In 2016 For Those That Knoe initiated an acclaimed series of EPs which showcased unheard material alongside some long lost vinyl only classics from Derek's archive. If you've listened to previous Derek Carr releases then you know what to expect - the beats flutter with thoughtful programming and the synths cartwheel through expressive patterns that speak to the same sci-fi fantasies that made B12 so iconic in the early 90s. There's also space for a little subtle electro, as on the haunting "Time Out," bringing a touch of versatility to the record without breaking that shimmering vintage techno haze.

The mighty Casey is up to bat once again for Love Notes from Brooklyn. This time, though, it's a more complete three track artist EP on offer. The music, of course, encapsulates everything that's great about Casey's sound: the lush pads, the crispy percussion, the emotional strings, and the dance-floor destroying basslines. Alternative Faction utilizes one such dancefloor destroying bassline to create a real fist pumping moment in the title track; That Time of Year uses a wriggly acid synth line over the aforementioned emotional strings, and to great effect; and New Mission ends the EP in a unwavering fashion; with heartstring-tugging, terk jerking, emotional pads over an acid line in signature Casey Tucker fashion. Dare we say yet another classic both artist and label's catalog?

These are Love Notes" from Chicago this time as the Brooklyn based label offers a platform for a glimpse into the state of the Chicago undergound. Three original tracks from Chicago man-about-town, Shmoo, and a remix from one of the brightest lights in Chicago's modern scene and one of the more exciting young American producers out there, Garrett David. Standout tracks are Sidehacker, which opens the EP and is a wild ride through swirling pads, with a bedrock bassline that holds everything together, and David's remix of Intuitive Intellect's Waste, wherein he crafts the track into a very modern sounding slice of uplifting house. Another choice EP from this label.

Love Notes (from Brooklyn) serves up another winner, this time with the sonic stylings of the illustious (and also Brooklyn based) Octo Octa, whose not unimpressive discography already includes releases on such heavyweight labels such as Running Back, Argot, and Deepblak. From the opening, echoed chords and unique percussive qualities of Eyes Low, through the spaced out funk of Touch Formation, to the early morning vibes of I Feel, this EP delivers on all levels. This is the 9th release on this fine American imprint and they show no signs of slowing down their sonic agenda.

The first place the world heard the lead track from this new Love Notes from Brooklyn release, "Where Pathways Meet", was on Deep House legend Mike Huckaby's My Life with the Wave show volume 2. Pascal Viscardi was one of many great artists to take Huckaby's warm tones and turn them into a work of art. "Pathways..." wriggles with deep funk and soul, and is paired with 3 other likeminded tracks for this very well-rounded EP. "Oshakusan" is the dancefloor track, juxtaposing warm chords and an insistent sax sample over the a tough bassline and rhythm combination that's aimed staight at the floor. "Free at Dawn" is the fathoms deep effort, going miles below the surface in a emotional expression of soul, and "And I Showed the Clouds (How to Cover Up a Clear Blue Sky)" provides a perfect outtro, and end to the statement made, making this EP feel truly complete.

Original music by Casey Tucker, whose recent releases on Boe off-shoot, For Those Who Knoe, Inspired Jay to seek him out. On remix duties, Italy's underground don, Nick Anothony Simoncino, of L.I.E.S., Echovolt, Skywax, Quintessentials, and his own label, Hotmix, to name but a few.
