brendon moeller - Economy
Brendon Moeller offers up his ‘Set In Motion’ EP on Echocord sub-label Echo Echo this September, comprising three originals from the Dub Techno veteran. South Africa, New York based producer and DJ Brendon Moeller aka Beat Pharmacy/Echologist has long been respected as one of the pioneering figures in ethereal, dubbed-out Techno with regular appearances at global hot spots like fabric, Berghain and Cielo as well as releases on labels like Third Ear, Kimochi, Neovinyl and Echocord. Here though we see Moeller joining the roster of the latter’s sublabel Echo Echo, marking its fourth release. Title-track ‘Set In Motion’ leads with Brendon’s signature murky synth textures at its core whilst lumpy low-end tones, shuffled hats and spiraling dub echoes fluidly undulate amongst one another throughout. ‘Eastern Beach’ follows, and as the name would suggest, nods towards brighter sounds with airy pads, soft bell chime synths and pulsating subs driving the composition alongside swinging, heavily reverberated percussion. ‘Economy’ then closes the package, stripping things back to gritty dub stabs, dusty 4/4 drums and billowing noise sweeps.

Esteemed musical chameleon Brendon Moeller, renowned for his highly respected work in Deep Ambient, Dub Techno and a myriad of variations on these themes - turns his hand to 170 for Samurai Music.
Vacuum is the first fruits of this collaboration and encompasses a cross section of his approach to the tempo. Dub-wise 170 that hints at a deeper version of autonomic, but ultimately invents a new sound that only Brendon and his analogue dungeon could conjure. 30 years of mastering the art of the deep filtered through an all new tempo lens.
Vacuum is a gentle 6 track record that will become a close companion to those tuned to, or open to embracing the rewards of Brendons impeccable sound design and mastery of immersive, minimalist warmth.

Brendon Moeller is an artist that needs no introduction. The South African born living in the US, like few of his generation constantly challenges himself with new concepts and ideas, has incorporated techno, dub, jazz, ambient, sound design, to his works throughout the years. Never chased the limelight, but instead the work, one idea after the next, one project after the other, restless. He has collaborated with labels like Echocord, Third Ear, Electric Deluxe, Prologue, Mord to name some. "Materialize" is his first work for Vibrant Music.
From his early days in various bands in the 80's and 90's, Brendon liked indie, shoegaze, ambient, moody, cinematic scapes.
With Materialize he came full circle, reaching out to his early influences, but with the knowledge and experience of many years of exploration of modular synths, to create a concept space that feels intimate, and at the same time vivid evoking visual imaging.
It explores the time space through a minimalist, stoic approach.
It tells the story of how we are all linked into this tree of music we call electronic music, wherever each one is coming from.
A celebration of life through the mind of one of today's scholars of electronic music.
A liberation from the strictness of tempo and metronomes, to reach to a more creative state.
Vibrant Music continuous the quest, to bring to you unique collaborations and sides of artists that we like.

Brendon Moeller returns to Third Ear after some years, following up his lauded Jazz Junk Safari trilogy of eps with 4 peak time bombs. All 4 tracks blow up the dance floor. Brendon Moeller known for his sound design, has taken his sonics to extremes on all four tracks, pushing, twisting and teasing frequencies to the limit. The bass on all tracks is phenomenal. It's just as well that a master engineer like Pole has mastered these tracks, maxing out the sound yet protecting the sound systems that these bombs will be played on. Super fun.

The new bomb on Echocord Colour comes from Brendon Moeller. Brendon already did releases on Echocord and Echocord Colour before, also on his monikers Echologist and Beat Pharmacy. Words from the artist: Much in line with the label aesthetic, I set out with these trax to explore the dubbier hypnotic side of techno music. My goal was to present 3 trax that could be played at different times of the evening because tthere's nothing like giving a DJ who has to carry a bag of vinyl around the world a record where each track can be played in one night! of course, the question rremains, are you a DJ that wants to play 3 trax like this? if yes, buy this now.

