Kick starting the new year, Cinematic’s latest release comes from label debutant Reggie Dokes in the form of “Child of The Sun EP”. An inspired artist hailing from Detroit, Reggie spoils us with three funk fuelled cuts via the motor city! An inspired artist through his association with Derrick May and Transmat, Reggie is one of the unsung heroes from Detroit who’s sole purpose has always been to concentrate on the music. His Psychotasia record label has been an outlet for releasing his signature sound of soul inspired deep house and techno that has gained him plaudits all over Europe. Recent guest appearances have seen Reggie release on esteemed labels such as Royal Oak, Kuumba and We Play House. The first track “Child of the sun” is a slow Techno burner fuelled with funk and electronic rhythms that builds, envoking vibrancy and colour before the bassline sets the tone in pummelling throughout the track. The second track aptly titled “Funk Below” further signifies Reggies versatility this time with a deeper mindset giving us the feeling of intimate night spots that are smoke filled with llow ceilings. Think browns and deep reds when listening to this and funk below that radar. Make Believe compliments the release thats a little leftfield but not to be ignored. Synth laden and downtempo, the hi hats whip away providing energy climaxing with clever arrangement of strings before the whole thing gets stripped down for a more heads down moment.

Things tend to move in circles until they are complete. Such is the case with WPH TEN-8. When FCL released their ‘Cherry Pie E.P.’ on Kai Alcé’s NDATL label it was already decided that Kai Alcé would find a home on WPH as well. And with his absolutely stunning string of remixes of recent years in mind it made sense to ask Kai to take up remix duties for a new FCL release.
.The result is a release that oozes soul all over. The original track is FCL’s ‘let’s make a track and have great singers aka Lady Linn and Gustaph singing about house music’-moment and Kai’s remix is…well…simply another amazing slice of soul from the man that can do no wrong. It’s house music…as you should know it.

On his debut E.P. for WPH Adham Zahran presents two pieces of divine house music that ooze soul and musicianship. ‘The Midnight Tower’ will go straight to your hips with it infectious piano hook whereas ‘Disco Infinite’ is a subtle discofied bass affair that would sit well next to classic Theo Parrish or Moodymann stuff. High praise, but just listen and you’ll know it’s well-deserved!

This one has been in the making for a loooong time and we do believe you will agree it was worth the wait. TJ Kong has been releasing some serious vocal house masterpieces over the past year on Compost and other labels of fame, so it was only a matter of time before they ended up on WPH. When it comes to vocals few do it better than Gustaph, the Belgian lead vocalist of Hercules & Love Affair and a close friend of the WPH family. Inside story: Gustaph provided non-credited (but paid) backing vocals for FCL’s ‘It’s You’ stormer. With TJ Kong Gustaph takes up the role of both lyrics writer and vocalist and does so to devastating effect in absolute perfect unison with the track provided by TJ Kong & Modular K. It’s classic but very very fresh. On the flipside TJ Kong & Modular K team up with French wonderboy Art of Tones aka Llorca for a trip into house music stabs & strings bliss.
