Frits Wentink's Bobby Donny label welcomes Reykjavík producer Felix Leifur for more lush house explorations across four new cuts. The producer last released on this label in 2017 and his new one finds him again exploring deep and organic grooves, rough drums and jazzy pads.
The Tarleton Appreciation Club' has real, live sounding drums making for a spaced out house cut coloured with dreamy pads and muffled vocal samples that have an aching beauty. 'Parts' is a brilliantly jazzy jam with bright chord vamps, wooden hits and clipped vocals making for a track somewhere between the styles of Moodymann and Max Graef. Robbi' is another atmospheric track with pads and intimate melodies lingering in the air above choppy drum work that makes you want to wiggle. Closing things down is 'Juledreng', another perfectly roughed up bit of house with saturated chords and tons of reverb drawing you into its cosy little world. More

Track list:
A1. Between Us
A2. Hamburg 3011
B1. Pinot Noir 1985
B2. Modern Soul Classics
B3. Merlot 1988
Release Info:
Felix has been working his Studio hard this past summer and caned out a whole bunch of awesomeness! We are more than pleased to welcome him back on Dirt Crew this year after his excellent new EP on “Bobby Donny” and the “Buster” jam for our “Deep Love 2018” compilation.
The A-side starts off with “Between US”, a cool, pump-y and jazzy track with a hypnotic tribal bongo rhythm that winds up in that typical Leifur swirl. Followed by the super deep “Hamburg 3011” that flicks an off-beat mash up of soul, guitar samples and funk hi-hat vs snare groove that is just irresistible dance floor goodness, we can’t wait to drop this on a massive sound system.
Over to the musical world of that B-side! What can we say, Felix changed his style quite a lot here and delivers some bang on Electro with “Pinot Noir 1985” that just bounces in yer face with a dope ass beat keeping those typical Leifur flavors alive with a warped piano loop and delayed vocal snips. Second is the almost garage-y tune “Modern Soul Classics” with massive subs underlaying the “Rhodes” and drum cut ups, moody and deep in his signature style. The closing track is a real Icelandic Bossa Nova affair! Silky ‘n smooth again he works that piano loop towards eternity, we love this piece a lot! Reminding us of past 90s electronica by the likes of “Sabres of Paradise” or “Nightmares on Wax”. The best ending to this EP we could have hoped for!
Enjoy this varied ‘n eclectic EP by our Icelandic talent Felix Leifur and make your Autumn a hot one by dropping these jams on the floor!

Release Info:
New kid Felix Leifur made quiet a stir with his debut release on Dirt Crew last year. The Icelandic juggernaut comes from the striving Reykjavik music scene and is working closely with the "Lagaffe Tales" guys on building a new northern House empire. Since his debut he's been working hard on creating a more varied vision of his unique lo slung hip hop approach to house music. With this EP he offers six new outings that have one thing in common, very warm and moody sounds ranging from Disco through jazz and hip hop. We're certain that he will continue to further cement his name in the coming years and we're looking forward to working with him on plenty of exciting projects.
Opening with "Eyelids", Felix delivers a rough, deep and dark house cut with broken beats, warped piano loops and twisted sampling throughout. "Classy" has a smoky jazz feeling, kept tight with clever beat programming while evolving around a catchy sax motif. Our personal fav is the title track, "In General", a stunning broken beat house jam, smooth and loose, with swirling keys and a funk flavoured bass.
The B-side begins with "Midwinter", a dance floor gem on a straight up junket. It's deep, forward moving and bass driven, much like his track "Feels Like" that featured on our Deep Love compilation in 2016. Yet another highlight for us is "Apollo", there's not many records out there that sound quite like this, thoroughly warped and contorted, depraved strings and a hypnotising Rhodes arc and strain until the bass drops and it all falls in place…Psychedelic beauty! He closes with "Mine", a dope lo fi hip hop beat that casually wraps our ears, an ice cold soul infused piece.