Whetting appetites for 'Works'-Brendon Moeller's ninth studio album and his first full-length for Speedy J's compound techno stable-Electric Deluxe present the 'Wanderer EP', with remixes from CLR's Tommy Four Seven and Argentine vanguard Jonas Kopp. Since relocating to New York from South Africa, Moeller has spent the last twenty years cultivating his dub techno legacy. As Beat Pharmacy and Echologist he has employed jazz, afrobeat and psychedelic semblances to redefine Basic Channel foundations, whilst producing a stockpile of records under his own name for labels like Echocord, Mule and Third Ear Recordings. In 2009 Moeller launched Steadfast, which has continued to be a platform for his more diverse projects-including the deep house collaboration with Chicago-based Area, as Lightness, and his last Echologist album, 'Subterranean'. Taken from 'Works' scheduled for release in April 2012 -Moeller's idiosyncratic reflection upon "the spirit of techno"-"Wanderer" nods to the genre's dark and industrial side, whilst it's crashing hats and surging bass allude to Berlin and the artist's fomented Berghain affiliation. Growling, guttural strata and robotic peals further cement it as one of Moeller's more dystopian creations and most driving effort to date. Jonas Kopp toughens "Wanderer" into one of his signature marching workouts, sliced with urgent stabs. Tommy Four Seven on the other hand picks up the track's shimmering melody-at the fore in its pre-mastered state, made available here in digital form-and tousles it with his distinctive bone-crushing beatwork and crunchy, field-generated padding. Electric Deluxe are proud to announce Works, the ninth studio album from dub techno purveyor Brendon Moeller. Conceived in late 2010 and inchoately developed during a spell in Amsterdam with EDLX head Jochem Paap overseeing the project, Works flaunts Moeller at the height of danceabilty whilst remaining true to his steeped lineage as a maker of textured, atmospheric and subaqueous electronic music.
"I began thinking hard about what kind of album I was trying to make. After much pondering I decided the best way forward would be to make an album that reflects both my own idiosyncrasies as well as try and capture what I believe to be the spirit of techno."
After the experimental Subterranean-a near beatless record comprised from a single live mixdown of sounds collated over the course of a year-under his Echologist moniker, Works shifts focus back to the dance floor with a collection of propulsive techno tracks, saturated with the visceral groove that has come to define Moeller's discography. From the submerged and spacious "Writing Wrongs" and bleepy, strung-out antics of "Far Out" to the house-kissed "Take A Dive Into The Sound" and darker, chugging cuts that close Works, the album pools together the threads of a prolific production history, spanning almost two decades, into a single succinct long player.
"It was the final stages of putting together the album where I went into a sort of manic obsessive behavior. I knew the clock was ticking and I desperately wanted to be sure that every track, every mix of every track was as good as it could be. Jochem's feedback and tactful suggestions helped shape these tracks into what they are now. I'm super proud of these and simply cannot wait to hear them on different sound systems all over the world."
With a particular nod to his other Beat Pharmacy alias-affiliated exclusively with Francois K's Deep Space Media label and New York party- Moeller's expansive output has fused dub and techno with jazz, afrobeat and psychedelic pastiches to carry on as much as refashion Basic Channel heritage into his own distinctive patois. But what makes Works a truly unique product of his is Paap's influence over the record. "Off The Grid", "Wanderer" and "Adjust To The Fading Light" are as some of the toughest bass-driven efforts from Moeller to date, balancing some of the album's brighter tracks like "In Pursuit" with techno's pounding industrial heartbeat. The result is an eclectic imagining of the genre-showing the many sides and emotions of techno, and Moeller himself.

3.In Pursuit
4.Far Out

Brendon Moeller's long player homage to "the spirit of techno" 'Works', Electric Deluxe taps two of the album's polar moments for remixes to deliver Work Ethics.
Selecting one of Works' toughest tracks for the A-side, "Adjust to the Fading Light", the EP opens with a rare vocal refix from Berghain resident Ben Klock. Whilst difficult to pin Klock's productions to any particular style, as a remixer he's proven even more versatility and vision, reworking artists as diverse as Martyn, Kenny Larkin and Depeche Mode to Emptyset and Steve Bug. Meanwhile Moeller mutes the hats and brings the track's whirring dystopian bed to the fore with his Echologist version, jettisoning its original surge for more swollen and experimental terrains.
On the flip, Works' luscious dubbed out number "Writing Wrongs" is pulled further apart and dragged to dark subaqueous depths by Echospace duo Rod Modell and Stephen Hitchell as cv313. Melbourne-based producer Craig McWhinney on the other hand takes "Writing Wrongs" in the other direction entirely, soaring past Moeller's original to conclude Work Ethics on a hazy sun kissed dub trip that's altogether soothing, light and mesmerising.

Echocord sub-label Echo Echo returns with its first release of 2019 this May, coming courtesy of son.sine with his ‘Variable States’ EP. Leyton Glen aka son.sine is a relatively new name to most having only released a handlful of EP’s to date, initially in 2000 he released ‘Upekah’ via the Nurture imprint before Delsin recognized its timeless quality and re-issued it in 2013, a testament to Glen’s sole work. Here though we see Echo Echo mark a return for son.sine with a new EP of original material, his first in four years. The thirteen minute ‘Uncertainty’ opens, driven by hazy atmospherics, pulsing acid bass tones and murky sub bass while glitched out percussion subtly carries the cinematic groove. ‘Evident Topology’ follows, taking a more robust approach with jittery low-end chops, expansive dub chords and an amalgamation of emotive strings and jazzy bass licks ebbing and flowing within. ‘Three Linear Decay’ then rounds out the package via skippy organic drums, ethereal pad swells and metallic bleeps. son.sine’s ‘Variable States’ EP is out on Echo Echo 3rd May 2019.

