There was a certain curiosity about Lewis Fautzi's next step with us. Despite his own personal style, we couldn't imagine that he would choose to release a new atmospheric and experimental album.

The result is absolutely stunning.

'Manner of Death' was produced during one of the worst moments of his life and the feelings he put into it are not relatable for most of us but yet understandable. Besides all this there aren't enough words we can write about it.

All we can do is be thankful for such a masterpiece! More

Portuguese techno figurehead Lewis Fautzi returns to Soma with the Properties Specifications EP. A mainstay on the Soma roster for 10 years, Fautzi has progressed through the global ranks to become one of techno's most recognisable acts. A consistent and competent producer, Fautzi's sound has evolved through the years yet remains modern and as on point as ever.

Density is a visceral yet hypnotic opener, its subtle drive is pushed via its instantly building, electric synth hook. Severity continues down a dark and hypnotic patch as polyrhythmic percussion guides a pulsating and incessant groove. Malleability once again displays Fautzi's control over specific elements, each grafting over the other to create new depths of rhythm throughout the track. Tension closes out the EP but does so in emphatic form. The most driving track on the release, thumping low end and crisp percussion are backed with twisted synths and dark atmospheres that swell throughout. More

It's always a huge pleasure to have him back. Lewis Fautzi's astronomic ascension is well known and we are delighted that he decided to 'play home' one more time.

Although the years are passing by, Lewis is faithful to his principles. His personal style is almost a trademark and impossible not to recognize. Techno scene has evolved and he has evolved with it but always in a straight line, adapting himself perfectly to the new tendencies and keeping his touch and his vision.

This new ep is full of trippy pads and powerful bass lines. Mesmerizeng techno as its finest and with a small cherry on top of the cake: a remix by Rodhad. His first time with us and there is no greater feeling, specially knowing the huge artist he is. Established nowadays as a techno force, the german producer combines the hypnotic with different theatrical approaches and came a long way demonstranting the uncontainable nature of his brand of shadowy dance creations, as someone once described his work. We couldn't be happier with the result.

Portuguese sci-fi maker Lewis Fautzi is here again with his very own recipe about how the music of the future should sound like.

His style has evolved to harsher territories lately, with distortion appearing as one of the main components here.

First cut "Induced Pulse" is a broken groove exercise, with pounding kicks and vocal samples providing the introduction while obscure components join the march as the minutes go.

"Undirected Differential" goes straight to the point from the beginning, with obsessive sequences running across a solid paced rhythm. The synth line evolves continuously, changing the filter frequency, mutating and constantly changing.

The B-side opens with "Intense Mechanism", in a galactic mood with one bar arpeggiated sounds, modulated wisely running over a blurred and distorted drum line.

Last slice is "Stimulated Desorption", again hypnosis and repetition as leitmotiv with similar sound components as the previous one but with a more shuffled drum approach. More

Portuguese maestro Lewis Fautzi drops his 2nd EP on Soma of 2020 with the State Of Pressure EP. As well as two top drawer originals from Lewis, the EP features two specially commissioned remixes from fellow Portuguese rising stars Nørbak & Temudo, both of whom have featured this year on Soma to high acclaim.

Title track State Of Pressure opens and doesn't mess about as thumping, driving drums lay the foundation before pure, hypnotic rhythms begin their descent delivering that typical Fautzi sound. Nørbak's remix of State Of Pressure takes note of the originals hypnotic vibe offering a deeper and more percussive driven affair. Epidemic Of Wellness has Fautzi working in darker elements and delivering more tension with his use of each particular strain of the track, pulsing and modulating perfectly in sync. Temudo closes out the EP with his remix of Epidemic Of Wellness. Always focussing on groove and momentum, Temudo goes sub heavy on his version but retains the dark tones of the original whilst almost adding an Electro-like flex on the groove.

Ellen Allien joins forces with Italian synth wave band Ash Code for a formidable collaborative project. Across three tracks they merge their creative energy to produce the fearsome EP - 'Dance and Kill’.
The three track EP represents a perfect marriage of two potent and distinctive sounds, with both acts firing on all cylinders. Across the EP eerie vocal clips, vigorous percussion, stomping bass, distorted vocals, and ominous instrumentation demonstrate the parallels between these sounds. Opening track ‘Dance and Kill’ embodies this melding of techno and cold wave elements. 'Shining On You' features Ellen's vocals and thunderous drum programming, for a sombre yet irresistibly danceable track. Finally ‘Everything Collapses’ unleashes vigorous percussion and a snarling low end, lifted by a chorus of supernatural voices.

