a highly regarded producer and musician who used to be in the midst of the NY metro breeding reactor that spectatuclarely revived and modernized disco and italo disco since the turn of the century and added some hotliped live brass to their platters and whose sought after releases under his own appear appear much to rarely dons his house cloak and dagger for 3 sneaky new chapters on story. not wasting any time on unnecessary nicety the a-side track will send up a whole colony of ants right up your pants riding on a steamrolling percussive disco groove garnished with cut up vocals and fx trickery. B2 is another chicago style wedding of disco and house with a jubilant, string backed female vocal snippet tweaked over a heavy groove while the first track on the flip is a subterrenean, groaning dub house affair that reminds of a slowed down John Ciaffone banger. no matter which chapter you jump to here it puts you right into the action.

after 2 years where the old Stories were still being carried around and re-told over and over by the world's discjockey the next mysterious deephouse raconteur finally adds a new tome to the old legend in his own distinctive, unmistakable style: while the narrative is effectively and assuredly driven on by a classical yet forceful 4/4 rhyme structure the vocabulary is more playful, experimental and abstract with melodic fragments evoking pictures of vast, futuristic landscapes and a mood of deep contemplaton and enlightened serenity. another satisfying pageturner

Another anonymous high priest of the Secret New House World Order, an organisation rumored to clandestinely control and reign supreme dancefloors worldwide, steps up on their Story ( SecreT Order Rocks You ) label with 3 captivating basic, raw yet deep tracks in the best Chicago tradition - a style that over the years proofed itself rather useful for total mind and body dominance. "Feel about" perfectly exposes the simple, always effective ingredients for arresting punters on the floor: a basic jacking beat somewhere around the magical 120bpm range, a almost sedative walking bassline, swinging organ chords and vocal snippets that command your butt to shake, a subtle synth wave that will seep into your mind and clear it of all wordly thoughts and then after a while wild swirling hi-hats that will send you in uncontrolable convulsions. "Gute Aussichten" on the flip takes over from there with a harder punching groove and a slightly eerie atmosphere before a warm shower of synth chords hits the euphoria switch in your subconscious while the skippy stuttering groove of "return" will have dancers will-lessly twitching like electric eels. resistance is futile, just give yourself up to the groove!

another main player of the current elite of deephouse producers makes an anonymous but definitely not impersonal appearance on the ever great Story imprint. right from the beginning of "Fascinated" we get slowely woven into a maze by the spellbinding introduction of a sultry soulstress and when the eeriy string, gentle harp sweeps and a swinging yet almost coy beat fall in it only adds to the feeling of hazy, latenight intimacy. "Taj Mahal" has a more robust, earthy beat with Tabla and deep twangy sitar sounds panning around, making you see all these groovy colors and feel like you are lifted above ground and even "you better find a job" - despite it's title - doesn't even try to pull you back to earth and into dull reality; it's warm pulsating bass, psychedelic feedback and flanger sounds much rather urge you to flip that record over again and stay in the groove.

Story continues its immaculate run of bottom-heavy deephouse with 4 special treats from this british underground figure that make an earthquake like introduction to the scene with 3 anonymous 12"es only that are already sought after and destined to become collectors items. An acid house veteran that followed the whole UK rave progression to harder techno, he harks back to his early influences with his productions by building his dense, jacking slo-mo house grooves around hip-hop and soul samples. Cuts like "The rub" or "DH13" and take their time to slowly sneak-up on you casting a bigger and bigger shadow until you are totally immersed in the smoky, dub-filled atmosphere that has a similar feel to the psychedelic soul of Motown's Norman Whitfild or the RZAs mystic hip-hop soundscapes. "Whobadu" trades for 4/4 pattern for a looser, handclapping 80's funk groove that should cross-over into the box of every more discerned Hip-Hop DJ, while "Olufeme" is a stripped down, Fela style Afro groover with mighty dubbed-out horn loops. four tracks that will keep all you dancers, booty shakers and headnodders happy for a long time!

story02 brings you more tales from the deepside that have no author attached to them and rather sound like deephouse traditionals secretly and orally passed down from one wise deephouse initiate to the next. free from superficial glitzy effects, showy noodling or even the slightest nod to the latest fad in clubland every single one of these 3 tracks is like a condensed version of what deephouse is about and revokes mystic memories of nights in dark, bassridden basements. "deepcut59" is a manifest not for minimalism but simplicity where only the slow swelling of a chord can make you burst with joy and just the addition of a hi-hat will stir you into action with new vigor. "on the way back" over on the b-side features a relentlessly pushing, driving rhythm with abstract, piercing piano chords scattered all over while the title of the closing "rhodes on drums" says it all: sweet wailing, rhodes musings on "love and happiness" for those blue hours in the morning. This story is an epic!

