the label say: What is soul really? The answer to that is a various as the music that claims it. We here at WPH HQ do not know the answer either, but we do know an exceptional piece of music when we hear it. Enter Fabrice Lig, Belgian techno legend with his roots in our little country and his ears definitely in that place called Detroit.

Belgian techno OG Fabrice Lig returns to Systematic with one of his most personal and moving EPs to date: ‘Black Monday’ His most substantial release on Marc Romboy’s label since his ‘Purple Raw’ series a few years back, each track is written as a special tribute to four people who’ve had a massively positive impact on Fabrice’s life, but have sadly since passed on. Expressing himself in the most honest, articulate way he can, this one runs deeper than deep.

fabrice lig - Noise’s Revolt
Radio Slave’s R-Time returns with three unreleased Fabrice Lig productions from the vaults spanning over two decades. Scanning through his discography, Fabrice Lig’s reputation for producing some of house and techno’s most brilliant music is indisputable. R&S, Subject Detroit, Planet E, F-Communications, Versatile, KMS... these are only a handful of respected labels which the Belgian artist has released on. Lig now joins Matt Edwards’ prestigious vinyl reissue label with three never-released tracks showcasing a sound and style that have withstood the test of time. ‘The Meeting’ is the most recent track on the package, delivering glorious enveloping plucks over shining string chords before Lig’s signature funky melodies glide amidst jazzy cymbal rides. On the flip, ‘Nebula 101’ is a retro minimal track recorded in 2015 featuring a wonky rhythm, Shruti synth bass and piercing Roland Sh101 stabs until the high octane ‘Noise Revolt’, which was recorded in 1995, concludes the package with thundering 909 drums, echoing snares and relentless Sh101 synths.

Belgium based Fabrice Lig is nothing else than a phenomenon of techno music. The list of high profile imprints where he released his music, like Planet E, R&S, KMS, Third Ear and Playhouse is unique. More than a year has gone by after 'Purple Raw Vol. 2' was dropped on Systematic and since all good things come in threes, it was only a matter of time until he would come up with his third instalment. The wait is finally over and Fabrice returns with a strong 'Pure Raw 3' which has no other intention than making you dance through the night. This four-tracker starts with a driving edit of 'Gravitational Voyage' by Joris Voorn and proceeds it´s journey with three tunes full of raw percussions, bumbing sounds and unpredictable arpeggio synthlines. This EP is just 'Pure Raw'!

Handpicked by Carl Craig for his first release on the label, veteran producer Fabrice Lig delivers an inspiring album of hi-tek funk, soul, house and breakbeat with his 'Galactic Soul Odyssey' album on Planet E. A high school teacher by day, father of three and deeply passionate music devotee, there's an undeniable sense that Fabrice Lig was cut from a different cloth than most. The Belgian artist, also releasing music under the Soul Designer moniker is responsible for the classic 'Walking On A Little Cloud' album on Laurent Garnier F Communications, as well as a slew of pivotal Detroit-influenced cuts on labels such as KMS and 7th City Records that captured the essence of the iconic hotspot's spirit while retaining Lig's trademark free-flowing funk. For his debut full length on Planet E, the dexterous producer has crafted an album of contrasts that gleefully scribbles outside the lines for an otherworldly 12-track trip of galactic proportions that mines inspiration from everyone from Todd Terje to Marvin Gaye and Quincy Jones, while retaining an undeniable thread to the Motor City. Launching with the steely tension-filled 'Born To Be Wise' that sounds somewhat akin to the opening musical score of a Bond film, if said flick was set on Mars, the tempo is soon set to disco via the ultra smooth vocal injection from Hard Ton on 'Celestial Love Rising'. There's a heavy hint of a future house classic when Lig teams up with lauded vocalist and former Octave One collaborator Ann Saunderson for 'No Judgment' that's already been generating serious heat since being released as a single recently. The masterful 'Oostende Blues' is the Belgian's own masterful tribute to his hero Gaye spanning energetic tech funk that gradually tempers to reveal more tender melodic tones. In a highlight heavy album, the work is fittingly rounded out by the Terje-inspired 'Superstring Theory' that mixes up disco, funk and '90s rave vibes all executed with astounding compositional skill - no mean feat from an artist who's never had a music lesson in his life.

Belgian techno icon Fabrice Lig makes his Subject Detroit debut here with a real driving yet emotional peak time techno banger complete with remixes from Aaron-Carl and DJ Bone himself. A. Hmong Dignity Original Club Mix Already a longstanding component in Bone's dancefloor armoury, Fabrice Lig's Hmong Dignity finally lands on SD. The scoring is opened with a tight groove - familiar percussion paving the way to a popping, head-bobbing kick, creating a rhythm that bridges the gap between classic and contemporary. Fabrice wastes no time in getting to the punch line however and swiftly dispatches the track's payload of unforgiving weaponised melody. Raw ingredients laid out, the plot is thickened with jazzy chords that finally falls away to an extravaganza of a break, complete with a funky-as-you-like riff and bassline to boot. An epic example of Detroit's unbridled influence on European techno. B1. Hmong Dignity Aaron-Carl Remix The late, great Aaron Carl provides a meaty rework to Fabrice's original. With a more "housey" aesthetic, AC switches to bigger, flatter kicks and chops up the immense central melody of the original in to more of a part than a centrepiece. Layered, stomach churning bass is deployed on the front line as the synths swirl and mingle around the main groove. Sitting comfortably on the house/techno border, AC's version is chunky, funky, raw and real. B2. Hmong Dignity DJ Bone Remix SD head honcho DJ Bone delivers an elite remix to round off Fabrice's debut Subject Detroit release. The groove that flies off the start line gradually thickens and expands, with Bone slicing up and morphing Fabrice's melody into a completely different beast as it tweaks and spasms in and around a pacey and complex groove. The beat gives way to a cavalcade of funky, arpeggiated synth stabs that remain a constant for the rest of the track, and even they continue to evolve as brooding bass and lush reverberating strings add a genuine next level to the track. As deep as it is tough, straight up yet funky, Bone's remix plucks certain elements of Fabrice's original, redrafts and revises and turns it into a dancefloor bomb in its own right.

