Frusciante's desire to cede control to machines has paradoxically allowed him to present a singular take on elemental dance music, a brilliant and unexpected entry into Acid Test's growing canon of modern, 303-focused dance music.

"I started being serious about following my dream to make electronic music, and to be my own engineer, five years ago. For the 10 years prior to that, I had been playing guitar along with a wide range of different types of programmed synthesizer and sample based music, emulating as best as I could, what I heard. I found that the languages machines forced programmers to think in had caused them to discover a new musical vocabulary. The various forms of electronically generated music, particularly in the last 22 years, have introduced many new principles of rhythm, melody, and harmony. I would learn what someone had programmed but their thought process eluded me. Programmers, particularly ones fluent on machines from the early 80s and/or tracker programs from the 90s, clearly had a theoretical foundation in their employ but it was not the theory I knew from pop/rock, jazz or classical. The hands relationship to the instrument accounts for so much of why musicians do what they do, and I had come to feel that in pop/rock my mind was often being overpowered by my hand, which I had a strong desire to correct. I was obsessed with music where machine intelligence and human intelligence seemed to be bouncing off one another, each expanding with the incorporation of what it received from the other.

"The ever-busy AUS Music continue to assert their consistency and follow up EPs from Tom Demac, Escape and Youandewan with the second offering on the label from Toronto born Bwana. Having kept his cards close to his chest during a 2 year hiatus from releasing music, Bwana broke the silence with his 'Flute Dreams' EP back in December of 2014 which offered a propitious insight into the second chapter of his anthology. Recently we've been thrilled to announce that Django Django will release their new album, Born Under Saturn, on May 4th 2015 via Because Music.
Django Django's debut album came out in January 2012 on Because Music and was lavished with praise. It was "updated psychedelia that beguiles and delights" (The Guardian), "consistently mind-melting and often brilliant" (Q), "bursting with ideas" (Pitchfork) and "gloriously, unpredictably new" (Mojo). By December it had been shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and named one of the albums of the year by Rolling Stone and NME. They became known from their electric live performances full of energy, and went on to play memorable shows at festivals across the globe including as Glastonbury and Fuji Rock.
This much-anticipated first ep from Born Under Saturn, First Light, will release on April 6th to much excitement with great remixes whose one is produced by recently critical acclaimed producer, Ghost Culture (Phantasy Sound).
Vital Sales Points:
Since the last record, the band have embraced creative opportunities, Dave (drummer and producer) travelled to Mali with Damon Albarn's Africa Express, and Dave and Tommy (synthesizer operator) worked on the score for the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of John Webster's bloodthirsty Jacobean tragedy The White Devil.
Dave established his own label, Kick and Clap, named after the club night he launched when he first moved to Dalston and Vinnie (singer and guitarist) and Jim (bassist) collaborated with award-winning artist Haroon Mirza at Stromboli Arts Festival last summer, at the foot of the island's volcano.

Six years on from his debut album on Cadenza, Mirko Loko returns to the fold with a follow up album ("Comet Plan") and a single ("Kolor"). 2009's "Seventynine" long player helped catapult Mirko's profile, not only as a producer, but also as DJ, regularly spinning alongside the Cadenza crew, and with Detroit luminaries such as Derrick May and Carl Craig. And it's on this single that Mirko invites friend and peer, Carl Craig, to remix under his C2 guise.
Wearing his influences on his sleeve, Mirko is obviously indebted to the techno music of the Motor City, and these classic Detroit tropes are certainly used in the building blocks of the original mix of "Kolor", a sprawling and pacey intergalactic journey sprinkled with a dusting of xylophones, bells & chimes, as the melody is driven forward for a heady trip across the night skies. On the flip, Planet E founder, and highly respected Detroit electronic producer, Carl Craig, weighs in with the first of a two-part remix (part two features on the digital release of the single). Keeping the 4/4 framework of the original mix, and stripping back the percussion somewhat, the C2 Remix Part One is brimming with Craig's trademark sound, from the elastic synths and flanged percs to the heavy low end line that comes in about two thirds of the way through. A perfect introduction to many of the aural treats in store on the "Comet Plan" album out on Cadenza in May.

