430West Records celebrates an epic journey of groundbreaking music by revisiting classic tracks fromits 20year history with new reworkings from some of the Burden brothers' favorite producers. Following the success of Volume 1-4 of the Revisited 12" Series, the label now prepares to release a special Octave One respective album, 'Revisited:Here,There, and Beyond'.It features tracks from the series as well as new and limited released recordings. On this collection 430West ventures into the label's founding band's catalog starting with the seminal tracks 'Meridian' and 'Dema',remixed here by Octave One themselves. On this journey we also find the Burden brother's debut on Derrick May's Transmat imprint, 'I Believe' getting a very special treatment from the enigmatic techno unit,Sandwell District'.Featuring vocals from Lisa Newberry, the track was co-written and produced by Anthony 'Shake' Shakir.Aril Brikha, the master behind the massive hit 'Groove La Chord', lays his hands on 'Daystar Rising',from the monumental Underground Resistance/430West Records limited released record.Sweden's Cari Lekebusch takes on 'Love and Hate' originally released on Octave One's live DVD 'Off The Grid' on Berlin's seminal TresorRecords. Cari reworks 'Love and Hate' to give us his previously vinyl only "Revealed Mix".Continuing on with another Tresor (and Kanzleramt) artist, Berlin resident Alexander Kowalski restyles 'I Need Release'. Featuring vocals from Ann Saunderson, the original was the first release taken from Octave One's 'Summers on Jupiter' album. From the debut 43West Records release, "Octivation EP, Planet E/Tresor/Delsin artist,Vince Watson, offers his melodic take on Octave One's 'Nicolette'. 20 year+legend himself, OstgutTon/Novamute artist (and London's own) Luke Slater takes to a more recent O1 club gem and re-?evolves 2010's 'The Greater Good'. R&S/Sony's Japanese Techno pioneer Ken Ishii alsolooks to the roots of the label and finds inspiration in Octave One's 'Nicolette', offering his own club pushing remake. From Octave One's native Detroit comes the keys behind Underground Resistance/DJ Rolando anthem 'Knights of the Jaguar', Gerald Mitchell, and his Los Hermanos remix of 'Somedays'. This also features the vocals of Ann Saunderson, taken from the Octave One album 'Theory of Everything'.Rounding out the remixers are Roman Fluegel and Joern Elling aka Alter Ego, the producer's of the dance floor killer 'Rocker' and remixers of THE HUMAN LEAGUE, PRIMAL SCREAM, CHICKS ON SPEED, SVEN VATH, BABY FORD, and CABARET VOLTAIRE among others. They contribute their great talent to the forever O1classic 'Blackwater' once again with the vocals of Ann Saunderson.

Brian Sanhaji, drumcell, - Split
For CLR057 sonic wizard Brian Sanhaji from Frankfurt and Southern California´s techno champ Drumcell teamed up to create a mighty big four track EP featuring "Split" and "Structure", two brand new original tracks with their corresponding dub versions. Even for people who are familiar the work of both of the renowned producers, listening to this release will surely end up to be a pleasantly surprising experience.
The outstanding productions combine many characteristics at the same time. They are diversified and intelligent, aggressive but funky and sound simultaneously brilliant and dirty. Both artists are known for pushing the limits of their gear in the studio as well as playing out live, and you can literarily feel the fun they had when they were producing this memorable EP. CLR057 is an explosion of good energy and a faultless manifestation of mind-bending techno.

The restless take a remix break! With their Formatik 008, Format:B presents three artists- each taking on a title of their current album to knit them in their own manner. At the head the berlin buddies Pan Pot, shake the A1 with a breeze of rave-charm as usual right out of their sleeve, rocking the track "Liquid" to it's climax then glazing the peak with the smooth voice of Fran. On B1 DJ PP accelerates. Gabriel Rocha is how he's called in real life, is one of the South-American stars of the scene, who's being celebrated by heavy-weight producers like Mark Knight. He's not only home in Uruguay but also in the Beat-Port charts, delivering an energetic Remix of "Oversexed". Last but not least: the winner of the remix-contest in which Format:B has listened through a house-high pile of promos is Tobi Kramer- a young artist of the neighborhood, who has been casted showing his talent by making out of "Socks and Sandals" one more time a club-hit.

