For Cadenza's latest output, the imprint serve up something a little different from usual with a versus Ep from two astonishingly contrasting yet equally prominent artists within electronic music. No remixes or reinterpretations are to be seen but instead, a meeting of minds between Mirko Loko and Stacey Pullen with 'Deux Élements'. Titled in fitting reflection of the combination of Swiss born Mirko Loko and Detroit innovator Stacey Pullen, this two track cut is as its name projects in all musical and conceptual aspects. Whilst Mirko Loko is by no means new to Cadenza after releasing his highly praised 'Seventynine' Album on the label in 2009, Stacey Pullen is a fresh Cadenza artist that the label couldn't be more excited to have aboard...This is 'Deux Elements' The Ep's first piece is "Formulaic Mode', a twisted combination of chaotic clicks merged with underlying melodies and a serene ambience of calm. At first glance "Formulaic Mode" coaxes into techno territory as tinny high's and hazy kicks dominate the bubbling and electronically sparked vocal snippets. Progressing further into a solid techno realm, drums crash and the stomp evolves; there's no doubt at this stage, "Formulaic Mode" is techno in the truest sense. Subtley though, mystical string arrangements invade the march and envelope it so gently that as our feet continue to, our hearts are tugged by crying violin strings and our minds melt from within. A unique layering of conflicting themes, "Formulaic Mode" works magically. Flipping over to the B-side, Mirko and Stacey present ‚Tronic Illusion' next, working with the same intelligent concept of tones and scenes as "Formulaic Mode", our flitting journey starts all over again. Fuelled by an underlying groove and percussive wooden rhythm sections, "Tonic Illusion" flirts with thundering house vibes and subdued drawn out choral chants. Constantly unfolding, "Tonic Illusions" long shimmering hats and stabbing crunchy elements weave in and out, ensuring we are continuously entertained whilst floating effortlessly from beginning to end. The atmosphere that 'Deux Élements' evokes with these two starkly different soundscapes is unique and intriguing - a combination of two strikingly different artists in a surprising and bounding release from Cadenza.

The notorious Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts makes a triumphant return to Circus Company after last year's critically acclaimed album, Breaking the Fourth Wall, with 3 deeper than deep (s)explosions sure to become omnipresent fixtures in the sets of damn near any DJ with even a shred of good sense in the months to come. 'Ubiquitous Gaze' gets the ball rolling in classic Coutu Dumont style with a rollicking sea of percussion thankfully populated with a few desert islands of respite in the form of a gorgeously lush string and piano arrangement and the soft meandering monologue of a certain well known musician discussing his craft. B side leader 'You're the One' comes on strong with a bouncing D-town bassline and soft stabbing chords that would make Kenny Larkin proud before rolling out a high stepping lead organ and swinging vocal chops before tying the whole funky mess together with one of his trademark charging conga lines. Known for his unbound generosity and proving it here once again, a beatless stringapella of 'Ubiquitous Gaze' closes out the flip in fine style for those inclined to ride this one into a full epic journey territory. Yet more proof, as if any were needed, of Guillaume's place at the very top of the mountain called house.

25-year-old Tim Green from the South of England is well-known to the attentive observer of the electronic dance music scene: Besides releases on Get Physical, Trapez and Four:Twenty Recordings, he also gained a lot of attention with his contributions to the third Cocoon 10" vinyl ("Lone Rider") and the Cocoon Compilation I ("Exercise"). On his debut EP, Green presents the whole stylistic bandwidth that modern floorfillers can have. For almost ten minutes, "Lemon" oscillates between a full frontal percussion assault, fragmented Deep House vocals and Detroit-influenced harmonies, consequently setting the signs to 'summer'. The first track on the flipside, "Jimmy Rave Up", is a dark and pushing runner that impressively proves Green's wealth of variants once again. The trio is completed by "Dodjo", a track that forms a more than pleasing intersection between tropic Calypso sounds and machine-like strictness - an unforgettable track that will echo long after the year 2011, promised!

