Brunn wrote and produced all tracks between 2017 and 2018; In contrast to most releases that were limited to one or two synthesisers, this time a whole array of instruments was used: tELHARMONIC, Music Thing Modular Chord Organ, Doepfer A-111-3V Precision VCO, 4ms STS, Yamaha DX7, Clavia Nord Modular G1 & G2. The long-player comes after a collaborative album with Dave Wheels out on Sushitech early this year, and will be followed by one together with Move D, via Smallville in 2020. More

Back in 2012, Benjamin Brunn played a heartbreaking ambient liveset at the almighty Golden Pudel Club, Hamburg. His Set was recorded and released as a CD on Pudel Produkte. As it was the perfect soundtrack for the lazy days at Smallville Recordstore, we all felt the urge to release this on Vinyl- and during a blurry Smallville night at Pudel, we decided to do it. Benjamin cut out two parts of 20 minutes each and here it is as a limited Recordstore Day 2015 Item.

Benjamin Brunn's first full-length since Songs From The Beehive with Move D, leaving aside his recent Colour Tracks which was a history of EDM. Ranging from Techno to Ambient on this album, his use of the Nord Modular synth is one of the defining characteristics of his sound. He uses the instrument in a wide-ranging and original way, accompanied by a Roland TR707 drum machine. Compiled over two years from tracks sent to Third Ear, A Sun Life shows Benjamin Brunn achieving something like a perfection of his sound. For more than a year, Third Ear and Benjamin have been selecting tracks for this ep and for an album to follow later in the year. The wait was largely due to the track No Kicks, which initially used a Chuck D acapella, titled No. When Third Ear couldn’t get clearance for the acapella, we suggested to Benjamin that we try and think of another poet/rapper who could produce an original lyric inspired by Chuck D’s flow. After some thought we suggested Diamondancer, who was inspired to write the lyric she performs here. Stay Hungry Stay Foolish and Acidic Sun are delicious and dreamy, with a fat pulsing groove. Hello Ammmerika is more urgent, pushing the groove constantly.

Tikita return with more of their deep and groovy techno, this time from Lapien, who is one half of Artefakt and a master of deep voodoo sounds. His 'Brumal' EP includes a remix from label mainstays natural/electronic.system. that completes a deep and powerful three track disc.
Lapien s 'Brumal' kicks off with deep, swirling pads and punchy drums. It s soft and atmospheric techno with a dubby bottom end and cosmic moods that is soothing and warm. The natural/electronic.system. remix of 'Moonset' is simmered down into an absorbing ambient soundscape with rolling, rubbery drums deep down below. It s thoughtful mind music to get utterly lost in. Last of all, the original 'Moonset' is another richly layered and spacious techno groove, with gentle percussion over underlapping drums and synths smearing out in all directions. It s brilliantly expansive music for intimate dance floors. More