Stefan Goldmann's "Adem" finally brings a new concept of handling melodies to the world of House and Techno. Pushy synths tuned to Arabian intervals, playfully pitch bent around one repeated note that sticks to the kick as if it's life depends on it.
It's as if a parallel universe's Acid has been invented in some lunatic asylum in Tirana. This primitive melody is as alienatingly synthetic as it is offensively brain-dissolving. In the hands of a DJ, "Adem" is like the Captagon formula in the hands of the Bulgarian secret service: many deaths, big bucks. Chalga, Tallava, Manele - call it anything.
The B-side's "Rigid Chain" is as detuned, yet strictly limited to a rogue off-beat bassline pumping in between metallic house drums. That's it.

Quenum, - Another Day
Phillipe Quenum, Cadenza co-founder and long-time dj & producer emerges on Serialism Records armed with a soulful, four-track EP just in time for Spring. Widely known for co-producing the 2003 hit, "Orange Mistake", as well as a myriad of other first-rate outputs, this gifted producer needs no introduction. Quenum's Another Day EP is right at home on Serialism, a label that's known for its consistent and classic dance-floor orientated releases from the likes of Frank Haag, Sierra Sam and Jin Choi. Laden with emotive, ascending synths, abyssal atmospheres and dubby basslines, this record is the true mark of a seasoned producer. From the percussive and texturized arrangement of Another Day to the Chicago inspired oscillating goodness of My Furious Thing, to the late night deep vibes of Everyday People to the nu-jazz flecked digital only Electric Prayer, Quenum knows how to evoke emotion on the dancefloor. Each track is the perfect backdrop for the onset of the Spring / Summer season, all four cuts melodic and deep, infused with elements of Chicago house, and touches of both soul and jazz. This timeless release further affirms Quenum's rightful place as one of the top producers in the game.

Chris Wood, Meat, - Tazarine
Souvenir is proud to present its 44th EP from a duo of Frankfurt's favourite sons, Chris Wood and Carsten 'Meat' Schuchmann.
Both Chris and Carsten have come up through Frankfurt's music scene, Chris with his long time residency at the infamous Monza club and Carsten having started the city's premier record shop Freebase, still going strong 18 years later. Trained as a studio engineer, Chris cut his chops under the wise wings of Pascal FEOS and joined forces with Meat, who held residencies at Cocoon and Robert Johnson. Last year they dropped the mighty 'Triple S' on Souvenir, which destroyed dance floors as far afield as Sao Paolo to Ibiza.
For this release they offer up another wild percussive workout in the form of the title track, something a little more syncopated on the humorously titled 'Dub Your Step' and a bonus track with an infectiously familiar little melody, not to forget a reimagining of the delirious A-side from the head honchos themselves, Tiefschwarz. 'JR Juniors' itself brings a distinct jungle-era drum palette, rough snares and claps hammering away while a chopped vocal raves it up, the slower house tempo doing little to lessen the frantic stabbing synthline's effect. The brothers Schwarz smooth things over, bring funkier, tribal drums, reducing the vocal to a reverberating echo that ducks and weaves around your headspace. The third track, is like a little woodpecker has just landed straight in your eardrum, pecking out an insistent, wriggling bassline with an off-kilter half-step beat to accompany the track's name. The digital only, is a pile of children's building blocks whose constituent parts slowly come together, with an extremely familiar little melody underpinning the solid drum work.

Sierra Sam, Paris The Black Fu, - Welcome To The Blackout
In no other year was the end of the world as fashionable as it is in 2012. But while Roland Emmerich has to dig knee-deep in trash and throw millions out the window for special effects gimmickry in order to bring drama to the screen, it only takes Sierra Sam a freshly made studio in our comforting Berlin-based Upon You refuge. A newcomer to our crew, this Belgian producer and label owner of Toys For Boys has already established his own decade-plus career, and his experience shines through clearly on UY059. The title track "Welcome to the Blackout" holds up not just on great production, but also from the mystical vocals that Paris The Black Fu offered for this release. That's why we've included the "a cappella" as a digital bonus, for the more adventurous DJs out there. For the flip side, Sierra Sam picked his English cohort Inxec - already known for his numerous releases on labels such as Cocoon, Cityfox, Contexterrior and currently Crosstown Rebels - for a fresh remix. Closing track "Chambers" seals the deal on this singing, ringing hit plastic disc that no survival kit should be without.

The third installment in the Cobblestone Jazz 12" series brings two more tracks.
On the A side we find "Who's Future?". Full of bubbling elastic bass and deep chord swells, it's a laidback affair with a snappy groove to push it along. On the flip is "Across the Nation", a stripped out and up-tempo electro jam with crisp breaks and gated pads. All the elements mingle together to create a thick bed of future funk. Another wheel for your wagon.

