO discovered his impressive works and recorded cover version of tracks from his acclaimed SAKURA album. Pianist Masako Ohta and trumpet player Matthias Lindermayr are back on Squama with 'Nozomi', the follow-up to their 2022 debut 'MMMMH'.
The Japanese title, which translates to ‘hope’, felt fitting, as the album was conceived during a time of personal loss for Ohta, during and after which music proved itself as a beacon of hope.
The music on Nozomi unfolds gently, with Lindermayr’s airy tone and lyrical playing being wrapped in Ohta’s chordal backing that moves from tender to tense and back over the course of the album. While most tunes were written by Lindermayr, the only exception being an interpretation of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s ‘Hibari’, the arrangements are largely improvised, letting the duo’s intuition guide the course and build the form.
Solemn slowness has become a signature trait of the Munich-based duo and it makes listening to their new record a healing retreat from the frantic chatter of the present.

A new Toy Tonics EP! By label boss Kapote!

4 tracks for the dancefloor inspired by Italo Disco, New Wave Funk and NYC 90ies House. A perfect sound for the new Y2K vibes on 2024 dancefloors.

A new Kapote release is a rare thing. Although he is a musician and producer in the first place he rarely releases music. Why? Because the last years he was busy djing every weekend around the world (as a regular at clubs like Berlin’s Panorama Bar and London’s Phonox but also Festivals like Melt or Kala) and creating the Toy Tonics madness with his label friends. The Berlin based label that is the home base for 15 international artists (Cody Currie, Coeo, Gee Lane, Athlete Whippet, Baby‘s Berserk, Stump Valley…) became THE brand for a colorful and diverse, innovative and ‘organic’ funk oriented post - digital dance music.
Kapote and his friends release music that connects analogue and band vibes with digital production in a very fresh and unique way. Influenced by European underground disco and American house as well as afro beats, new wave and soulful Electronica.
But he and his label also have achieved a great reputation for working with some of the hottest names in Berlin graphic design and art to release the limited edition Toy Tonics Shirts, the label own TT Pocket Poster Magazine, posters and organizing exhibitions and visual shows.
Kapote aka Mathias Modica was and his 3 members TT krew were busy building all this.
Including also the Toy Tonics Jams. The label parties that started in an illegal venue in Berlin 2020 and exploded in 2023. With more than 120 TT events all over Europe. Where the label represents his very own vison of sound, vibe and style. Kapote organized all this with his krew. And it looks like 2024 will be even busier. With Toy Tonics Events at clubs but also museums (Palais de Tokio/ Paris, Milano Design Festjval) or Kapote & Toy Tonics Crew playing with Kaytranada and Peggy Gou at Sonar Festival.

Label mainstays Fouk just dropped the perfect dancefloor Bomb with ‘Mirage’ paired with a high-octane Elisa Bee remix

We all know Dutch duo Fouk from their soulful, bouncy take on house music. They’re also responsible for some of Heist’s biggest tracks like Kill Frenzy or their Lil Louis inspired 2021 release ‘Blue Steel’. On their new EP, the talented duo shows us a fresh side of their sound: the main-room hands-in-the-air-going-wild side. To top things off, Italian producer Elisa Bee made time in her busy schedule of DJ’ing and releasing for artists like Ben Sims on his Hardgroove imprint and Unknown to the Unknown to deliver a killer remix of the title track.

Fouk’s return to Heist after 3 years is a welcome one and with ‘Mirage’, they might just have given us their biggest house track in their decade spanning career. The track is built around a stuttering synth loop and a seductive female vocal chanting ‘What made you wanna…” The real star here is the bassline, which propels the track into a seriously infectious groove. Add some lush strings and moody changeovers and you’ve got yourself a full-blown dancefloor weapon. Mirage has been a staple in Dam Swindle’s sets for the past months and has been one of their set highlights ever since.

“Coffee” is one for the classic Fouk fans. It’s got lovely Rhodes, a joyous combination of whoo’s, snare-rolls and synth hits grooving on top of an infectious orchestral background loop. “Tapioca” is a hybrid latin-electronic groove that builds on punchy synths, live percussion and drunk keys to balance the energy of the track.

Elisa Bee’s remix of ‘Mirage’ is an intense percussive workout that builds on a breakbeat loop and a rave-bassline. The tempo is turned up a notch or 2 and that stutter synth and vocal of the original make this remix a wild warehouse affair.

Closing track of the EP is ‘Abalone’; A lovely bleep-house affair that still has a bit of that warehouse vibe. It’s got the perfect amount of distortion the drums while keeping things dreamy with some face-melting pads throughout the track.
