Safeword is an exciting new act comprising of 2 dedicated US-based producers, Clint Stewart and Marc Smith. Their low slung, warm and sexy sound already gave way to one EP on Paso music and now we find them really hitting their stride with their debut for Dessous.
Lead track 'You Can You Will' introduces us to Safeword's world, a sleazy, percussive and intricate gel of textures, flavours and audio fetishes. Punchy, bright production characterises this modern house jam. The eventual arrival of a deep and spritual melody is surprising and instantly turns the snaking drum tool of the introductory minutes into an anthemic, autumnal beauty.
Leading Dessous and Poker Flat man Phonique turns his hand to the title track with a cheeky, energetic remix. Aimed at the floor we find a more uptempo groove at the heart of his mesmerising tech-house re-work.
The soft bell tones floating throughout 'Tangent' are perfectly melancholic, while tough driving beats urge us forward, making the perfect partnership bewteen cinematic sound design and bass-heavy floor dynamics.
Tracklisting:
A1. You Can You Will
B1. You Can You Will (Phonique Remix)
B2. Tangent

After the great success of our first split EP series, Feral Cuts, Bad Animal invited a few of our friends to join our extended family and rework one of each original artists tracks. We give you the >House Side< keeping it deep and proper with stunning reworks by Joel Alter and label-owner Alland Byallo. On the flip, the >Techno Side< Markus Suckut strips down >There You Go< and whips back a hypnotic techno bomb. TANSTAAFL label co-owner John Osborn beautifully redefines the groove of Aartekts amazing >Rolling Energy< with the help of production partner Eric Goldstein and mix-down blessing from the mighty Paul Rose (Scuba).

One thing we love at Bad Animal is timeless music. This is exactly that. After an amazing streak of releases including a massive gem on Rue De Plaisance, enigmatic Parisian producer Professor Inc comes back strong with hypnotic, techno-laced house jams for the Bad Animal. >How We Get Dun< is a loose and raw affair, elegantly balancing gentle flickering flames of Jazz with dark, gritty drum work. Definitely one for the heads. >10,000 Feet< brings a bit more funk to the mix. Sinewy synths and atmosphere gives way to bumpin drums and proper house vibes. On the B-side we have an experimental, almost ambient jam by the Professor, coupled with a rework by our resident animals, San Franciscos Safeword. The remix takes all the pensive, emotive, almost narcotic tribal flare of the original cut and twists it up into a mad, stomping techno masterpiece. Watch the dance floor burn with this one!

Alland Byallo gained global attention producing for definitive labels like Poker Flat and LiebeDetail, hosting San Francisco s legendary KONTROL party and performing at world-famous venues like Berlin s Panoramabar and Watergate, and Detroit s annual DEMF, Byallo looks forward to showcasing his more private side through Bad Animal, expect more organic productions, vocals and raw emotion. The label s intimate feel is realized in the title track of its inaugural release, >Thirsty Eyes< an evocative song about a pained, passive aggressive young woman who is oblivious of her own condition. Built upon a sinister bass line and raw, soul-drenched vocal, this lo-fi tune builds to an eerie yet frenzied crescendo then explodes into a percussive workout perfect for peak time. Remixes from the wildly in-demand techno trio dOP. dOP drops a spacey, acid-laced, psychedelic monster. Finally >Open Windows< Byallo s other original piece, pays homage to the past with a look towards the future, this bass-heavy techno/house tune opens with an old-school build-up then chugs along accented by an ethereal vocal and energetic stabs designed to get the dance floor moving.