The character of the hero first came up in the ancient world. The word 'heros' originally comes from classical Greek and was often used to describe the mythical founders of cities and nations. Many of the ancient hero figures were at the same time demigods or at least the objects of a strong religious worship. What was that again? God is a DJ? All jokes aside. The Cocoon team around Sven Väth has chosen the motto "Cocoon Heroes" for the twelfth Cocoon Ibiza season. Not as a self-adulation, as in the end all participants - whether they are behind the decks, the bar or, above all, on the dancefloor - are the true heroes of the night. And as the official warm-up for this mega event series, Cocoon Recordings is providing us with the now fifth edition of the Ibiza Summer Mix. One of the true highlights in this season is the performance of Adam Beyer on July, 25th. The Drumcode label head who lives in Stockholm is, together with Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills and Sven Väth, one of the most influential figures in electronic dance music for more than fifteen years now. Often being a guarantor for stringent and hard Techno as a producer, Beyer proves his musical complexity as a DJ with an energetic tour de force between hypnotic-percussive Tech House, Dub and Acid, and finally surprises the listener with a distinct affinity to meaningful vocal samples. With some brilliant tracks from Function, Radio Slave, Joel Mull, Paul Ritch, Jesper Dahlbäck and, first and foremost, with Beyer's collaboration with Alan Fitzpatrick ("Human Reason"), the sweat is most certainly going to be pouring over the dancefloor. Dorian Paic, Frankfurt resident and co-owner of the record store authority Freebase as well as label head of Raum...Musik, has been an essential part of the Rhein Main scene for many years now and is part of the line up at the Grand Opening party at Amnesia. Those who have already experienced Paic as a DJ know about his matchless talent to make tastefully reduced but nevertheless unmistakeable Tech House jewels tell their own very unique story. With his hypnotic and relaxed mix, Dorian oscillates within an artistic synthesis that distinctively bows to the roots of Minimal Techno, and the selection of tracks from artists like Baby Ford & Zip, Daniel Bell, DJ Sneak or Daniel Stefanik reveals the true connoisseur. Especially in the consonance of those two very different types of elaboration of modern electronic dance music, the listeners will already be enchanted at home, by this utopia of this collectively created power between the sun, the sea and the sound.

Audiofly's debut album "Follow My Liebe" is the long-awaited passion project that references all shades of the duo's production spectrum. Vocals are an integral part of the brilliant LP, providing its most affecting, personal moments. The melancholic electronic pop of album favourite "6 Degrees", featuring Fiora, is the second album cut to undergo the remix treatment, this time receiving unique re-tweaks from Booka Shade, Martin Buttrich, Tale Of Us and Guti. Get Physical veterans Booka Shade lead the way with their signature sparkling electronic tones and sound quirks. Over a one-note melody that thrums and thickens, synch chords develop into a hypnotic rhythmic progression. Voices heave, slow to a crawl and are dragged backwards as liquid sounds bubble, and swirling sounds quickly spiral to a peak. As it blossoms into a cut-up chorus melody, it's clear that the genre masters are rewriting electrohouse into a sleek and modern sound for 2011. Tale Of Us isolate a faraway snare, and drench it with layers of reverb and sinister synth pads, creating an eerie, sombre atmosphere. Moving closer to the original, the newcomers' remix unfolds with its infections melodic progression. By dialling down the bass and bringing the vocals to the fore, Tale of Us draw heavily on its electronic pop roots, but keep it just left of centre by shrouding everything in mists and echoing noises, to devastating effect.