Tracklist: A: Closing In B1: Gee Baby (Ain't I Good To You) B2: Read That Lips (2013 Edit)
Stefan Goldmann's very first release from 2001, thoroughly remastered. Long out of print, this has been extremely sought after classic vinyl. In their day, these tracks (together with Missing Days / That Ghost) created the prototype of today's stripped down house sound. Especially "Gee Baby" has recently been rediscovered and became a signature tune of Ibiza's DC10 / Circo Loco with DJs like Raresh and Matthias Tanzmann - which made it swap back to its native Berlin and its legendary eternal afterhours. The A side's "Closing In" with its broken funk predated a lot of convergence happening now between house and bass music. And last but not least, Stefan Goldmann provides a brand new, ultra-stripped down EDIT of the mesmerizing "Read That Lips." Essential all the way.
Remastered by D+M's Rashad from the original DAT source and cut to premium vinyl, they are finally available again in unprecedented quality.

Tucked away in the great depths of the Warp catalogue is this elegant, liquid heartache of a record. An album credited to the late James Stinson, one half of cult-Detroit techno unit (alongside Gerald Donald) Drexciya, Lifestyles... stands as one of the remarkable records of the genre. Stinson died a year after release, lending this already beautiful work endless resonance.
Where the dystopian aqua-tronics of previous Drexciya were often jet-black, cold, brittle and abrasive this is a yearning soul music, played out down rain soaked streets, the buzzing lights of industry flickering in the darkness, the warm blue of a new day ready to break. This is a record where techno reached its raw, most emotive peak... Sustained pads paint minor-key melodies while electroid-vocals are buried deep in the hydrothermal mass of squelching bass-clusters and funky-filtered bleeps. At its skittering percussion core, a stripped back 808 tapestry, sequenced into myriad jazz-inflected shapes, a pulsing kick drum the snapping heartbeat, ticking hi-hats bursting from every angle.
All this tingles with the ghosts of records past, of Kraftwerkian humanoids, of first-wave Detroit, of refracted Hancock and Ayres, but as Stinson intones on the fifth track, ‘let me be what I wanna be’, Lifestyles is a creation all of its own special making, a sound that would inspire the latter day deep-house machinations of Omar S, Jus-Ed, Moodymann and influence –however indirectly- a wealth of current UK/US bass operators including Actress and Kyle Hall. More importantly it remains a beguiling epitaph to Stinson’s sadly distinguished life. More

Joe Davies - Hi Life (Frankfurt Mix)
Artwork and Typography by Stefan Marx
Joe Davies aka DJ Assam makes a welcome return to Smallville following his ‘Shields In Full Sunlight’ LP with the ‘Pardon My Late Response’ EP.
The past decade has seen DJ Assam releasing material for the likes of (his own imprint) Lehult, that he runs with a few friends, KANN Records, Super Tuff and Smallville Records sub-label Down by the Lake, as well as Djing regularly at hotspots across Europe and beyond.
Last year he made his debut on Smallville appearing under his own name- Joe Davies with a long player project. Here he returns with more of his distinctive deep and hypnotic style on a new EP for Smallville.
Up first on the package is ‘Errol Dub’, a six minute journey traversing through bouncy bass tones, airy chords, crisp shuffled percussion and modulating synth lines before ‘Unknown’ dives deeper via a reduced rhythm section, acid synth bleeps, soft bell tones and subtly naunced atmospherics. Opening the flip-side ‘1234 Love’ captures a more raw aesthetic with saturated drums at its core while an amalgamation of modulating synth licks and ethereal pads ebb and flow throughout. The Frankfurt Mix of ‘Hi Life’, known from Joe's mesmerizing Smallville album, rounds out the release, journeying into dub territory courtesy of spiralling echoes and slowly unfurling chords underpinned by a bumpy off-kilter drum groove.
Tracklist:
A1 Errol Dub
A2 Unknown
B1 1234 Love
B2 Hi Life (Frankfurt Mix)
All tracks written, produced and mixed by Joe Davies, additional production on B2 by Ossia, Vocals on B2 by Ocker