Keith Carnal returns to BPitch with a rousing three-track excursion into the visceral side of techno. Stocked with deadly drum arrangements, thumping kicks and imposing basslines, Keith’s armoury is well equipped to cause maximum impact on the dance floor. The title cut takes us straight into the depths of Carnal’s wild mind, with a bombastic cut that utilises a pitched down spoken word vocal. The storyteller takes us into a world of after party excess and ‘ape shit craziness’ as the beats pump relentlessly. It’s debauched, heavy and utterly alluring...
Next up is ‘FreizeitAktivita¨t’, firing on all cylinders with a snub nosed kick and slinky snares, that lead us into the main body of the track where a hypnotic melody plays out. The melody is emotive and evokes a feeling of solemnity, all the while those powerful drums fuel a rapid pace. Lastly, ‘WiederGutMachung’, a brooding cut where Carnal employs a stripped back arrangement to great ef- fect. The main riff has an unsettling feel, cultivating an anxious atmosphere complemented by the pounding beats. More

‘‘I follow the golden stream…" sings Rosa Anschütz in the title track of her new album, in a cold, clear, determined voice. Underneath, golden interference buzzes and splashes at first, while cold light lies over the "thick water.“ Followed by powerful beats setting in as the trumpet fanfares of the chorus herald victory over the elements.

"Golden Stream" is second album of the 24-year-old artist, who lives in Vienna and Berlin - an amazing work. It can be danced to, but one can also listen to it as a conceptual album; it is as full of beats as it is full of thoughts. Rosa Anschütz plays piano, flute and trumpet, she worked a lot with modular synthesizers in the beginning of her career. Her musical awakening experience was the Atonal Festival in Berlin, later she also danced a lot at Berghain, and Berghain DJ Max Kobosil remixed her song "Rigid". Rosa Anschütz reinforces her enormously versatile vocals -ranging from a pleading breath to a cold New Wave speaking voice - with a relentlessly marching four-to-the-floor techno; but underneath it all, lay polyrhythmic deviations again and again. Clattering and trembling, deep basses digging into the ground, while shimmering veils of sound blow from above. Rosa Anschütz follows the traditions of Dark Wave and Postpunk, but carves deep notches of sound sculpture and romantic smoothness. "Goldener Strom" is a great pop album, full of melodies, aphorisms and beats that immediately catch your ear. At the same time, it is a manifesto of artistic sovereignty - precious and wise in our times of streamlined art. A warm welcome to Italian-American producer Matasism, who debuts on BPitch with his four-track EP Can You Feel My Soul. Matasism launched his own label Ma¨ta¨sism in 2017, releasing exclusively via the platform until very recently. He lands on BPitch with an EP that channels the essence of freedom and liberty found in the rave. It’s a compelling EP that blends trance, techno and acid influences into a memory evoking collection of music.

The remake of ‘Can You Feel My Soul’ kicks things off, firing on all cylinders with a hypnotic riff and hea- vyweight kicks. More layers are added to increase the depth and energy, leading into a mesmerising break- down. Meanwhile, the following original mix has a grizzly bassline spliced with hard-hitting beats. On the flip ‘Age Of Fantasy’ opens up with a dramatic intro leading into a powerful, enchanting main riff. Vintage sounds with a contemporary flavour. Berlin techno luminary Ellen Allien turns her attention to the romantic darkwave duo Lebanon Hanover with this double pack of remixes. These cuts began life as personal edits for her own DJ sets in 2019, appearing in many shows since.

First she takes on ‘Living On The Edge’. Larissa’s vocals sit comfortably on top of the club-focused instrumental, which stays true to the original spirit of the song while reconfiguring it for the dancefloor. Ellen’s second remix is a techno reinterpretation of ‘Invite Me To Your Country’. Pulsating kick drums and an air of menace pervade throughout. More

The Alientronic Remixes have landed! - Ellen Allien brings in a stellar line up of artists to put their own spin on tracks from her latest album ‘Alientronic’ for the first of several remix packages. Terence Fixmer and Introversion remix ‘Love Distortion’: Terence rocks out with a gnarly guitar riff and extra bold percussion, while Introversion injects a murky feel to his rework, adding a trance-inspired element to hypnotise the listener and take them to another dimension. Regal drops an ‘XTC Remix’ of ‘Electronic Joy’ with high-octane percussion and an enchanting retro feel. Lastly, there’s a special edit of ‘Love Distortion’ which offers a more restrained version of the killer original.

The shortest connection between the past and the future leads through the music of Boston 168. With Ratchet Traxx the Detroit icon Oldham steals the show once again, serving up four tracks of his quintessentially relentless "Bangin' Funky Ass Techno". Still a bit tipsy and really happy: that is how ELLEN ALLIEN reports back with "Turn Of Your Mind". The title already gives away that the DJ, producer and Label Boss is all about monotony casted in sounds, the mind has left the body and is only moved by the wind of bass and rhythm. "Hoo" and "Off" are the song titles, either fast and captivating, raw like unpolished steel. The tracks have been produced on the legendary Roland Aira TR-8, the Roland TB 303 and a Jupiter Synthie in ELLEN ALLIENs living room - a place that is perfect for profound musical time traveling and were finalized at the Studio later on. The journey goes back to the 1990ies in Berlin, a time where she was playing as a guest and resident in the legendary Clubs like E-Werk, Planet and Tresor letting the music absorb her into Techno and Acid spheres.