Butane, - 69
Two American heroes team up to deliver the straight prison-funk, and they've got the tattoos to prove it. Somebody call the Department of Homeland Security. It's no secret that Kris Wadsworth and Butane have both done hard time. In this case, a simple mutual respect lead to the decision that this record must be made. And so here it is. Three tracks of uncompromising raw attitude. Nothing premeditated here. Just honest, warehouse-style jack-mode techno, done by two of the Midwest's finest. Some DJs over-sell themselves with contrived media stunts, fancy PR schemes, and little substance. You'll find none of that here. We're just a couple of convicts who rip raw techno tracks. We speak through our music.

We wish there were more moments like the ones that Madis One’s new 12”, In The Image (BLNK-27), brought to mind. "The Hotness" is just that; a mechanical, bass driven, hip-hop cut while "The Abyss" recalls the days when the Amen Break and substance reigned over celebrity status. Available on 12” vinyl, cut at 45 RPM. We recommend trying these out at 33 RPM as well!

BPC lady Ellen Allien requests your company at the Allien Dance. Dark Electro meets House! The current 12" "Galactic Horse" was co-produced by her label-mates Skinnerbox expect the unexpected, you might say and you would be spot on. "Take Me Out" slams into your ears with a bone-dry, crunching oldschool-electrofunk beat. This is gradually sweetened over the course of the next seven-and-a-half minutes with catchy string hooks and atmospheric sounds. Whether in the club or on the couch, you'll find it impossible to resist the suspense that spans the track. On the flip side "Need" treats us to a pure house beat as classic as it gets. But you soon realize that this carefree party vibe isn't really taking itself seriously brass hooks and playful vocal samples quickly and firmly take root in your auditory canals, leading you to hear "Need" as a tongue-in-cheek parody of house music. An eight-minute happy-hormone treatment with no side effects!

This is the first vinyl teaser for the upcoming Andre Lodemann album "Fragments" which is to be released in May 2012. The album contains both original material and remixes produced by Andre Lodemann.Ê This EP selection features brand new remixes for the South African House group Liquideep and the Charles Webster produced January Tuesday both 2012 releases. Lodemann's Edit for Lusine's "Two Dots" was originally done for private use. Now it found its way to a release. Lodemann's Mes remix was somewhat overlooked and now receives proper support here. All tracks bear Lodemann typical production style creating an epic emotional ride.

CHICAGODAMN arrived on the scene with an instant classic on MARK E's MERC label Following this was the stunning debut on his own label, as well as acclaimed releases on the excellent Wolf Music & Claremont65 offshoot Sixtyfive. So here we have the eagerly awaited follow up, strobelit futuristic warehouse tackle once again, shot through with the enduring spirit of first-wave Detroit Techno and the pared down pulse of Chicago. It’s five years ago since the last FSOJ Vol. 11 was released, while the first one of this classic series was released in 1995. WelI, i have the feeling we are in a time machine now, back to some roots of FSOJ. Most of the tracks on Vol. 12 reminds me to the vibe of the first two or three editions of this series, especially the slower tunes, well the sound at all, too. I can state: since 2007 till end of 2010 i have had a bit of a lack (with regards to content – bit empty argument place), neither I felt there is a need, nor did i felt the hedonic lust to compile another FSOJ. Well, there were a few good tunes out there that period, but not enough to carpenter and prepackage a whole compilation i would be proud of. Allowedly, between 2007 and 2010 I was, like many others, caught by the disco-, edit- and deep house fever. Well, i still have this temperature, but nowadays such music is going to fuse more with the vibes and ingredients which i was prospecting for FSOJ. My stronger forage for FSOJ tunes started 2010, was tighten up 2011, while i got a déjà-vu: a lot of great future jazzy tunes, very interesting projects are around these days, which are close to the asthetic of sound und feeling of the early and mid Nineties, lot of reminiscence here and there. Anyhow, since Vol. 1 we must notice two totally new generations grown up, isn’t it public that every seven (7) years of music and cultural awareness we can salute to a new generation. I think, the younger projects here (for example: Lo Tide from Australia, Anchorsong and Ragout DeLapin, both acts from Japan, Scrimshire, Letherette, Laszlo, Sepalcure, Eden, Ensemble Du Verre) reflecting this. I don’t mind if someone may deningrate or denuciate this as a lounge revival, it’s about music, not where you listen to this.

