Butane teams up with Andras Toth for the ‘Elements Of Truth’ EP this March, set to be released via Butane’s very own Alphahouse imprint. Andrew Rasse aka Butane, launched the Alphahouse imprint back in 2005 amidst the minimal explosion, working with the likes of Troy Pierce and Quenum in the early stages. Now, looking back on how things have progressed and seeing the imprint reach a thirty-release milestone here, the label has made quite the standing in its time, releasing cuts from luminaries such as Skudge, Ricardo Villalobos and Ion Ludwig to name a few. Here we see Andras Toth return to the label with the duo’s second collaborative EP following ‘Futures’ back in 2011. The single opens with the original mix of ‘Truth’, a raw, stripped-back record built around an evolving bass hook, jangling percussion, splashy hats and trippy vocal murmurs. The pair subtly tweak the envelope of the bass throughout the tracks entire duration to generate a blooming dynamic while the bumpy rhythm fuels the groove. Following we have the ‘Soul Of Beauty Edit’ of ‘Truth’, which as the name would suggest embraces a more heartfelt, melancholic vibe. Bringing a weighty kick, throbbing subs and stunning jazzy Rhodes and guitar lines to the forefront, shimmering with chorus to add a further warmth and elegance to the record. Last up to close the single we have ‘Elements’, taking on a more rugged and upfront feel this time the duo tip the focus towards busy percussion, a rolling tom-driven bass line and swinging snares to create a heady drum led groove. Soft chords, bass licks and resonant, psychedelic synth sweeps then gracefully meander around the groove to add an underlying and tension-building atmosphere in the depths of the background

Maricopa returns to Back To The Balearics to complete his stunning opus, Pastel Love. And he continues where he left off building deeply textured songs packed full of simple melodies that really shine. One of the best ever house records. Yes that is a big word...best house record ever. But for us this is defenitly one of the best house releases ever. Originally released on Underground Records from Chicago, we managed to get the rights for this classic. 4 tracks of vocal acid house, with such power and energy and totally rocking... Can you imagine what happened when we heard these tracks for the first time 15 years ago?? We couldn't stop jumping around. This was completly from another world... Acid was music from another planet and Mike Dunn was an Alien who came with irresistable beats and basslines. Mike Dunn and Tyree Cooper also wrote the lyrics which are still relevant for everybody who has some hassle with relationships now and then (isn't that all of us . This is all about the basics of good innovative music. Essential!

The Cryovac machine is held together by the strength and character of like-minded artists and craftsmen. These artists have the knack for expressing and imprinting their identity through and on sound. Their unique principles have held course over time in an ever changing game. Cryovac is a grass roots collective that makes music to twist the soul of music. Nothing shows the creativity of personal style like a remix. The subject of Cryovac #11 is a remix of Jason Garcia’s track “I Got People” originally on Cryovac #8. The first duo to take on the task is Prosthetic Hands (Keith Kemp & Joshua Harrison) they set the pace with a warped out mental bender drilling over smooth synth. Next is Kero who delivers a myopically Spartan cut that glitches and breaks through-out its’ evolution. Next in the rotation is Jefferson & Woodward (Jason Garcia & Derrick Thompson) banging out a funky rocker that moves and shakes with minimal gusto. Last but not least is A. Garcia turning in a drunkin’ foray into wayward synth and moving bass. Each version of “I Got People” is a look into the mind of its’ creator, it is the manifestation of their reality to yours.

Is the Hyenah from Joburg or from Berlin? It could be both, or maybe neither. We don't know. And we don't really care because the music has hit us in a huge way and we're just happy to be bringing you this serious club pressure with the debut Hyenah release here on Freerange. On lead track The Wish (Dub) we're treated to a percussion fueled, bass-heavy monster of a track which balances the dextrous, fluid grooves of the Motherland with immaculate teutonic sonics just perfectly. Slowly moving strings create a wonderful tension as the rhythm builds in intensity with rattling drums taking centre stage and jumping out of the mix like firecrackers. Next up we have King Kobra which goes straight for the jugular with a stripped-back, bare-bones groove, a beautifully simple percussion rhythm becoming all you need for the main hook. Dubbed out deep house minimalism is the name of the game here, with the hypnotic beats drawing you in and the fat Hyenah production engulfing you like a sandstorm. Flip over for a brilliant remix from our favorite French DJ and producer Manoo. This man has been responsible for some of the finest soul-tinged and afro-infused house music over the last 10 years with releases on Deeply Rooted House, Buzzin' Fly and Real Tone. His remixes for everyone from Maya Jane Coles and Louis Vega to Osunlade and Terrence Parker are testament to the skills possessed. Once again Manoo delivers in spades with this remix of The Wish, keeping the overall vibe intact but adding a rolling bassline, extra vocal hits and extending the arrangement into a most glorious ten minute workout.