Berlin-based producer Lapien serves up an atmospheric three tracker on Radio Slave’s Rekids. Also known as Metropolis or one half of Artefakt, Nick Lapien’s last three releases have landed on Finale Sessions, Fred P’s Soul People Music and DVS1’s Mistress Recordings. Releasing on Rekids, the multifaceted Dutch artist’s next outing features three mesmerising cuts with the dusky ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ initiating the package using infectious hats, subtle sub-bass and an indistinguishable vocal that ebbs subtly in and out of the mix. ‘As It Is’ is the most robust number on the package with its undulating percussion and moody chords taking centre stage, until ‘Vexed’ concludes everything with gloomy pads, shuffling hats and echoing effects. On the second part of his simultaneously released Something To Show You EP series, Nick Lapien moves further towards late night techno territory. This is evident from the very start, with opener "Searching" delivering the perfect blend of layered, undulating rhythms, spacey riffs, and hypnotic, early morning atmospherics. It's there, too, on the cascading deep house synths and freshly baked grooves of "Moon", and "Wild For The Night", whose bold analogue bassline and yearning vocal samples propel the tracks forwards. Following a brief hiatus, DVS1's Mistress Recordings label returns with its' first release of 2016. Something To Show You is an expansive, two-part E.P fron Nick Lapien, the Dutch producer who has previously impressed with solo 12" singles under his surname on Bliq and Finale Sessions, along with work as Metropolis and part of Artefakt. There's much to enjoy on this first part, which sees Lapien deliver trippy, late night workouts that sit somewhere between ultra-deep house and Detroit techno. It's an atmospheric formula that works wonderfully, particularly on "Something To Tell You" - where bluesy vocal samples weave their way around a deep, locked-in groove - and the up-tempo bump of tech-house hustler "No Good". London’s Release/Sustain imprint returns this April with a four-track package featuring material from Eduardo De La Calle, XDB, Joey Anderson Moody Waters feat. Carolina Damas.
The Release/Sustain imprint has gone from strength to strength over the years, welcoming the likes of Alton Miller, DJ Aakmael, Benjamin Brunn, Losoul, Norm Talley and many more respected names in underground house and techno over its past twenty nine releases.
Here we see this continue with some more welcome additions, first up is Eduardo De La Calle with ‘The Protosoul’ and as always the Spanish artist offers up a perfectly crafter slice of hazy, groove-driven Techno, led by bleepy arps, winding stabs and robust analogue rhythms. XDB then offers up heady, subtly blooming leads, pulsing subs and shuffled drums with ‘Another Night’ next.
Opening the flip is New York’s Joey Anderson with ‘Drum Play’ which as the name suggest sees the percussive aspects dynamically evolve throughout amongst choppy bass hits, stutter arpeggio blips and warm string melodies. Moody Waters then teams up with Carolina Damas, vocalist on anthemic house cut ‘Sueno Latino’ for ‘Acid Lovin’’, edging into deeper territory with ethereal pads, crunchy drums and squelching 303 licks while Damas’ soft, spoken-word Latin vocals wander within.

London/Lisbon label Release/Sustain start the year as they mean to go on. Presenting a 4 track various artists 12’’ titled _Nightfall and Other Stories_. The record is comprised of 4 artists the Label regard as legends of that deeper dance floor sound. Opening proceedings on A1 is *Dekmantel* mainstay *Vakula*. A regular at the Release/Sustain ‘Conclave’ parties and part of the RS family His offering, _809,_ is a percussive drum tool trip of a track, with sporadic raw percussion shooting shining across a positively minimalist backing. For A2, we see Italian stalwart of underground dance music, *L.I.E.S* & *Crème Organization* regular, *Simoncino*. Obscure sample work, and a repeating line ‘i can use a friend’, twist and turn over rugged, thumping, functional drums and bass. Simoncino at his best! Furthering the quality of this standout 12’’ is Chicago house music pioneer, and *Dance Mania* alumini *Vincent Floyd*. Rich in melody and familiar classic house sounds, Reggie’s soft jacking house sound bring a silky smooth, North American touch to a previously rugged, European 12 slab of wax. London-based imprint Release Sustain returns with 'Wiring Range' EP by L.A born now Berlin-based Alland Byallo, backed with remixes from Safeword and Brooks Mosher. Release Sustain was launched in 2009 out of East London, and its roster boasts the likes of Brendon Moeller, Himan, Inxec and Gabbi Lopez delivering contemporary electronic music with its focused tipped towards the dark and edgy sounds in house and techno. Here the label welcomes back Alland Byallo, following his 'High Stakes' cut, which featured on the labels 'Deepest London Vol.3' compilation last year. The release opens with original version of title track 'Wiring Range' here, employing raw shuffling drums, eerie atmospherics and a penetrating electronic bass hook as its driving force, the records slowly blooms in such a state before its focal point introduces a dubbed out synth stab and hi-strings further fuelling its energy. Following we have Mobilee and Dessous artists Safeword's remix of 'Wiring Range' remix, stripping things back to a raw, drum-focused gritty vibe, the duo introduce a heady saw wave bass hook that subtly varies throughout the trace, while soft ethereal pads and whispering synth lines flutter in the depths of the background. Entering the B-Side we have 'A Red Dilemma', embracing a similar dark aesthetic, yet infused with a more progressive, rolling feel. The track blooms in true house fashion easing in new elements and subtle additions every thirty-two bars; the centre stages see a dreamy ethereal pad introduced, further fuelling its musicality and tasteful intelligent approach. To close the release Dolly artist Brooks Mosher reworks 'A Red Dilemma' into a synth driven workout, opting for an amalgamation of synth elements to lead the way, alongside weighty, bumping drums. Mosher instills his signature sound on the remix tightly blending sounds to create an ever-evolving dynamic. More