Detroit native Reggie Dokes has been a mainstay of We Play House Recordings since the very early years. The reason for that is simple: his music keeps on moving the mind and soul of WPH boss Red D.
For his latest outing Reggie digs deep into his African heritage, inspired by the godfather or Afro Beat Fela Kuti. Original rhythms, killer stabs and a proud display of his blackness make this E.P. into something that takes house music to a whole other level. Just immerse yourself into this one, no questions asked. More

Red D’s debut album ‘Fantasize & Realize’ has been doing the rounds for a while now, to much acclaim by many of his fans and peers alike. Some of these peers have been close to Red D for decades and it seemed only fitting to let them have a go at remixing some of the album tracks.
An all star cast of Charles Webster, Kai Alcé, Far Out Radio Systems and San Soda stepped in, chose their favourite track on the album and set to work. The result is ‘Re-Fantasized & Realized’, a killer deep remix package for the ages. We can assure you that Red D himself was mightily pleased with these and we’re sure you will be too. More

Things tend to move in circles until they are complete. Such is the case with WPH TEN-8. When FCL released their ‘Cherry Pie E.P.’ on Kai Alcé’s NDATL label it was already decided that Kai Alcé would find a home on WPH as well. And with his absolutely stunning string of remixes of recent years in mind it made sense to ask Kai to take up remix duties for a new FCL release.
.The result is a release that oozes soul all over. The original track is FCL’s ‘let’s make a track and have great singers aka Lady Linn and Gustaph singing about house music’-moment and Kai’s remix is…well…simply another amazing slice of soul from the man that can do no wrong. It’s house music…as you should know it. More

Apart from trying to walk like an Eqyptian back in the 80’s WPH boss Red D never knew much about Egypt, let alone knew that one day he would nodding his head to dusty deep house music made by an Egyptian. Enter Adham Zahran, DJ and producer of some of the deepest grooves ever to arrive at WPH HQ.
On his debut E.P. for WPH Adham Zahran presents two pieces of divine house music that ooze soul and musicianship. ‘The Midnight Tower’ will go straight to your hips with it infectious piano hook whereas ‘Disco Infinite’ is a subtle discofied bass affair that would sit well next to classic Theo Parrish or Moodymann stuff. High praise, but just listen and you’ll know it’s well-deserved! More

It?s been some 7 years since Reggie Dokes was last seen & heard on a WPH release, so safe to say this one is long overdue. Our Detroit hero took a bit of a hiatus from music production in recent years, but he is back and has been cooking up some serious heat.

This one has been in the making for a loooong time and we do believe you will agree it was worth the wait. TJ Kong has been releasing some serious vocal house masterpieces over the past year on Compost and other labels of fame, so it was only a matter of time before they ended up on WPH. When it comes to vocals few do it better than Gustaph, the Belgian lead vocalist of Hercules & Love Affair and a close friend of the WPH family. Inside story: Gustaph provided non-credited (but paid) backing vocals for FCL’s ‘It’s You’ stormer. With TJ Kong Gustaph takes up the role of both lyrics writer and vocalist and does so to devastating effect in absolute perfect unison with the track provided by TJ Kong & Modular K. It’s classic but very very fresh. On the flipside TJ Kong & Modular K team up with French wonderboy Art of Tones aka Llorca for a trip into house music stabs & strings bliss. If the dream is always the same, we do hope this is the one you are re-dreaming. WPH TEN-3, niceness to the max!

It’s…album time on WPH! Metrobox has cooked us up a collection of original, mindblowing, swinging and most of all beautiful tracks ranging from total dancefloor devastation to introspective journeys. Exactly what an album should be like if you ask us. Which you can if you e-mail to [email protected]
With our regular 12” series both coming to end some people thought that WPH would end as well. You should’ve known better, because there is too much gorgeous music coming from our small WPH family to just let other labels shine with it. And so we have decided to throw caution into the wind and embark on a new story. A story in which our artists get to tell their story by means of a full album. At the heart of Metrobox’ sound is a love for Moog, 909 and SH 101 sounds, combined with a knack for seductive melodies and a healthy dose of vocal action. Two collaborations with WPH head honcho Red D and Belgian MC champ TLP add some extra oldskool flavor to the proceedings. And yes, we are well aware of the fact that double or triple albums are heavy on your budget and that you all prefer to shell out 15 euro for a one-sided limited Detroit release instead of a 12” with three tracks you like…so this album will come in three separately available 12”s, giving you complete buyer freedom.
WPH TEN-2 follows…WPH TEN-1! Sometimes life can be really simple… So now, the music. Vintage Dynamodyse (who is also SRF Inc of course, with some help from his friends) is what you are getting here. But seeing as our deep man from Cologne isn’t exactly the most famous producer on the block, we’ll just remind you by saying that the music is deep house that has absolutely nothing to do with what all techsters and hipsters have been calling deep house. Just listen and play the f*ck out of these two!
