Al Zanders approach to his first EP of 2018 is as precise as it is whimsical. Featuring 4 tracks showing Zanders sheer versatile when it comes to making music. Opened by piano-percussion track Martha's Revenge which is made so clearly for dance floors, followed by Television, a chance for a closed- eyes boogie be it on a dance floor in the middle of a set, or on the sofa at home. On the b-side, Likes For Cash's comedic title is met in contrast with a piercing synth top-line and stripped back drums, with just enough of a bassline to sit in-between the drums and synths. Closing the EP is Guidance, a reflective and a chance for the EP to close as well as it would close a dance floor when the lights come on at the end of the night.

Al Zanders makes his debut on Phonica’s main label after a sold-out release on sister label Karakul and also Wolf Music, Blind Jack’s Journey and his own AZ label. The double A-side kicks off with ‘There is Rhythm’, a percussive house anthem with plenty of momemtum, a tom-tom bassline and ‘rhythm’ vocal samples and that’s even before the sun-soaked pads and euphoric synth stabs come in.
On the flip, ‘Song About A Dream’ is far more of a collage - made of unconnected genres and styles, inspired by DJ Shadow - all tied together with the common theme of dreams. A-Z is a new platform for his distinctive and eclectic output After sharing a stage at Shambala festival, Al was impressed by the 7 piece Sheffield group Hot Diamond Aces, who sent the crowd into a dancing frenzy with their bombastic brass licks and Afro-beat inspired rhythms. So impressed in fact, that he approached them afterwards with the idea of doing a remix and starting a label. The reworked version of 'DSOMC' is a certified corker that has already been tearing up dancefloors. Kickstarting the landmark year for the label is the reissue of the 1999 classic Men From The Nile ft Peven Everett Watch Them Come. Standing the test of time and a testament to its dancefloor-ready grooves, Watch Them Come opens up the EP and still sounds as fresh as ever. Men From The Nile is a collaboration between Roy Davis Jr. and Jay Juniel, and for Watch Them Come they enlisted the legendary vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Peven Everett to complete the tribal cut. For the reissue, Men From The Nile are joined by some of the biggest names in dance music. Green Velvet aka Cajmere has been a mainstay in the Chicago circuit since the 90s, making a name for himself as a multifaceted artist as well as label head at Cajual Records and Relief Records.
