South London producer/musician, Ben Hauke, is set to release his highly anticipated debut album,”Club Cute”, under forward-thinking London-based label Touching Bass, run by Errol and Alex Rita.

The dynamic genre-blending artist known for his electrifying music production, has been forging a path of his own over the last decade, and now it's time for him to unleash his debut full length project, “Club Cute”. As we stumble into 2023, Oath sub-label Last Year At Marienbad stands tall with this wondrous new mini-album from the multi-faceted and talented Ben Hauke, with a collection of tracks that make the head turn and the soul yearn.

Ever since his debut back in 2013, Hauke has been chasing a sound that is fed into from multiple angles and reference points, so much so that it feels like he has been making music over the course of many lifetimes. Hauke operates within that contemporary House realm where the genre is broken down and reconstructed within differing images, but there is a continuity that threads it all together, a deep mystifying presence that knits skylight emotions with superb drumming patterns. His craft as such feels elastic and boundless, leaving the listener finding all they could ever wish for and more with every release, the flow from one record to the next only bounding people more to his effortless emotive breeze. There’s a haziness to his work that persists within the sampled feel of many elements within his tunes, which provide an earthiness to proceedings and provide vitality in all its forms. So much has been covered within his soundscape yet there is always room for growth, such as Hauke’s vision and his control over how his sound will develop and morph. He has released on a wide variety of labels, including Far Out, Church, Hear Other Sounds, Melodica, Co-Operation Recordings, and YAM. The founding of WOOP records would go on to see Hauke further experiment with his style, with UK Garage, Jungle, and Breakbeat all making an appearance on this wonderful series of wax releases which only further Hauke as a go-to producer for keeping you on your toes and for taking you deep within the dance.

It only makes sense for Hauke to release his latest masterclass via the one and only Last Year In Marienbad, which has blessed us with two excellent records from Retromigration and Jesse Bru thus far, with ‘Save The Date’ acting as yet another impressive step forward for both the imprint and Hauke. The record is, as always, seeped in dynamic boundary defying moods and breezy, steppin grooves, moving easily from club floors through to sun kissed walks and deep hued evenings. There’s the broken beat masterclasses in the form of ‘Make Up Break Up Bench’ and ‘Let’s Move On Bro’, both of which contain swings that could move mountains and a sombre yet uplifting top layer of keys and flutes which really tie into that sampled feel we know and adore Hauke for. Then there’s the upbeat house numbers, and they really are something – from the fast talking ‘Watch Me Now’, with its gorgeous filtered melodic lines and evocative vocal elements, through to the 90s leaning ‘Forever Me’ with its electronic Sax taking centre stage as we welcome the morning light, through to the title track and its driving wobbles and emphatic piano lines, there is much to be said about the spaces that can be inhabited within and around these tracks. There’s even time for a break halfway through, with the sub-1 minute ‘First Snow’ showcasing Hauke’s love of Hip Hop , and within a sea of energized grooves its joyous to be provided with a differing side to the story, recharge if you will.

Ben Hauke has really harnessed a particular something during his career to date, and it is no surprise that he continues to push out top-quality recordings that feel very much in his own image, and for us ‘Save The Date’ feels like his most complete and accomplished release to date, and that is saying something when compared to the quality he has provided us with before. Heart-inducing, pulse-setting, all bound within a easygoing atmosphere that washes away the fears and sets the mind on a brighter path – a path we are so very willing to traverse. Following releases on Nervous Records and Co-Operation Recordings, and with remix credits on Wah Wah 45s and Far Out Recordings, Ben Hauke returns to home soil for his latest record. Recorded in between nightshifts over the Christmas period, ‘Nightwork EP’ represents a feeling of wanting more from life. Enlisting YAM alumnus Joe Armon-Jones and fellow night-grafter Unkle Lemz, the EP moves from downtempo to drum tool over four tracks cementing Hauke’s reputation as one of South East London’s hardest working producers.

Julio Victoria is a name that needs no introduction in Colombia's electronic music scene. One of the most influential DJs to emerge from South America over the last decade, Julionow presents Astrolabe, his new EP and first vinyl release. It is also his debut for South East London based label, Church.
The vinyl, composed of three portentous tracks, found its inspiration in an elaborate old fashioned instrument, historically used by astronomers and navigators to identify new stars and planets. Perhaps that's the reason why "Astrolabe" immerses the listener into a celestial state of relaxation and contemplation. A dance ritual that never ends. "Evasión" introduces a more percussive lead groove that carries hypnotic top lines of fuzzy synth patterns that ease across the duration of the track. "Tres" closes the collection with groove inducing hats and a pulsing bass line that partners perfectly with more reverb-soaked swells of filtered chords and showers of twinkling & expanding melodies.
Astrolabe will have a solid run of launch events across Colombia, as well as in Asia and Europe, which will include Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Zurich and Dublin. More

Mancunian Hidden Spheres has showcased himself as one of the most innovative producers out there, releasing across the likes of Lobster Theremin, Rhythm Section International and his own imprint Fruit Merchant, all of which have been the perfect outlets for his inspiring blend of house and jazz. Church now features as the latest addition, who continue their stellar discography with 'Words Can't Explain', a collaborative EP which sees Hidden Spheres alongside singer-songwriter and guitarist, Oscar Jerome.
The collection begins with the original mix, lowering you into slick jazz guitar licks and echoing vocals, before Hidden Spheres provides a tight groove to lock around the melodies in fine form. The hybrid creation of jazz meets house binds perfectly as warm keys hang effortlessly in the air and popping guitar lines carry you onwards, supporting the sublime vocal from Oscar.
The dub version opens up room for the guitar licks and synth top lines to take centre stage, a real opportunity to marvel at the arrangement here.
On the flip is Yu Su's rework who ups the tempo and dims the lights for a punchier rework.. The half way point welcomes a percussive led break before the hats return and pick up the groove once again, closing the 'Words Can't Explain' EP in style. More

The Detached Observation EP kicks off with Paradise Crane - a deep and dreamy production carried by soaring synths that echo throughout. Valentino Mora builds upon the soundscape left by Rai, remixing with fine affect as he introduces a simplistic yet highly effective tech groove to complement her work well.
The B side sees Rai offer up a balearic feel with rich horn lines dancing around a haze of muffled bass line and soft kicks. The EP comes to close with more delightful reverb soaked chords which are carried by liquid smooth hats from start to finish coming together in fine form for the title track. More

Following the debut 12? from young blood Happa, fledging London label Church break into the year with their second official release from up and comer Rumah. Following his debut collaborative 12? on Nineteen89, the double A-side release exhibits a maturing of the producers sound and cements his allegiance to affront, dance floor ready Techno. Both tracks centre around infectious spoken word samples, mercilessly spliced for the benefit of Hughes' exceptionally powerful use of rhythm. 'Stutter' combines bouncy kicks with glitchy percussion, whilst 'Murmur' melds heavyweight grooves with mesmerising, dark acid bass lines and cutting snares. Church founders Apes & Seb Wildblood's spin on 'Stutter' slows down the tempo into Deep House/Techno territory, with simmering reverbed stabs and atmospheric vocals, this re-imagined cut is tailor made to be used as a solid club tool. James Fox on the other hand provides a slinky interpretation of 'Murmur', Stretching out the samples taken from Rumah's originals and manipulating the evocative, soulful vocals he is best known for. The release marks an integral step into the early foundations of the promising label, Rumah is showing himself as a definite one to watch.
