In the early 2000s Derek Carr's notoriety for producing high fidelity techno was understated and unbefitting to the quality of his musical output. In 2016 For Those That Knoe initiated an acclaimed series of EPs which showcased unheard material alongside some long lost vinyl only classics from Derek's archive. Cut to now and the imprint has put together something truly special: a raid on dusty record shelves have been traded for one into the binary world, For Those That Knoe has selected 17 recordings only previously available on the digital format or previously unreleased, now remastered and pressed onto physical form.

Derek Carr is smoldering hot at the moment. His every release is being greeted as an instant classic by the Deep House community. So it seems well-timed, then, that he'd run headlong into Love Notes (from Brooklyn), who have been on a not unimpressive run themselves. Perhaps expectedly, this Detroit vibes abound on the record; from the rich strings of Sidewinder (the most dancefloor friendly track here), through the spaced out breakbeat of the title track, down to beautiful, UR-esque closing strains of Indigo. A well curated EP from an artist at the pinnacle of his game.

Originally pressed in finite numbers, the records have recently found themselves in demand on Discogs, and rightly so, Derek's music is in a class of its own. Having been a big fan since his releases on then local (to label owner Ben) Leeds label Geek records, For Those That Knoe has dug deep into the archives to put together a sizeable selection of Derek's back catalogue, with some unreleased gems dotted amongst the classic must-haves, spread across three EPs Part three in Derek's starts with Cuba, probably the most sought after track in his back catalogue. It's stunning simplicity and charming summer vibe puts it amongst Derek's greatest works and understandably so. Red then slots into the A2 position which was originally released under the radar on a Headspace compilation. As warm as Cuba but with an added touch of melancholy. Truly outstanding deep house. Iceberg takes things back more into techno territory with a funked up bass line, stepping rhythms, Detroit strings and those trademark twinkly leads. Finally Penthouse Apartment 3AM a lush electro breakbeat track from the very hard to find Trident release, rounds off the EP with aplomb.

Bob is a spacey and sparse melodic electro gem taken from the unreleased archives. L’Equipe on the flip was one of the standout cuts on Derek’s solo EP on Headspace Recordings, pure unadulterated deep house. Museum Piece is a groovy ambient electro jam ripped from DAT and slotted into the B2.

"Abyssopelagic" is the third release on Tresor Berlin resident Marcel Heeses label Finitude Music. This time he teamed up with d_func. aka legendary Berlin producer Alexander Kowalski who has been around for almost 20 years and surely needs no further introduction. The title track is a slow piece of nautical Techno aiming at the bigger floors. As the title suggests the B-Side includes a stripped-down version of "Abyssopelagic" for the deeper moments on the floor.

The original Adventures in Techno Soul compilation was released back in 1996 with remixes of Ferox tracks from the likes of Derrick Carter, Carl Craig and Kenny Dixon Jr. A full 16 year's after its follow up "Further Adventures in Techno Soul" comes this 8 track album of new and unreleased material on double vinyl from 8 different and exciting artists. Ferox is proud to welcome established and respected producers such as Fred P and Germany's Move D to the roster, as well as a welcome return from Affie Yusuf, Nebraska and Bush Funk (Steve O'Sullivan and Winlord X) who were last seen on Soma Records back in 1996. This return of Ferox records sees an enthusiastic response from all. The label has forthcoming releases from many original Ferox artists and some new recruits and collaborations along the way. This, the first release in 5 years, sees label head-honcho Russ Gabriel in action under his Too Funk guise. From the first 'Return Of Too Funk EP' to the later 'Hotel Ibis' and Derrick Carter's remix of 'Venus Fly Trap', Russ's Too Funk grooves have been jacking dance floors on both sides of the Atlantic since 1995. This latest offering, 'Phase 3', is a 45 rpm two tracker of House goodness only available on vinyl. No clear favourite has emerged from the two sides, among the selective few that have heard it. Like much of the wealthy Ferox catalogue before it, this is proper House Music with an electric twinge.