With their 22nd release, Culprit unleash their most narratively and sonically rich EP, courtesy of one of the genre’s unique young voices, jozif. His ‘Lady B EP’ is a work of intricate conception that goes well beyond typical dance music themes, instead serving up a personally vivid and cohesive story. With these five immaculate tracks, Culprit appears closest to fulfilling their mission statement of delivering music cinematic in its scope, true to their Los Angeles roots. ‘Lady B’ chronicles an intimately personal set of experiences for jozif, reflecting a time and an emotional place with honesty and verve. Adventurous and offbeat, this is a 5-tracker full of musical influences all jozif’s own, well in synch with his unique narrative idea. Full of swelling strings, dramatic piano flourishes, and guitar melodies rarely found elsewhere in modern house music, this is a fluid sonic journey with mood changes abound.

Check The Guns are back with the second to last instalment in their Tape edit series. It’s onwards and upwards for 004 where side one sees a deconstructed work out of The Fatback Bands ‘The girl is so fine’. Track 2 ‘House down’ is a no holds barred party tune for the discerning dance floor that will do all the work for you. On the flip ‘Sugar samba’ is a rework of the London records classic from Julia and co. Finishing off we have an edit of Heatwaves ‘Super Soul Sister’ which is a gem of a vocal funk track that gives as good as it gets and leaves you wanting more.

Foolish' Felix Dickinson's superb CYNIC label with another hot one ! Cynic’s latest release features another killer track from L.H.A.S. Inc. (Jamie Read and Felix Dickinson).
Analogue synths and vintage drum machines rock along with an infectious old school style reminiscent of the early sounds coming from Chicago and New York in the late 80’s early 90’s.
Think Clubhouse meets Nu Groove. On the B side Phoreski (Felix’s fellow resident at London’s Bad Passion) delivers a remix that takes the track to another level, darker haunting synths and a robo vocal asking, ‘Do you like the way you feel, will you dance with me’.

Dekmantel proudly presents the return of Vedomir to their imprint – with nothing less than a full length album this time ! Mister Karpenko was responsible for one of the most in demand Dekmantel releases to date (Picture Of You EP), so this artist album is the next inevitable step. The Ukraine-based producer shows he’s getting more mature with every release, delivering a comprehensive artist album that crosses over genres easily. Ranging from downtempo, almost jazz-like slowburners to haunting Chicago house with a true analog feel, and from dark electro stuff, to the beautiful ambient soundscape: this record is a piece of stunning musical versatility.

.another one! this time it's SKUDGE SKUDGE SKUDGE VS SAN SAN SAN PROPER PROPER PROPER..... BIG 12"! TIP Skudge – Silent Running
Swedish duo Skudge ends Dekmantel’s compilation the way we expected them to do: with a fierce jacking and hypnotizing techno monster. Lights off and strobes on please, this is for the heads (do people still say that?!)
San Proper – Rattle (Station2Station) Like the earlier mentioned Juju & Jordash and Makam, San Proper has been involved in Dekmantel’s activities from the very beginning as well. It seems that the notorious Dutchmen is getting better with every release. Rattle is an exiling piece of house music, that will shake up dance floors easily.

ndrew Samoyed used to be such a nice young man. When he wasn't wearing lovely jumpers or impressing people's mothers, he was toying with his synthetic pianos and computer chips to create ambient heartbreakers that could reduce your most unresponsive uncle to a snivelling mess. Imagine everyone's surprise then, when sometime after the release of his 2007 debut 'Always From This Point', without warning or reason, the famed Samoyed eye-glint started to cloud over. As much as everyone tried to fool themselves otherwise, something had gone horribly wrong in the young Geordie's mind-brain. His jaw was now so permanently clenched in brooding that his face began to change shape, turning angular and unfriendly. His friends swear that sometimes you could actually literally see the anger bubbling in his belly. The change was also clearly mirrored in Samoyed's musical output. There was a new hatred in the young mans drones, a violence in his clicks. Most notably though, there was the addition of an element not heard in his music before : The Drum. It was at this point that Glum decided to sign him. Her Honey Dripping Behind EP, Samoyeds first release on the label, follows in the raw and dusty techno footprints of Glums previous two vinyl outings from Lukid, and represents a great leap forward from his already-quite-marvellous Spit 10 released complete with Lukid remix on Astro Dynamics late last year. It also harbours a deadly secret weapon on its B side, namely Klondike Rush, a rave banger so potent that it has proved to make Glaswegians spontaneously slap walls and scream.