2x 12” 180g black vinyl
gatefold cover
mastered by Noel Summerville
original artwork by Theo Ellsworth.
A year on since the collaborative Mystic AM project in 2022, Rod Modell returns solo to Astral Industries with AI-35. The album - entitled 'Ghost Lights' - comes as a gatefold 2x vinyl LP, showcasing the latest epoch of Modell's signature soundscapes. Spread across four parts, 'Ghost Lights' draws out a wide, cinematic sound - with long arching contours, rippling textures and cavernous sound design.
Woven with layer upon layer of hidden fragments and supernal transmissions, each chapter takes the listener successively deeper into the twilight zone. Harking to dramatic off-world topographies and interstellar spaces, the work glistens with opulent sound treatment and monumental grandeur. Dense pulsations move with oceanic force, marked by washes of celestial light and subterranean drones. Exercising another side to Rod Modell's typically atmospheric productions, this album comes with an ambitious framework and a more assertive sound. Featuring some of Modell's most epic storytelling to date, 'Ghost Lights' delivers a powerful immersive experience.

Originally released in 1995, Spanners is the second album from The Black Dog and their first for Warp Records. In 2017 it was selected by Pitchfork as one of ‘The 50 Best IDM Albums of All Time’. The reissue will be the first time the vinyl is available since its original pressing in 1995. After this release the original trio of Ed Handley, Andy Turner and Ken Downie went their separate ways - Handley and Turner formed Plaid, whilst Downie carried on with The Black Dog name, initially by himself, and latterly with the assistance of brothers Martin and Richard Dust.

SHORT INFO:
Definitive Recordings revisits 1994 house classic 'Get House' by Calisto with a new version by legend Josh Wink. The iconic house music classic 'Get House' by Calisto from 1994, is now being revitalized by the legendary house music pioneer Josh Wink. Josh Wink, renowned for his pioneering contributions to the Acid House movement, infuses his signature style into 'Get House,' breathing new life into the timeless anthem. The remix pays homage to the roots of electronic music while propelling it into the future, creating an immersive sonic experience that captivates listeners and ignites dance floors with its infectious energy. But the journey doesn't end there. Alongside Wink's groundbreaking remix, the release includes the raw and percussive original version of 'Get House,' straight from the depths of 1994. With a bassline that delves deep into the soul of the dance floor and cut-up vocals interlaced with stiff snares, this track delivers an edgy groove that remains as exhilarating as ever. Remastered for contemporary audiences, the original version retains its raw intensity while boasting enhanced clarity and depth. "I used to rock the original at parties and raves all over the world in the mid-'90s, and it was one of those special records of the time that combined house, acid house, and electro-breaks. It was perfect to segue from different styles as a DJ. One of my favorites on the mighty Definitive Recordings catalog!" says Josh Wink about the original. Adding to the excitement, the release also features the acapella version of 'Get House,' providing DJs and producers with a versatile tool for creative remixing and reimagining. 'Get House' by Calisto, including the Josh Wink remix, the original version, and the acapella, will be available on all major streaming platforms as well as on vinyl.

Argentinian producers Oscean return to Tresor with Chronium Radiance, their longest release so far, in which the duo continue the evolution of their sound, coalescing the elemental ideas explored in their first two releases and yielding sublime results.
This landmark release will no doubt be seen as the point at which Oscean crystalised a trademark sound, balancing complex percussive rhythms with pulsing and cadenced music in which a universe of often oxymoronic ideas can be found, melded together with a deft touch to create a blissful sonic whole.
There is a sense of space and airiness to side A of the record as synth parts drift across the more solid-feeling landscape of the basslines and percussion: Opening track ChronoRebel is a propulsive trance induction that brings forth cinematic images of billowing clouds. This nebulous quality is continued on Neon Harmonies where the highly syncopated drum track weaves through a haze of colourful synths that while lower tempo than the previous track somehow has an energy of a faster piece.
The flip side has a denser, darker quality to it beginning with Blaster Imploder, a deep and funky track that continues the convention-defying theme by being powerful and frenetic whilst also having a soft and exultant sheen. This is followed by Echoes of Chaos which closes out the 12” with a dynamic beat and spacious, sweeping synths that feel as though we are passing through the atmosphere heading towards some distant nebula.
Alongside the tracks on the vinyl release, three digital tracks expand on the universe Oscean have built with a truly ecstatic love theme, a retelling of Neon Harmonies that unveils a river of dub, and a low tempo, drifting yet no-less affecting piece acting as the closing titles to our voyage to this Osceanic world.