Track list:
A1 - Berg Toppur
A2 - Giving
B1 - The Sunday Club
B2 - Berg Toppur (Hidden Spheres "Rocky Top" Remix)
Release Info:
Introducing Felix Leifur, Dirt Crew's latest discovery, an all new, raw and savvy talent from Reykjavík, Iceland. Reykjavík has a population of just over 120,000, so the disco, hip hop and soul sampling, house music community that Felix rolls with is pretty tight knit, giving him a unique and inspired perspective on the sound. Remixing is friend of the label, Manchester's Hidden Spheres. After breaking through on our 'Deep Love 10' compilation, he went on to drop his 'Waiting' EP last summer on 'Distant Hawaii' (the dreamy offshoot of 'Lobster Theremin').
On the A, 'Berg Toppur', is a dance floor workout, a sublime balance of shimmering rhodes and vibrant arps with slamming organic percussion. 'Giving' is a spirited and warbling cut, crooning vocals and gritty horn blasts punctuate it's steady groove and loose live clap. This one's got open air written all over it.
On the B-side, 'The Sunday Club' is a eclectic and somewhat eccentric jam, samples from across decades, weave together to create something altogether new. Next up, Hidden Spheres' "Rocky Top" remix of 'Berg Toppur' eases in with a casual vibe, steamy drums, and a no-nonsense bass line set the pace, while the arps and elated vocals from the original sweep and soar, building to a feverish peak of sun-scorched bliss. Finally, 'Wait' sets the mood with a dusty jazz piano refrain and a strutting groove, before bringing the playful yet punchy trip home with a solid head-nodding bass line.
Felix Leifur's diverse ear and distinct style gives 'The Sunday Club' EP the perfect blend of breezy summertime spirit and serious night club heat.

The Bobby Donny label hits number four with a first EP of 2016. After efforts from label owner Frits Wentink and Eindhoven producer SAN2, this one comes from Tlim Shug. The low-profile American producer has only one EP to his name so far, but it was an impressive one that came on Echovolt Records last year and suggested he has a passion for moody and lo-fi deep house. Rari Techno is up first and operates in an underground cavern. It sets a sombre tone with its swirling pads and buried deep kicks all obscured by a grainy sheen of dust. That analogue warmth continues with Wig $plit which has a loose and raw percussive line laid over tender piano chords, bumpy drums and a gritty vocal r It's a fresh fusion that will get clubs on their toes before 'Mutuality' again sounds all knackered and broke, scuffed up and imperfect with its squelchy synths, off time hits and stuttering kicks. Last of all Overcaste Tune is another zoned out and moody deep house offering that sounds like L.I.E.S. artist Terekke at his best. This is a brilliantly insular and atmospheric EP that oozes subtle emotion and a cautious sense of optimism.

For the second release on Frits Wentink's new Bobby Donny label, he hands over to San2, aka Geert Schilder. Hailing from Eindhoven in the south of the Netherlands, Schilder takes his production name from the building which houses his studio, on the second floor of the SAN building where the legendary radios and tape recorders were built by Philips. With this in mind, it seems to follow suit that his music is mainly produced with analog techniques, incorporating equipment like the Roland TR-606, SH-101, SBX-1 and AKAI MPC 2000XL. The EP opens with the title track, 'Impartial Perspective' with its marching beat gradually forming into a machine groove that's raw and funk-fuelled. Moving on to San2's second track, 'Distinguishing Bias' sits perfectly alongside the kind of wonky house manoeuvres that Frits is also known for. And talking of Mr. Wentink, the EP also includes his remix of 'Impartial Perspective', which twists up the original into a deep and trippy, lo-fi journey, while still maintaining the raw groove of the original. Released early September, San2's 'Impartial Perspective' is a great addition to what's already becoming a quality label. Look out for more releases on the horizon soon!

Frits Wentink launches his new label Bobby Donny with 'Live Fast, Dwayne Young'. Bobby Donny has been set up to primarily feature Frits Wentink's own tracks, but focusing on the wonkier, more lo-fi house edge of his sound. The emphasis will be on tracks that are hardware jams on Rhodes, Juno 60 or mpc, then structured later. Frits Wentink has already garnered a huge fanbase for his quirky, innovative and characterful house music on a number of forward thinking labels like Wolfskuil, 2020Vision, Heist and Wolf with his recent debut album, 'Rarely Pure, Never Simple' on the latter, gaining much critical acclaim. His first EP on Bobby Donny opens with 'Dwayne Young', which puts the fun into funky with its deep vibe, filtered vocals and creative samplings. Slowing it down, 'Rio' is next, like a short but sweet interlude of off-kilter slow-mo experimentation. Then it's back to the grooving house beats of 'Guacamole' with its jazzy backbone, before the melodious 'Q&A' kicks in, featuring a gorgeously wobbly overtone. 'Aquarelle' is a perfect ending, with distorted elements gradually coming together to find their harmonious compromise. With 'Live Fast, Dwayne Young' Frits Wentink once again displays the hugely creative talents of this much sought after producer.