Patiently waiting for the year of the dragon to commence, Nick Chacona & Anthony Mansfield are finally back with a 3 track EP of epically mental proportions! Hector Works' numero uno duo take on a true journey to house music Neverland with the Peter VS Pan EP. Almost two and half years in the making, the boys reveal their many facets of cosmic, sleaze disco and acid wonk One The A side, Pan Vs Peter is a Tech Funk heavy slow house burner, that shimmers with dubbed out guitar, thumps with Low end and grooves the like the funk brothers at opium afterhours. Think Vacum Boogie meets Silver Connection and you are almost there. Starting off the B-side is the EP's title track Peter Vs Pan and it's right out the gate NCAM Drunkhouse maddness. A timeless disco house groove with a bassline so big that we were certain that it was gonna blow out the lathe and never actually get cut (thankfully mastering made sure that didn't happen :). And to round things out, the boys get hard on the acid house tip with Terry's Nightmare, an ode to the grouchiest bartender at Peter Luger's Steakhouse in Brooklyn NY.

This next instalment of Psychemagik's edit series is a two sided journey through the cosmos and back down to Earth. First on the countdown screen is 'Way Milky'. Leading the inter-play between instruments is a deep hypnotic bass that creates a throbbing atmosphere for spacy 70's keys and inter-galactic sound effects. Hiding in the background are funky drums and a lead guitar that dons a space suit goes exploring. Ready for blast off? 'Make it mellow' is that warm-you-through Balearic bliss that this dynamic duo are masters of. A delicious edit, this encapsulates the sound of a lazy summer afternoon. Spacy synths and guitars interwoven throughout, the searingly syncopated solo shines in the spotlight. Complemented by chunky bass and soothing vocals that ease their way into your head, this epic summery edit rounds off this B Side beautifully.

IS IT BALEARIC continue to provide a steady supply of killer 12's ! Next release from Is It Balearic..? comes courtesy ofBasel's nu disco wizards Pharoa Black Magic. The track Amulet features the vocal talents of Peter Coyle of The Lotus Eaters. This is a mid tempo mellow electronic/Balearic pop groove. Beautifully produced to create a sublime understated sunshine anthem. Top drawer remixers are present and correct as always: Begin takes the original and creates a deep balearic groove with marimbas and soft synth melodies. Reverso 68 add trademark arpeggios and dance it up a touch whilst original balearic pioneer Steve Proctor rearranges the track into a big chugging acid disco groove.

Emeralds, - Does It Look Like I'm Here?
Feted kosmische synthesizer wizards from Cleveland OH, Emeralds, have never had any of their music remixed before. Let alone having the title track from their acclaimed 2010 album reworked (twice) into a floor-filling behemoth by Daphni (aka Dan Snaith aka Caribou). "We toured together in 2010 and since then I've always wanted to play their music in my DJ sets. So I did my own version of this track", says Snaith. "It's one of those tracks that whenever I play it I can feel the energy in the room lift." Luckily Emeralds were equally enthusiastic and so this unlikely hybrid see the light of day. ...or rather the dark inside of a club.

Karat is delighted with this new single by SEUIL. We’ve been watching this guy attentively in his progression and we’re glad to finally find him on Karat while his production skills have reached a ripe condition. We guess his rise has just begun so watch him carefully in the near future. The two tracks of the record, in different ways , are close to Karat’s spirit ; deep, funky and abstract enough to be used as a floorfiller or at home for a precise listening. Sub boogie drama » is a jazzy atmosphere with an elegant restraint , even if you can feel the real swing in it. Ketalgine network » offers a true inner odyssey, deep, sensual, funky and exquisitely oppressive.

Another entry into the Lonesome Hero roster, Ed Shepherd. Having hoarded an arsenal of hardware goodies, Shepherd employs his passion for all things analog into a beast of a 3-track EP. 'Remedy' grabs 90s acid house by the shirt collar and shoves it into the modern vinyl scene with a heady LFO drone that just won’t quit. Changing direction, 'Britta' epitomizes the fleshed-out inner romanticism Shepherd continually uncovers throughout his ever-evolving studio process. And then 'Beaker', an homage to Techno’s sequenced-and-squelchy Dan Bell era... Another quality release on this nice little underground label.