This is one of those timeless tracks that you still hear played out today. When it was released, Orbit 1.3 was played by pretty much every representative of the tech-house sound - it featured on mixes by Craig Richards & Lee Burridge, Doc Martin, DJ Garth, Sean Cusick, DJ Three, and many more besides. Not only that, but its appeal spread as far as the progressive fraternity and those of more traditional house sounds. Hallucination Limited delivers a limited edition vinyl only release from none other than fellow New Yorker… Zev of Wolf + Lamb. Gathered here are Zev's strongest outings for the club since the brilliant "Forget The World feat. Beckford". We dare say this is his best work to date with "Queen Of Hearts" being one of the freshest takes we've heard on good ole house music this year. Pushing all the right buttons, but also some most would never think to.
QUEEN OF HEARTS feat. PANU MOON
The initial groove instantly does what all great house does, but what follows are the contemplative vocals of a showman on the road via Panu Moon's soft country drawl… playfully tweaked by Zev adding an edge without taking away from Panu's croon. An unexpected techno vibe begins to ebb and flow over the groove yet it all magically stays together through the voice of a man searching for the Queen of his Heart. It's house music with both an edge and sense of humor not unlike Paperclip People, but in a vein more akin to "Every Now And Then" by Ralph Falcon.
CAN'T GET HIGH
For our bodies and minds this taps directly into the spirit of Brooklyn's nu-disco house scene from the honest eyes of Zev. A smiling groove laced with a sense of urgency for those bodies on the dance floor speaking their minds . The city, the man, the feeling all come through….. Can't Get High … without you.
TONIGHT
Tonight plays like a lost classic. A familiar vocal calling soars skyward into the night turning this low slung bass groove into a rally for disco glory. Hardly strangers to the scene, Daniel Bortz & Sascha Silber give what could very well be the summer hit of 2011. The 2 track EP titled 'Color Of Love/Fantasy' is incredibly effective in creating a smooth late summer feel, perfect for open air nights.
Straight kicks, crunchy snare's, and pressed hi hats, a bassline bounces next to the deep kicks. This is the "Color Of Love", a slow burner, craving to make dancefloors itch. The melodie repeats, as it infects the soul and spreads to the body. Your feet begin to twitch as the vocals haunt the track again and again, begging to tell a story. Pads rise, surrounding the sharp mix of percussion and bass, creating a sense of floating along a river of rhythm and tone. This track is not afraid to burrow inspiration, you have heard it before, but never like this.
If you are looking for that one moment in a party, when you realize everything is perfect, "Fantasy" is exactly what you've been waiting for. We jump right in with kicks snares and an interestingly simple organ. Cue the vocal, and bring out the bassline, a groovy mix of deep tones and unique rhythm. The pads bring a new depth to the mix and a smile to your face while the soulfull, downpitched vocals flutter left and right. This is the track you remember when the party is long since over. This bassline, this vocal hook, this night. This isn't real life, this is "Fantasy".

Aah, how we have missed them! The fine young gentlemen that are Channel X, two of Stil vor Talent's most active producers of meticulously crafted and deeply energetic tech-house smash hits. And just in time for the open-air season they now come back with two very convincing pieces of dancefloor art. First up is 'Little Symphony', an epic space opera that takes it cues from early 90s techno and mixes it up with post-modern grooves and beats. The wide and open spaces are filled with some very hymnal string patterns that are given a final treatment with a reverbed and high-pitched vocal sample. Contrast that with the rather jittery beat and a subbass as deep as the frequencies will go and you got yourself a substantially clear bit of techno that is best imagined when it is dark and only some beams of air tell you where you are. Channel X do not produce, they direct and all of the sounds are their actors! On the flip things get more light-hearted and set for the daylight hours as well. 'Steamboat Willie' is a heavily sample-orientated swinging piece of jack. The rhythm guitar lead the way on top of a clap-based loop that sets the basis for some very jazzy interpretations along the way. Clarinets, trumpets, percussions, brass, effects and even some talking vocal samples are all allowed to join in this hedonistic big band that is at play. This is one for the sunshine, this is one for the smiles on the faces, this is one to feel instantly good about yourself and everything around you. Two very different tracks on this EP, but both equally stand out for themselves.
