Electronic explorer James Holden returns with a generically unconstrained new album of rave music for a parallel universe that seeks to reconnect with the feelings of hope, freedom and possibility that characterised the earliest days of dance music, coming to terms with his own musical past in the process.

In contrast to its jazz adjacent live band predecessor The Animal Spirits, Holden's trippy fourth solo artist album is more of a continuous sound collage, artfully juxtaposing audio worlds and field recordings with an anything goes approach in the style of early nineties pastoral classics like The KLF’s Chill Out and the sprawling radioscapes of Future Sound of London.

Physical formats include a colourful 12 page booklet of original illustrations by Jorge Velez (Professor Genius).

The latest addition to the James Holden archive is an album of solo synth work originally written to accompany the critically-acclaimed documentary ‘A Cambodian Spring’: fourteen tracks of pulsing melancholy, foreboding drone and even the occasional burst of beatless trance in the form of the uplifting arpeggios of surefire album highlight ‘Solidarity Theme’. Picking up where his classic 2013 album ‘The Inheritors’ left off (and giving ‘Self-Playing Schmaltz’ a new cinematic airing) Holden’s debut soundtrack project combines the sound palette of his beloved Prophet 600 with a cranky old Hammond organ to showcase the full breadth of his musical tastes across the epic documentary format. The LP includes digital download code and sleevenotes by ‘Imaginary Cities’ author Darran Anderson.

DAYBREAKERS are back from their first dive into the Music Station catalogue and hop from New Jersey to land in Germany’s Black Forest region for 002, more specifically they arrive into a basement in Freiburg.

In 2008, Rainer Trüby started on an album that ended up getting lost due to a crashed macbook. Two tracks were saved from this lost album and see the light of day 17 years later. After playing one of these tracks “Schoko-Bolla” in the woods at “Root Down With Love” at We Out Here 2024, miche and Rainer decided it was finally time to take this secret weapon for a full release.

The A Side is “Schoko-Bolla” features a looping brazilian vocal from an all time great, building gently into a real groove and the B side, a deeper than deep house track with latin elements. House deeper than the Neckar river, perfect for any dancefloor.

Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell – who gives it the full treatment. It’s backed with Kon’s ‘Cool Out Remix’
of ‘Chillin’ Out’, which was met with a great response when released as a digital single earlier
this year, and rightly sees a side of wax.

Loose Joints – Tell You (Today): A Rediscovered Classic Reimagined

Loose Joints was the disco brainchild of Arthur Russell - a visionary composer and producer who helped shape the sound of New York’s underground club scene. Unlike many of his contemporaries who chased polished perfection, Russell embraced rawness and spontaneity. A classically trained musician, he mastered the art of crafting “perfect imperfections,” infusing disco with a punk attitude and an intellectual edge.

“Tell You (Today)” emerged from the same legendary Blank Tape Studio sessions that gave birth to the cult favorite “Is It All Over My Face.” Like its predecessor, it features a cast of handpicked studio luminaries and disco outliers, all guided by Russell’s distinct vision. But while the DNA is similar, this track veers more toward leftfield pop, buoyed by Russell’s unmistakable vocals.

On the A-side, DFP presents a masterfully updated take on Larry Levan’s original remix. Blending unreleased outtakes with refined sonic upgrades, this “Special Version” stays true to the source material - making only the most delicate adjustments to optimize it for today’s dance floors.

The B-side is a gem in its own right. It features the elusive New Shoes Mix with Parts I & II edited here for seamless, continuous play. Long shrouded in confusion due to misprints and misattributions - from the 1983 release to various reissues - while labeled as New Shoes it has in most iterations been a variation of the Larry Levan mix.

Now, for the first time, DFP Vaults is proud to present the New Shoes Mix in its full, 15 minutes, intended glory - finally giving this lost version the recognition it deserves.

The Oganesson Remixes EP follows the March 2025 release of “Oganesson”, which was the first new music released by Tortoise since 2016. The EP includes the original version of “Oganesson” alongside five new remixes of the track created by collaborators and friends of the band, including poet and activist Saul Williams, prolific mastering engineer Heba Kadry, Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney,
indie music icons Broken Social Scene, and International Anthem labelmate
Makaya McCraven. The Oganesson Remixes EP is released ahead of a new album

Raise a snifter to a veteran gem sifter! British Balaearic tastemaker and sonic holidaymaker Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy returns with Balearic Breakfast Volume 4, the latest in her compilation series for Heavenly Recordings. Issued as a limited double 12" and paired with Volume 3 on an extended 19-track CD edition, this fourth instalment continues Murphy's mission to transmute mornings to interstellar beachside joyrides: her Loft-era DJ digging roots shine again once more, as Cosmo pulls on sun-rosed robo disco, jazz, slow-mo electronica and widescreen synthscapery, all eschewing era and origin. Ilya Santana's 'Cosmovision' presages nicely Cosmo's own rework of Saint Etienne's 'Alone Together' and a floor-stretching disco cut of Gloria Ann Taylor's Love Is A Hurtin' Thing rounds out the set sweetly.

The sun has finally come out. It’s the first time something like this has happened for months and months; the first glow of an approaching summer, whatever date the calendar is currently saying it is. The whole thing acts as a curative meditation, miraculously wiping away all the greyness of the past few months. If you’re reading this, we’re assuming that you’re the kind of person who views summer as a state of mind rather than a good looking day on the BBC Weather app. With that in mind, we reckon you already know all about Heavenly Recordings’ series of untouchable, utterly essential Balearic Breakfast compilations, each one lovingly compiled by visionary DJ, producer and broadcaster Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy - the genius club legend whose radio show of the same name (broadcast 10am to high noon every Tuesday via Mixcloud) began as an escape route from the pandemic before rapidly building a global community of dedicated Balearican listeners.

Each Balearic Breakfast album has provided a spiritual getaway from the greyness of the everyday through a handpicked selection of glorious, psychedelically coloured, expansive music. Finally, the pioneering first album from the group that epitomized the spontaneous, simultaneous and glorious emergence of the Hip-Hop and Electro Funk genres is back on vinyl. The song "Where's the Beat" has been extracted due to it's not actually being made by the group, but every other note and beat is included as it was originally released, from the opening narration and the sound effects joining the songs to the classic Hip-Hop and Electrofunk in-between.

Also included for the first time anywhere is the previously unreleased track “Disco Kryptonite”. For 40 years following the release of “Jam On It”, one of the most common requests Cozmo had received was to actually do a song called “Disco Kryptonite”. For the rerelease of Jam On Revenge on vinyl, Cozmo figured it was time. Everybody knew that in the Superman battle in the song “Jam On It”, Jam-On used a song called “Disco Kryptonite” to win the battle. So, this new song had to be worthy of the name.

The battle would have taken place in the late ‘70s in Brooklyn, so Coz figured that the track should have the feel of that era and place. According to Cozmo, “back then, we would often battle with uptempo Funk records that broke down into breaks”. In those days, the term “Disco” was much more generic, and was used across dance genres. So, Coz decided that “Disco Kryptonite” should be an uptempo Funk Break record. However, he still wanted it to have that authentic Newcleus sound. So, he decided to create it as if he had done a ‘70s Funk record as Newcleus in ’84. So, only using the same synths and drum machines that were available in his studio in 1984 and 1985, “Disco Kryptonite” was born. As always, Cozmo draws very heavily on Roland synths such as the Juno, Jupiter and JX series, as well as the Roland TR-707 and TR-727 drum machines. So, Finally, the classic Newcleus album Jam On Revenge is back on vinyl. And, the question “What does “Disco Kryptonite” sound like?” is finally answered. And it is only available on vinyl.