Expect to get lured into the Purple Maze with this third release by the Dutch imprint, once again by mysterious producer Yør with his “Modern Slaves Of Contemporary Contexts EP”. Again it will be a shadowy and esoteric dancefloor experience like few others. The EP starts with ‘ABCM’, a dystopian landscape of buzzing machines, ticking percussion and raw drums that builds and builds until eventually coalescing into a foreboding and roughshod house groove. The sound of circling space ships, dangling glass tubes and other odd effects flesh out the groove into something really quite intense. 'Dystopia' continues in Yør's tradition of contrary titles, because it's in fact a soothing cut doused in ambiance that relaxes you after the agro ride that went before. There are some bumpy beats underneath the whole thing but the large spaces above are what mostly occupy your mind, before 'Fear And Desire' comes over like a deep, spare Redshape cut: searching synths, a fine grain texture and plenty of disheveled Detroit vibes. Closer 'Phaedra's Love' is a scuffed deep house kicker with delicate tambourines, somber buried melodies and a only the faintest sense of optimism muffled in its concealed core... Modern Slaves Of Contemporary Contexts, then, is another great EP from an unordinary sonic world

4
San Proper, Aroy Dee, - Usher
For its next release, MOS calls on the services of label head Aroy Dee and Perlon/Rush Hour man San Proper to craft a beautiful four track EP entitled “Perfume.” The truth of the matter is, after the friends had enjoyed something of a wild night out in Amsterdam, they returned to San Proper’s studio for a live session which involved a bottle of Scotch! It kicks off with the swirling pads and soft shakers of the title track which immediately sink you into some deep space atmosphere a world away from this one. When kicks do come, they are distant, much like the echoing handclaps, and the whole thing feels like a half-remembered and deepest house dream. The “reprise” version of the same track is even more hollowed out, with less beats, greater echo and a sense of looming melancholia hanging in the air above the swirling sounds below. As for the b-sides, the first is Proper’s Groove mix of “Usher” - it’s a mobile wedge of deep house where the rounded bassline takes centre stage. Around it various melodic stabs add colour and intrigue as it meanders its way forward through classic sounding hi-hat ringlets. It’s mesmerising, of course, but warm and human sounding, too. Finally, Aroy steps up again to provide his melancholy mix of “Usher” which hangs its head more than the Proper version. Here the pads disappear of to infinity and drag you right into their core whilst tense synth sounds wiggle and squiggle in the background. An EP of more mind-melting or heart warming house sounds you are unlikely to hear because Aroy Dee and his MOS are the true masters of future facing, retro-referencing house music...

Aficionado is a Manchester institution, a Sunday night session devoted to the musical miracles which many overlook. Moonboots and Jason Boardman have, over many long years at the helm, championed an endless list of lost classics and new delights. It's the very definition of Balearic, without genre or agenda... So it's high time they had a platform to showcase some of their buried treasure with the rest of us. The debut release defines what they're about perfectly. The super talented Shawn Lee (and his Ping Pong Orchestra ) has released some truly amazing music since the mid-nineties, one of his songs was even covered by the stout chinned talent show crooner / pop sensation Will Young. So, who better to take the gentle melodic bossa of the original to the beach bar than Balearic stalwart & 'nado regular guest DJ, Phil Mison ? Phil expertly re-arranges the song, bringing the percussive elements & acoustic guitar to the fore and adding a splash of sonic confectionery. It's basically sunshine on vinyl. Roll on summer

Collecting the previously digital only releases from the mysterious On The Fly imprint we have no idea if these tracks can be attributed to one person or a collective, but these are hot tracks regardless. The big track is "Burning Sensation", a no-frills, but devastatingly effective house track with Loleatta Holloway's timeless vocal from "Love Sensation", ably accompanied on the A-Side by "S.E. Love", featuring a big Marvin Gaye sample on top of some seriously accomplished deep house production. On the flipside is two versions of "Counterfeit", the first version of which sounds like something the Pet Shop Boys would have made circa Behaviour, had Solomun been producing them rather than Harold Faltermeyer, with a big vocal reminiscent of Peter Gabriel circa "Mercy Street". Its vinyl-only counterpart meanwhile is a more stripped back number with a deep and rumbling bass, proving that, whoever is responsible, On The Fly is one seriously adept outfit.

Andy Ash, - Love Me Straight
Marcos Cabral and Jacques Renault's latest On the Prowl 12" features the return of Andy Ash, the man who dropped "Another World" with them last year (OTP007) as well as a grab of edits on OTP Party Breaks way back in 2010. As is to be expected with the talented, young producer, the EP is all groovy, bouncy, high-octane house with a hardy injection of disco glitz.
"Get Loose" is what its name implies--an elastic, fidgety whirl of dancey guitar strums; a heavy bass that pans in and out, mimicking the experience of opening the door to an underground club; and a playful keyboard melody. "Love Me Straight" is a spacier affair, with a lounge-y pulse and hypnotic synth hook that creeps in, out, and around your ears. The Deep Space Orchestra remix amps up the bass of the original, making the entire track sound like it's being played under water. And "You Show Me" is a perfect example of Ash's trademarks all coalescing into one big pile of shuffling dance floor fun--you can almost see the swirling disco ball lights through your eyelids and feel the smoke machine juice snake into your nostrils.

