Have you ever experienced the empty spaces of Ghost City Detroit? They inspired Sten aka Lawrence to this hypnotic 12inch- three versions of "Squares". The deep techtunes can be regarded as an hommage to early Derrick May tracks, Heath Brunner and all Detroit Techno Bunch from back to now. Functional Grooves from the Roland Machines on a melodic soundcarpet plus the mighty Detroit string section- this one is made to dance, eyes closed, the heart open. Peter M. Kersten aka Lawrence / Sten launched the dial label in 2000 together with his flat mate and dj friend Carsten Jost. In 2005 he released the record store and Label "Smallville" in Hamburg St. Pauli with 2 friends. After releases on Ghostly International, Cocoon, Mule Electronics, Kompakt and Sender a new Album - Sten "The Essence" will be published on Dial Records in May 2008.

When Dérive Records released "Ne Travaillez Jamais" in 2009, Christopher Rau succeeds what rarely happens to the universe of House Music: He creates a longtime everybody's darling, a dream around that one magic loop which would last forever on the dancefloors. Now after releases on Staub, Laid and Smallville the dream develops, the magic expands: Christopher Rau`s Debut Album Asper Clouds builds up one hour of pure beauty. No trend to be followed no invention to be intended it is the reduced gorgeousness that lets us float on sweet Asper Clouds. Nick Holder, Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Pete Rock, J Dilla- they all simply cached the right sense for magic samples, heavenly loops, warmest basslines- Christopher Rau might not connect to this heroes personally but he belongs to those magician who forms happiness out of a lowest amount of ingredients. It has been the sweetness and warmth of the city of Hamburg, it's delightful venues such as the Golden Pudel Club and Smallville Parties at Ego that made him diving into deepest music. After "Ne Travaillez Jamais" became the favorite track of all Smallville and Dial Djs and Rau played on one of those magic nights the idea of an Album was born. The plan was as simple and lovely as the music on Asper Clouds is. Here comes the sun.

Over the last two years, Ahmet Sisman has become one of the most interesting newcomers within the German Techno scene. His music is located at the junction between Turkish roots and western post-modernism, but still always succeeds in orchestrating the dark energy of the night, too. Consequently, his last EP "Hit Me Low" (Dumb Unit) could be found in the charts of Tiefschwarz and André Galluzzi, and the percussive masterpiece from '98 "Buiya" belonged to Sven Väth's most popular tracks of the Ninth Season last year. "Hey Now", Sisman's debut for Cocoon Recordings, is not hiding his passion for the Chicago Trax sound, but supplements an incredibly deep brilliance of sound by pointed percussions, modular Acid and lots of echo reverb.
The two protagonists of the flip side, however, don't need any introduction: for more than 15 years now, Johannes Heil is an essential part of the German Techno community. With classics like "Paranoid Dancer" (Kanzleramt, 1998) or "Calling" (1999), he belongs to the musical long-term memory of Techno but beyond that, he always was a reliable guarantor for musical development, too. The same is true for Heiko Schäfer aka Heiko M/S/O, who is DJ, club promoter and producer (e.g. for Pascal FEOS ("Our Music", Ongaku 1995) and Atom Heart ("Mihon #3", Pod Communications 1992)) since 1988 and thus a very important figure in the Rhein Main Techno scene. Their first co-production "You Should Know" uses the power of percussions, but at the same time, takes a bow before the best productions of a DJ Pierre with some Wild Pitch strings and is thus perfecting the modernisation of the Sound of Chicago.

DJing and producing together since 2005, Deep Space Orchestra (Chris Barker and Si Murray) have releases on a number of heavyweight labels and regular guest appearances at club nights and radio shows throughout the UK and rest of the world. Recent highlights include being asked to record a guest mix for Gilles Peterson's highly influential Worldwide show and an upcoming mix for Michael Ruetten's Soulsearching show. They also run the Use of Weapons record label, which, although only two releases old, is already gathering much praise. Deep Space Orchestra releases appear on Delusions of Grandeur, ART, Winding Road, Home Taping Is Killing Music, Use of Weapons and soon Instruments of Rapture, Drumpoet Community or Tracky Bottoms too. Yes, these guys are hot!
