Following ‘Night Moves’ and ‘Kids We Own The Summer’ and its harmonious keyboards, H-Burns goes back to the quintessence of his music style: an impeccable songwriting praised internationally and an interpretation undeniably precise. To narrate in one album the only two stories worth being narrated – the one about a man living his home, and the one about a man coming back to his home – H-Burns (aka Renaud Brustlein) first matured his project isolated in a home-studio owned by French underground collective La Souterraine before bringing it to the studio with a team of musicians and engineers that he meticulously picked as usual : Earl Harvin from Thidersticks on the drums, Kate Stables from This Is The Kit as a vocal guest, Noah Georgeson (The Strokes, Andy Shauf, etc.) for the mixing, etc.
Understandably title ‘Midlife’ this new album recorded on analog tapes tells the story of a man who looks back over the journey of his life, remembering his dreams of glory, the lost love stories, what he left behind from the others and from himself.

H-Burns dropped the plaid shirts. Now here's a great classy band who knows no borders. Off the Map evokes a world with maps and territories which are the cement of the lyrics in total symbiosis with the music: brass performed by the musicians who played on last Wilco's albums, a drummer who hits on a snare drum dating from the 30s, keyboard parts played on vintage instruments that sound as if they had not been practiced for years. Sometimes electric guitar sounds as storm like Crazy Horse used to do it. The voice is a bit broken but lucid, similar to Jason Molina, Will Oldham or Hamilton Leithauser from the Walkmen. A voice that sings as if it wanted something, as if she had lost the way. A voice that tells us we're always near to be off the map.

Two years after the success of Night Moves, a wander through a threatening nocturnal Los Angeles, H Burns returns with a new record for twilight. Kid We Own the Summer finds its identity between a few landmarks such as David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti's California, the intimacy of Bruce Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town, the relative calmness of Suicide's second album, and the elegant melancholy of The National.

In order to compose, Renaud Brustlein aka H Burns decided to reinvent himself once again. He didn't repeat the live configuration that he used in 2013 with Off the Map, an "electric storm" recorded in Chicago, with a band, in a single week, with the legendary Steve Albini. For Kid We Own the Summer, the composer started working in his home studio, by gradual touches, because there's no place like home.

The result? A melancholy cinematic stroll across stories of misguided couples, unspoken words that end-up ruining people's lives, the pursuit of dangerous situations, like an elegy to the end of adolescence - leading to a place we're unsure of. Born from a keyboard, a piano and a beatbox, these ten songs were brought to light, as always with infinite delicacy, by impeccable guests-friends - strings by Bertrand Belin and vaporous keyboards by Denis Clavaizolle (Bashung, Murat, Daniel Darc) - mixed by Rob Schnapf (Elliot Smith, Beck…) and mastered by the great Greg Calbi (Springsteen, Dylan, Paul Simon).
Noisey said of Night Moves that it was the perfect record for "all the cold and sad months to come". Kid We Own the Summer will be the record for our sleepless nights.

"Love will remember Pharaon de Winter", it says at the very end of this record.

Pharaon de Winter was a relatively unsuccessful painter from Northern France. Today it's the name of a band, but also the name of the song that changed its author's life. The ex-leader of the bands Toy Fight and (Please) Don't Blame Mexico - the E.Ps First Aid and Michel Foucault, and the album Concorde, in 2011, with the hit song 'The Protocol' - Maxime Chamoux's musical style could be placed somewhere between North-American rock, Spoon, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Prefab Spout and XTC's sophisticated Brit-pop.

Then, he decided to cut his ties loose: "I was starting to get bored of indie rock and wanted something different", he explains. "I wanted to sing in French. I wanted to use more beautiful chords. For several months, I searched for a new shape and colour to give to these new songs. And one day, I had a kind of revelation. It was called Pharaon de Winter. From that day on, all the music I loved came together in a particular weave".

Now the record is here and features ten songs naturally uniting influences ranging from the popular to the edgy: William Sheller's precise writing, Lucio Battisti's warmth, Steely Dan's refined groove, Arthur Russell's sense of adventure, Véronique Sanson's feel for melody.

The songs travel from French - mainly - to English - a few.
"Love will remember Pharaon de Winter", it says.
Love isn't the only one.
