Come on, be honest. You also have been waiting for this. For more than seven years now, the 27-year-old Frankfurter Chris Tietjen stands, like hardly any other DJ, with his Cocoon mix compilations for the sound of this label. Apart from Sven Väth, maybe...
So, it was really time for Tietjen to carve his music-aesthetical biases finally into vinyl, because for the value-oriented and highly dedicated DJ, it's a matter of honour to release his tracks in the traditional EP format only. The three tracks on the "341 EP" are not least a deep bow before three of the most important protagonists of the Rhein Main House scene. "Active", which was composed together with Cécille producer Markus Fix celebrates a deepness that is on the one hand accented by LFO bass lines and a jazzy-sketchy lightness, but on the other hand still pushes forward at a max. With Frank Heinrich aka Reboot, Tietjen had already cooperated in 2008 for the Cocoon Ibiza pre-season mix CD "Disco Invaders". With its flute melody lines, their co-production "Just Happens" presents itself even slightly more organic, before Tietjen sits down in front of the TV with none other than Ricardo Villalobos. All jokes aside, "TV Watching" combines the suggestive effect of Villalobos' unmatched sense for broken rhythmic textures with Tietjen's very precisely thumping bass dub, and reminds in his hypnotic impact almost of Villalobos' masterpiece from 1999, "808 The Bassqueen". Then, the two release you to the beach with a wistful guitar - it's summer in the city!

Francisco Allendes, a classic violinist with a synth rock background, one of the most interesting electronic music artists from Chile, already released on Ghostly, Cadenza and several other labels. Italian born DJ, producer and Ibiza resident Paola Poletto, is not only the "first female DJ to ever perform at Pacha" - she is also a graduated sound engineer. Together Francisco and Paola are not only the nicest couple of dance music, but as a producer team they are also about to leave a deep mark on the musical landscape. Alftavatn is Thomalla.s second EP release on Berlin-based Techno-label Krakatau Records. Since 2006 the Pentatones tinker with their tessellate electroacoustic sound, in whose center the voice of singer Delhia de France is floating. To friends of club music she might be known from her collabs with techno producers such as Marlow, Douglas Greed or Robag Whrume. With the Pentatones she combines her emotional timbre in various forms with the raw basslines by Hannes Waldschütz and the analog and electronic beats and samples by Julian Hetztel a.k.a. Le Schnigg. Albrecht Ziepert creates melodic moods on the keys, whose appeal one can hardly elude. Their kaleidoscopic arrangements dance between susceptibility and experiment. Enticing pop structures melt with crackling analog electronics - a mixture laid out to make dance at times, at times to chill.
In stylistic regards their compositions are never predictable. A touch of organic jazz here, a subtle hip-hop allusion there, accompanied by a moving club rhythm structure and Delhias captivating voice, which sings, then talks, and whispers in the next moment.
This is being reflected in their life shows, acknowledged with much applause on festivals like "Sonne, Mond und Sterne", the "Fusion Festival" or "Ars Electronica". When they sample themselves during their concerts, modify their sound in real time and vividly interpret their songs, Delhia dances audaciously in extravagant, self-designed costumes in haughty reserve and effuses eccentric pop magic.
Twisted-Pop which gets straight under your skin, without ever grooving streamlined. You can dance to it, lose yourself in it or step into new worlds. There is only one thing difficult to deal with after you enjoyed "The Devil's Hand" and that's to release yourself from its overwhelming emotional impact.

"Where The River Turns Black" is the first international Album by Copenhagen Resident and Musician Katrine Ottosen aka Call me Kat. Call Me Kat are adorably intense and mesmerizing songs, an enchanting melancholic, almost translucent drift into this sonic world best described as alternative Pop, music that gives spoken word of the ever expanding danish music scene of now. Songs that adapt a fine line between organic Instrumentation and that very specific sound of her voice, which although completely it´s own tends to remind at times on other playful ladies in music like Bjørk, Feist oder Lykke Li. Earlier Works with reknown producers Valgeir Sigurdsson (Bjørk, Mum, Sigur Rós etc.) or Joe Magistro (Prophet Omega) on the current Album have certainly had their share on this. It was in the snowy, icy winter of 2010 when Katrine Ottosen, the creative force behind the artist name, went to the Catskill Mountains north of New York City. Here just outside the town of Woodstock she teamed up with notable local-based musicians Joe Magistro (Prophet Omega) and Sara Lee (Gang Of Four, B52's). They filled a car with old keyboards and amps and drove off to Applehead Studios. A beautiful wooden barn-turned-studio surrounded by grand nature and packed with precious recording gear, making it the perfect setting for capturing the songs for the anticipated, next album. Ein Setting perfect to record a "real" Album, live , intuitive, organic, direct, "Oldfashioned" in the best sense of the word. "I felt when embarking on recording this album that in this absorbing, crazy digital age, sometimes we need to taking the music back where it lives in the room first instead of constructing inside a plastic box" , Kat says.
And you can hear that this is what gives "Wtrtb" a total own musical Identity, one is touched by this voice and absorbed by those melodies that get you right away. From the almost translucend opener "Somewhere", over the hauting chords of the titlesong, let alone the the intense grabbing "Glass Walls". "The Haze" airy and full of light changes into the pacey groovy retro chords with "Heat Full of Soul", the dramatic deep yet wonderful melancholic never pathetic "Broken House" / "Going Home" and is rounded up by the norsk organic feel of "Dead of Winter" or "Black Ink. There´scertainly no easy way out of "When The River Turns Black" ….

