The primer of techno was barely dry or England already had its own variant of the genre: UK techno. Original Man by British producer Dave Angel is perhaps the perfect example of what that variant sounded like, back then. If only you knew where to find it. The single was released in 1993 on a record label that has long since ceased to exist. Fortunately, Utrecht-based record label SoHaSo made this transverse techno-soul classic available again, in a punchy remaster. With its juxtaposed rhythm programming and orchestral arrangements, Original Man still lives up to its title, even if it is 30 years later. On the flip you'll find Quarter Pounder. With its nervous hi-hats and high paced rhythms, this seems like the perfect soundtrack for a highway chase between two roadhouses. As a bonus, SoHaSo has supplemented the vinyl version of this EP with a rare Dave Angel track which also was released back in 1993 on French dance label FNAC. It's called 4th Symphony and ticks all the right techno boxes: strings, hihats and a melancholic melody. Dave Angel was a regular on Brixton-based pirate radio station Phase One in the late ‘80s and an integral part of the UK Techno scene ever since, remixing the likes of Underworld, Orbital, and Model 500, and founding Rotation Records in the ‘90s. Turning his sights to Radio Slave’s essential Rekids for his latest release, the iconic DJ/producer prepares a heavy duty two-tracker for the label, dropping in early 2023. For their latest offering, the L.A coterie have enlisted the talents of the legendary German duo Extrawelt and have backed them up with remixes from championed master of machines Ulrich Schnauss as well as Joey Beltram and Giegling affiliate Vril. Extrawelt's 'Breaking Bricks' remixes addition to Halocyan's Originary Technicity series will be released across two separate volumes with Ulrich Schnauss' interpretation and the two original mixes on the first and Joey Beltram and Vril's revisions featuring on the second. Having released several EPs through Cocoon as well as 12"s on James Holden's Border Community, Kompass Musik and Traum Schallplatten, Extrawelt have evinced infallible consistency across their back catalogue and have long been regarded an eminent and influential force in the world of experimental Techno. Joey Beltram kicks off Volume 2 with a remix of 'Breaking Bricks'. Having landmark successes at Drumcode, Harthouse, Bush and MB Electronics, Beltram continues to be a leading innovator of underground Dance Music in the US and abroad. Bustling with neatly crafted percussion, ducking synths and a spearing, propulsive bass pattern - his remix moves with brisk, mechanical purpose and adds a signature degree of energy to the original. At just 24, Hackman has already amassed a lauded back catalogue that's touched 20:20 Vision, Futureboogie, Greco-Roman and Rampa offshoot PTN. As an artist he's consistently diversified his sound and - akin to the ethos of Halocyan - has kept one foot firmly in dance music's rich history as well as looking forwards with each release.