Roberto Clementi delivers his 'Cadmio’ EP on Echocord sub-label Echo Echo this October, containing four original tracks from the Italy-based artist. Kenneth Christiansen’s Echo Echo imprint, offers up its fifth release here, accurately reflecting his appetite for the more celestial, dubbed out side of techno. This release sees the return of Roberto Clementi to the Echo platform after three releases on the parent imprint, Echocord plus 10 years worth of released music to his name, notably a number of EP’s and an album on Soma. The EP kicks off with a fresh dub induced charmer entitled 'Conte’, which in Italian translates to 'with you’, and stands as an accurate tag for this warm and intimate opener. 'Irradi’ follows, a more upbeat and industrious dance track – with euphoric synth lines sitting harmoniously in between the more uniform percussion before stimulating crashing symbols are introduced in the latter stages. Title-track 'Cadmio’ is up next, a more dropped-tempo, electro tinged number, with off-kilter drum patterns gracefully balancing amongst the alluringly sedative melody. The B2 and final track 'Blue Growth’ then provides a close to the EP with a lo fi 4/4 drum pattern together with hardened snares and crashes contrasted by delicate dub swells providing feelings of symmetry – a theme that is consistent throughout the whole EP.

Echocord’s Echo Echo sub-label continues with its third releases this August, courtesy of German producer and Credo founder Alex Bau with his ‘Zenstory’ EP. Germany’s Alex Bau has been a prominent name on the underground DJ circuit on his home turf, and further afield, for three decaces as well as racking up an impressive back catalogue as a recording artists for labels like Cocoon, CLR, Sleaze and of course his very own Credo label which has been a platform predominantly for his own material whilst welcoming the likes of Kyle Geiger, Takkyu Ishino and Electric Rescue onto the imprint also. Here though we see Bau joining the roster of Echocord’s fledgling sub-label Echo Echo with a new four-track EP and taking the lead on the package is ‘Clouds’ with pulsating low-end tones, hissing analogue noise and dusty drums samples all flowing in unison with ethereal chords and sweeping pads. ‘Contour’ follows, tipping the focus over to bubbling delayed stab hits, fluttering sub bass and evolving white noise bursts throughout. The ‘Prelude’ of ‘Zenstory’ opens the flip side and as the name would suggest it’s a cinematic build up to the title-track featuring tension-building, expansive atmospherics ahead of the original mix which features a thumping muted kick, stuttering atmospheric echoes and spoken word vocal tucked into the depths of the record.

Echocord sub-label Echo Echo continues this July with Orbite’s ‘Interstellar’ EP, a threetracker from the Berlin- based producer. Orbite is a brand new project founded in Berlin, Germany with a nod towards the raw, dubby sounds often heard across the clubs in the city, and where better to inaugurate things than the recently launched sub-label of Copenhagen’s Echocord, one of the leading imprints in the realms of Dub Techno, home to pioneering acts like Rod Modell/Deepchord, Pole and Fluxion who have paved the way for Orbite’s own twist on the genre. The ethereal pad textures of ‘Skylar’ lead on the package, deftly evolving alongside bubbling synth tones, swelling chords and shuffled percussion to create a create dynamically unfolding six and a half minute cut. ‘Moment’ follows, edging things further into dubbed-out territories with heavily delayed dub echoes and mesmeric spoken word poetry intertwining to create a, hypnotic beatless soundscape. ‘Organi’ closes the record with emotive, billowing pads, warm bell like tones and vocal murmurs running alongside swinging shakers and stripped-back micro-house percussion.

Mid June will see the launch of Echocord sub-label Echo Echo with the ‘Dream Observer’ EP from Grad_u. Copenhagen’s Echocord is a Dub Techno imprint with a history dating back fifteen years and a back catalogue featuring material from genre defining artists like Deepchord, Fluxion, Sven Weisemann, Pole and grad_u who launches the new off shoot imprint Echo The release opens with ‘Jacob’s Dream’, fifteen minutes of release date: subtly modulating synth glitches, ethereal synth drones, sweeping atmospherics and dubby echoes creating a hypnotic, ever-unfolding composition. ‘Observing The Night Sky’ then follows on the flip side with thunderous kick drums, rumbling low-end pulses, wandering dub chords and bubbling glitches all subtly nuanced throughout the tracks ten-minute duration.