Short version: Swedish new school electronic disco music. One side with vocals by Kicki Halmos and a melancholic swing, the other one is slightly Man Parrish-ish and features Viking muscle beats. Both tweaked, edited and mixed by a certain Terje Olsen from another Viking country.
Long version: During a long and cold night in Stockholm some moons ago, a mysterious 7" was given to Running Back's chief A&R. He liked it so much that he wanted to convince the world of its greatness, got more copies, played them back to back, gave it out to DJs and producers and there a certain Terje Olsen decided that he could prolong the all too short 7" versions into a 12". And here we are. Original versions released on DRIFTER STHLM by Samo Forsberg. Do some popping, locking & down-dogging!

The co-owners of Hamburg's most gentle record store and label Smallville - Just von Ahlefeld and Julius Steinhoff aka Smallpeople (please see Discogs for ramifactions and further reference) - wouldn't be the romanticists they are, if it would be that simple. The debut album of these two young lads with baseball hats not only honours and delves into a sound that already peaked some fifteen years ago, it also hones and elevates it, without ever falling into the Reynoldsmania trap (please see Retromania for further reference) or being old gold retold. And this is all oh-so-clear from the very start: the fine flutes of "When It's There" go straight to your heart and they do so without any self-mockery or hipster smiles as much as the gasping 303-sounds, chirping birds and healing DX-like bass sounds a few tracks later do. "Salty Days" - an allusion not to grim times, but to a certain member's adoration for the crystalline mineral - is blessed with a coherence that isn't samey, with tradition that isn't leaden and a feeling that is pure. A tough goal admittedly, but the duo succeeds bravely and most of all classily. Like a distillate of US-American innovations and the European backfire on it, the Smallpeople tell their personal love story and jump to their own conclusions. Aptly titled, "Move With Your Vision" and "Black Ice" both concentrate form and content of this album: house music that knows its roots, past and classicism, but is made with the minds and means of today. In the nineties there was the saying that it's impossible to create an album consisting of house music and house music only (those dreary downbeat experiments still haunt us to this day). Now, a year after he celebrated the success of his LP Good Morning Midnight, Niko Schwind ups the heat on Stil vor Talent with the versatile We are the Future EP that showcases a specatacular sonic progression while remaining true to what Niko does best: melodic house music. On 'All I Want', Niko lures you into a deep abyss aided by a straight groove and rapid vocal stutters until a swampy bassline, subtle piano melodies and a promiscuous female voice swallow you to the point of no return. Beautifully melancholic, yet floorfriendly, this A1 is bound to leave its mark on international dance floors. The same can certainly be said of 'We are the Future', a Schwind anthem that boils over with positive engery. While the excellent percussion highlights Niko's craftsmanship, Lil' Magdalene's jazzy voice should enchant even the biggest doubter. We are very exited to present two tracks that our Danish resident artist Mathias Mesteno has send us. Mathias has been part of the Upon You family since day one. He occaisionally also released his classic and still very individual formed house tracks on Freerange and Tic Tac Toe Records. If you count his collaboration with our UY boss Marco Resmann, then here comes his fifth release on Upon You! The Boulevard Confessions EP comprehends two tracks. On A1 he is cooking in "Keke´s Kitchen" an outrageous whorled open air slammer, which cant wait to be initiated on the beaches around the world. The b side- the "Concrete Boheme" seems more calm but finds it´s use and purpose as a deep-house track in the forests of modern styles. Tony Ollivierra's issued a generous number of singles and EPs under the Ibex moniker on Rushhour, Planet E, Yore, and his own Ibex Music, and now follows up his 2010 Yore release, Meltdown, with Absolution, though this time under his birth name. No matter: Ollivierra's music sounds great, whether issued under his real name or an alias, and Absolution is no exception. The infectious title cut gets things moving with a bass-powered blend of claps and funky rhythms before chunky house chords and silken synth figures add to the track's multi-layered splendour. A jazzier dimension rises to the surface of "Quick Release" when the tune's churning hi-hats are joined by royally swinging electric piano playing and luscious synth pads. "Phase Down" opts for a purer deep house sound in its focus on kick drums, claps, and futuristic synths, though the track proves that Ollivierra's naturally funky side can't help but emerge, here as it does elsewhere. Syncopated rhythms and electric pianos emerge one final time during the wide-screen "Find My Way" in such a way that a balance is struck between synth-heavy techno and jazz fusion.
Absolution is an unfussy clubcentric release that finds Ollivierra getting down to business with four body-moving cuts that liberally draw on house, jazz, and even Latin traditions.