Esoteric, Kraut-inspired Electronic Pop from Hamburg based duo, with an extended club remix from label co-founder Ed Davenport in electronic disco mode... Originating from the gloriously inter-tangled scene between Hamburg and Berlin, Circuit Diagram are a live act and production duo fusing hypnotic psychedelic and krautrock tendencies with live drums and electronics. The three original tracks featured here are some of the first tracks to be recorded from the coupling of Nicolas (Drums / Vibes) and Chris (Samples / Programming). 'Motown' features fellow Berlin-based originator Touchy Mob on vocals, telling a touching, foreboding and spaced-out tale of modern melancholy. The sparkling electronics of 'Liebknecht' and 'Evi' then follow, only scratching the surface of what these guys can do in a more energetic, nocturnal situation. On the B side we find an extended, freeform version of 'Motown', inspired by a long night at the Kraniche Klub, Hamburg, where label co-founder Ed Davenport was invited by the band to DJ. A 6 hour eclectic 4/4 jam ensued, complete with a mid-March snow storm gently raging outside, and thus the blueprint for this record was complete.

GRAZE minerals possess a superlative lustre, which is most notably seen in diamond. Such frequencies are transparent or translucent in nature, and have a high refractive index . Tones with a true adamantine lustre are uncommon, with examples being cerussite and zircon. MWeapon minerals display luminous bass bands, which appear to move as the specimen is rotated. Such frequencies are composed of parallel fibers, which reflect sound into a direction perpendicular to their orientation, thus forming narrow bands of light. The most famous examples are FM and subtractive, but the effect may also occur in other sound banding - such aquamarine, moonstone and tourmaline. Scrap minerals consist of thin transparent co-planar sheets. Light reflecting from these layers give them a lustre reminiscent of pearls. Such minerals possess perfect cleavage, with examples including muscovite and moss opal.

Phonica unveil the second in a series of three 12" samplers featuring a selection of tracks from their new compilation 'Ten Years Of Phonica'. Phonica favourite Lo Shea kicks off Sampler number 2 with the ominous 'Home', a bassline-heavy house cut that continues on from his streak of high quality and inventive 12" releases on Seaghdha. Medlar and Red Rack'em join forces for the submerged 'Morning Light'. It's deep house in its truest form and here's hoping they continue to collaborate, because on the basis of this, they're onto something very special. Moiré is another producer Phonica have been hugely impressed with, his highly original 12"s for Werk Discs and Rush Hour blew us away and his contribution 'Solar Signs' doesn't disappoint. Cult producer STL rounds out the 12" with 'Freaky Fingers'. His distinctively twisted take on house and techno is in full effect on this one, whistles and all. As STL releases on labels other than Something or Smallville are a rarity, it's yet another coup for Phonica. Phonica Records was established in September 2003 and set up shop in Soho, London, adding to the high concentration of independent records stores that inhabited the area. Founders; Simon Rigg, Heidi Vanden Amstel and Tom Relleen joined The Vinyl Factory with the aim of creating an exciting outlet for innovative dance music, traversing all sub-genres and cultures. Over the past decade the emporium has developed into a well-respected destination for DJs and enthusiasts, and has subsequently become a bustling hive of conversation and inspiration as part of a wider community of music lovers. While trends and movements in music have grown and faded over these years, Phonica has always remained in a state of evolution. It is this openness to change alongside a commitment to it's original ethos and an enduring ardour for quality, cutting-edge sounds that has fuelled the shop's staying power. To celebrate reaching this milestone, Phonica Records have invited some of their favourite artists to produce a track for an eclectic yet cohesive compilation, which will hopefully go some way towards sonically unfolding the 'Ten Years of Phonica.'

Sequencias number 10 should give anyone unfamiliar with the label a good idea of what we're about. Three very different artists have given us three very different tracks—collectively forming a sort of manifesto. Experimentation, rhythm and reflection are all given equal weight on this record. As with everything we present, it is all in the service of expressing the flawed and the human. Nick Lapien returns once again as Metropolis, starting off the EP with the miniature epic "Balefire". Just shy of ten minutes, the beatless undulating cypher flows and fluctuates, its tangle of vibrating arpeggiated melodies whip about gaining momentum, falling into the ether. Brooklyn's Shawn O'Sullivan comes through with "Corypha", a straight up club track showcasing some well-crafted modular treacle over a tough brokenbeat. Mathematics affiliates Echo 106 close out the compilation with the meandering Chicago-facing "Withered Leaves". Tried and true box work merely sets the stage here with haunting melodies at the forefront, floating towards a swell of doleful synths as an emotional coda.