New 12" heat from DJ Spider and Hakim Murphy on Plan B Recordings called Kaiju EP. Inspired by the giant monster fights that were part of the Saturday
rotations of network TV in the 70's and 80's sparked the inspiration for this 6 track EP. Four futuristic bangers accompanied with two ambient soundscape pieces that take you on a ride through murky beats and lush sound textures. Super banging Chicago-New York hybrid release for the new year!

Prime Numbers returns with a series of remixes of Trus'me favourites, including treatments from a host of current cherished producers. The 12" features the MDR records duo Marcel Dettmann & Norman Nodge. Dettmann takes a diversion from his more familiar techno blueprint, working "Sweetmother" into a tight house groove. Intensifying all parts of the original he creates an insistent and deeply pressured production. On the flip "Good God" gets dubbed & smudged into a beguiling ghostly haze. Nodge completely reworks the mix stripping back & filtering the elements to fantastic effect. Watch out for remixes from Terrence Dixon & DVS1 on part 2 in this series.

Mangled has been a benchmark for quality edits since the late 90's, and with renewed interest in dance music's heritage, Ray has found himself back at the forefront of a scene he was instrumental in forming. Having been behind a plethora of releases on cult Nu-Disco labels like Noid, Fiasco, U Star, Nuphonic, Eskimo etc etc over the years he has cemented his reputation as an amazing producer in his own right as well a studio engineer extraordinaire for the likes of the Idjut Boys, Glimmers & many more.

On "Work That Shit Party," a Fingers Inc. style rhythm buttresses a two-note riff, a crackling male voice filtering in from the ether. A pinging keyboard zips around before that two-note flicker expands and contracts, warps and wheedles. But around halfway in, a female vocal refrain of "Gonna work it out" breaks fat lacerations into pinholes, blaring keyboards seeping in through the gaps and crevices. Then, as with "D117," it's the congealing of all these disparate elements: A "work it out" from Fischerspooner's Lizzy Yoder sashaying with the two-note riff, the keyboards bouncing off the ceiling, and flaring hi-hats fraying the surface played by Pat Mahoney (LCD Soundsystem). Each portion is given its due, only to make the ensuing combination that much more enthralling.

Funckarma goes in league with Onionboy (Darko Esser), both delivering a track of their own, and a remix of each other's. Funckarma's Rusty W is lush electronics and heavy dubstep at the same time, effective & abstract dancefloor artillery! Onionboy's remix is a 100% old school electro track, solid as a rock and reminding a bit of old Rude66 and Satamile tracks. Onionboy's Kokon is an electronic beauty that keeps building up.. tick layers of nostalgic synths over firm beats... magical! Funckarma turn this track inside out with their typical and complex IDM beat structures that can only be done by the Funcken minds. Another uncatagorizable Shipwrec release, limited to 300 copies, full colour artwork and a download code to redeam all audiotracks and artwork in digital format.

Patrice Scott kicks off the 2012 release schedule in proper fashion with the Orbital Bliss EP - Keeping the Sistrum sound true and setting the tone for another year of quality output. We are treated to cool, smooth, futuristic cuts that pay tribute to the wonders of the cosmos. As always, the sounds are carefully crafted and slowly evolving, treating the listener to a refined palette of rhythm and melody suitable for the dancefloor and the living room, alike.
Track 1 - Tones & Things A fitting opener for the EP, "Tones & Things" is a lush, ambient piece featuring icy chord sequences, delayed hi-hats, and various blips and bleeps - prepping you for an intergalactic mission to the deepest reaches of space. This one deserves a good listen in the headphones, for maximum enjoyment. Track 2 - Oberon Feeling like a natural and effortless extension of "Tones & Things," "Oberon" takes us the outer edge of the solar system. Delicately flanged and phased hi-hats dance atop a steadily building groove of swirling synth pads and dark, square-wave bass pulses. Make no mistake, these are hypnotic sounds for enlightened interstellar travel. Track 3 - Orbital Bliss Orbiting a distant moon, the groove locks in with a firm kick and understated percussive elements - providing a foundation on which is layered a futuristic collage of tones and textures. Another hypnotic builder, "Orbital Bliss" is sure to give deep dancefloors a reason to rejoice. Track 4 - Orbital Bliss (P. Scott ReCord Version) Patrice expands on the original theme of "Orbital Bliss" by giving the drums a more crisp, up-front presence. Atmospheric, yet ready to instill movement in the listener, this cut captures the best of both worlds - terrestrial and extraterrestrial. Let this one shine on a proper sound system and the heavens may reveal their secrets.