Bushwick venue Bossa Nova Civic Club is one of Brooklyn's more recent additions, yet has become a focal point for some of NYC's key figures with events featuring representatives from L.I.E.S. and The Bunker complementing guests like Jacques Renault and Anthony Naples. Emboldened by this prospering creative vibe, Bossa Nova Civic Club have teamed up with Sisterjam, a local consultation, management and event promotion collective for a series of 12" EPs under the banner Bushwick Is Melting. This first volume features four tracks from Brooklyn-based producers, each reflecting a different side to the area's musical underground. L.I.E.S. artist Marcos Cabral contributes, as does his Runaway partner Jacques Renault who teams up with NYC techno veteran Mark Verbos, whilst there is also music from Mannequin Records act Dusk, and Aurora Halal, the person behind the Mutual Dreaming parties who makes her solo production debut with "Hazy G".

Bonar Bradberry and Tom Thorpe make up the boogie boat that is PBR Streetgang. One of the most interesting and evolving partnerships to form through the infamous circus of Leeds nightlife. A collaboration that has earned them respect across the musical spectrum. PBR counts fans among luminaries such as Lindstrom and Greg Wilson to Clive Henry and Pete Tong. Their unique musical approach threads Paradise Garage disco to deep groovy house and tracky beats seamlessly, never failing to connect with the crowd. Over the last five years, their DJ partnership has evolved into audience enthralling sets which flow effortlessly from Ableton live to the turntables and back again. The duo have landed a much sought after and prestigious residency at the famed WeLove…party playing on the terrace at Space, Ibiza as well as playing all over the world, from The Garden Festival to the Warehouse Project and Renate. Building on from critically acclaimed releases on labels such as 2020 Vision, Future Boogie, Hot Creations, Hypercolour and Southern Fried Records, PBR have come to Throne of Blood with three quirky and emotive house jams. The Achilles EP is an eclectic trip through deep house, moving from the piano-heavy "Achilles" to the narcotic vibe of "Name It Later" and the discoid "Trap Door." Completing the package, Bradberry and Thorpe asked the Montreal-based producer Iron Galaxy (Turbo Recordings, Audio Culture, Born Electric) to turn in a remix of "Achilles." Pairing the deep low end of the original with a whole new atmosphere and heavily psychedelic layers of synths, the Iron Galaxy remix is as invinsible as it's namesake Greek demi-god.

VENT loves raw and unpretentious techno. The second love dose comes from no other than Miss Sunshine, who has distilled her intimate knowledge of techno dance floors worldwide for us into two driving tracks - one of which is remixed by Zadig. In this instalment, Miss Sunshine plays with the dichotomy between the feelings of entrapment and revelation, and does so in the language that VENT prefers to communicate with: no-nonsense, stripped down techno. “Trapped” is filled to the brim, curled tightly into position ready to burst with kinetic energy. Like a compressed spring, it waits to be released and yield to its essence, free of containment. “Revealed” on the other hand is an amalgamation between relaxedness and vital energy, as its cool pads contrast with the tireless percussive rhythm. To reveal does not mean that it shows, it means that it lets one see. Zadig's remix takes “Trapped” to another place, high and deep at the same time, where he binds the listener to the state that only techno can bring to mind and body. "Valcrond Video presents the next work by sound and image artist Luke Wyatt, ""Songs From Bad Kid School"". On a high desert plain, inside a cinder block compound, a prank squad is incarcerated. Between fiddling with ninja stars and leafing through back issues of Fangoria, they find time to scrape out the soundtrack of their escape. On the first track, heatsick guitars and steel wool beats suggest a landscape strewn with abandoned car carcasses, old Camaros left for dead in the sun, used for shotgun practice. The B-side leads off with the beat-less, articulated sprawl of ""Saline Flats"". Here is the story of a desert search for water: figures warping mirage-like on the horizon as they make a confused journey over dunes, ending with a cathartic drone that suggests the mirages resolving into a real oasis. Though it is just as likely that the bad kids have expired from thirst, and ascended to the sublime."