Leeds/Nottingham duo Mak & Pasteman might be in their 20’s, but their musical influences stretch from the funk and soul of the 60/70’s, through Juan Atkins’ proto-techno, to soulful house, D n B’ and UK Garage. Which won’t surprise anyone listening to this, their debut EP for Shifting Peaks, a 4 track statement of intent that sounds like it couldn’t have been made any time but 2012, but also feels like 20 years of hardcore continuum is embedded deep in it’s musical DNA . EP opener ‘Do the Same’ works a looped up, garagey, energy fuelled vocal around a broken beat, pulsing bassline, and deep pad washes for a hypnotic, but floor friendly outing. ‘Lost’ takes off on a darker tangent, combining a hypno-synth riff with fat drums and buzzing dark-core bassline , before the disembodied vocal sample emerges from the shadows and the spacey breakdown punches back into the brooding body of the tune. Vinyl crackles meld with percussion, subtly orchestrated drama underpins the arrangement , and an atmospheric afterglow from rave’s distant past radiates throughout. On the remix front, Leeds hotshot Youandewan keeps the momentum he built up in 2011 going strong into 012, as he strips down ‘Lost’ into 6.30 mins of synapapse stroking, dubby house. It nods to (post ? ) funky, it probably has relations that fought in the dubstep wars, but in the end it’s deep, immersive house music. San Franciscan Lando Kal didn’t hang about last year either, with quality outings on Rush Hour, Numbers and Hotflush. Here he takes snatches of ‘Do The Same’s vocal and loops it over a rolling, grimey, Washing Machine style bassline and punchy 4/4’s for a brooding, floor friendly mix.

There's been plenty of exchange between the worlds of deeper dubstep and drum 'n' bass over the last few years, with producers like Instra:mental, Icicle and ASC regularly switching between the two to devastating effect. Holland's Gijs Snik, also known as Proxima, the latest signing to Tempa, is no exception. His tracks blend the best aspects of both genres, retaining the edgy moods of drum 'n' bass whilst channeling dubstep's interest in the physically overwhelming properties of sub-bass. *Having started out producing rough-edged, densely percussive drum 'n' bass tracks, for his first ever solo release Proxima has dropped the tempo and upped the space. The result is a pair of subtly aggressive dubstep rollers that combine the warmer, altogether dubbier tones of genre greats like Digital Mystikz with drum 'n' bass's ceaseless forward drive. 'Formal Junction' is stark and metallic, all grinding robot chatter, constantly shifting percussive patterns and the occasional glimmer of melody. 'Grunge' on the flip is even more pared away, breaks in its rolling conga driven rhythm lent extra dread by sci-fi vocal samples. *With his tracks becoming staples in scene figurehead Youngsta's legendary DJ sets and Rinse FM shows, Proxima is swiftly becoming a name to watch in dubstep circles. His deep and deadly take on the more minimal side of the genre ramps up the pressure to near breaking point. *Though the number of producers making vital-sounding dubstep may have slimmed, both tracks offer evidence that there's still a great deal of power within the genre, locked away and just waiting to be tapped.

Huxley is fast becoming one of the brightest lights to emerge from an exciting nascent UK music scene, emerging from the underground clubs of London, Bristol, Leeds and Glasgow. Young producers are honing their talents to create new sounds influenced by the their exposure to house, techno, dubstep and garage music. When 2020Vision approached Huxley we specifically requested that he created a four track EP that truly reflected his skills. He responded superbly and produced the 'Out The Box' EP. On the first track 'Box Clever' Huxley gives us pure house music with rich chords, a killer piano line and a deeply felt female spoken word vocal. The flip side 'Atonement' delves into deep house with layers of subtly worked synths wrapped up around confident New York style garage beats. 'Out of my mind' showcases his love of diverse beats and leaves the four to the floor until late in the track enabling a far busier drum and bass workout with dubstep sentiments. The digitally exclusive 'Feel What You Want' sounds like a session from Secretsundaze with it's classic 90s influenced groove and vocal hooks.