Now it's the perfect time to breath new life into an album that has stood the test of time, still utterly infectious and absorbing - a collection of music that captures an era of stripped back, yet captivating sounds. 10 years since its release, the album is getting the remix treatment and Marc has called in some of the very best in techno talent to give Restore a fresh makeover. The selection of artists who've contributed to the 'Restored' project includes heavyweights such as Joris Voorn, M.A.N.D.Y. and Popof together with additional reworks from stars of the new generation such as Danny Daze, Julian Jeweil and Harvard Bass, all giving his tracks a new lease of life. The selection of artists who've contributed to the 'Restored' project includes heavyweights such as Joris Voorn, M.A.N.D.Y. and Popof together with additional reworks from stars of the new generation such as Danny Daze, Julian Jeweil and Harvard Bass, all giving his tracks a new lease of life. With this, it seemed obvious to put Ruede up to his next task: an album. It is with great anticipation and excitement that we bring you the first LP for both Ruede and Watergate Records, Apophenia. Apophenia is the experience of seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data, and for Ruede, this is the perfect interpretation to describe his writing process, in which ideas appear from the empty, chaotic darkness. A random chord progression or percussion arrangement opens the door to the imagination where structures appear and begin to take shape. Unlike most of his previous work, Apophenia is not strictly attached to the dance floor, but created to fit just as seamless while listening at home as it is in the club. For over a year, Ruede collected ideas and visualized his plan. It was important not to mimic his earlier work, but to focus on a certain sound. Herva, of Delsin, Kontra, MOS and All City fame, offers another set of forward-thinking dancefloor bombs. Across four tracks this young Italian demonstrates his unique interpretation of the past and the future again and again. Herva is the artist name of Herve Atsè Corti. He was born in 1991, and has been surrounded by music from the beginning thanks to his family. He made a reputation for himself early on at high school as a talented drummer, but, intrigued by electronic music he decided to start making his own beats with a laptop. A few years later Bosconi Records released his early productions, both as Herva both and as Life's Track (a side project with Dukwa). He is also part of Tru West, a collective he founded with Mass Prod, Rufus and Raffaele Amenta.

Philadelphia-based producer Chaperone has been working as a creative partner at Great Circles for the past six months, as well as collaborating with Westov Temple on an ongoing A/V project, Seppuku Overwrite. P O N D is his first 12” release on the label. The A-side of P O N D is comprised of three slow-paced, meditative takes on techno. Samples are blended with cut tape loops, following suit from earlier Chaperone cassette releases - No Gold//Hawaii [Crisis Urbana CU-03] and Reflex/Contaminant [Vague Audio Tapes VAT-003]. Artifacts become instruments. Capstan motors seem to slow, only to catch up again. Torn speaker cones from an earlier noise session are left to flutter, without question or regret. On the B-side are three re-works by Westov Temple, Hero/Victim [of Vague Audio Tapes] and Thug Entrancer [Software], making for faster, more rhythmic versions of the originals, each one zeroing in on and exploiting specific peculiarities of Chaperone’s sound

Ilija Rudman has a passion for disco, pure analogue disco at that with buckets of soul to boot. For over 10 years he's been producing bonafide dance music which has seen him team up with the likes of Mark E, Chaz Jankel, Steve Kotey, The Revenge and Greg Wilson amongst others with releases coming via Rong Music, Under the Shade, Bear Funk and Tirk labels. Here we see Ilija bring a 3 tracker to the table for the KAT imprint which brings somewhat of a change in direction for them as these are not re-edits or reworks but original tracks. ‘Just Remember' is a sultry Summer time Disco house melter which oozes all that's good about dance music... Fender rhodes, laid back guitar licks, strings and a groove that glides along effortlessly throughout but it's the ever so subtle dreamy soulful feel to this track that makes it really shine through. On the flip both tracks take on a slightly more uptempo House feel but the analogue sound continues... ‘Never Forget' really is all about the hooks...staccato guitar licks and a rhythm section that's more solid than your average breeze block. And 'Once and 4 all' ending things on a high with a breathy pad lead track that delivers on all fronts. Iliya's studio has taken 3 years to build and consists of 15 years of collecting studio gear all based around the MCI 542 D Series console from 1981. Fully restored, this is the hub to the whole operation which also has EMT compressors and limiters, 25+ synths including Moog, Prophet and Oberheim and a huge rack of drum machines and samplers. We did not intend to release remixes of Barnt's debut album "Magazine 13." – but here is why we had to change our minds: After Tale Of Us heard "Cherry Red", they asked for the stems with the idea they would craft a version for their sets – as luck would have it, Recondite happened to pass by the studio at just the right time, and together they ended up finishing a driving and vital interpretation of Barnt's melodic masterpiece. Around the same time Jens-Uwe Beyer had been quietly reshaping the same track. Prolonging the already massive breakdown towards the end of the track, his remix has been a highlight of Barnt's DJ sets over the past few months. The final piece of the puzzle came when Crato proposed the possible cover art – a bold remix in itself, reworking the original cover. The elements were in place, it became obvious this release had to see the light of day ... So here is Magazine 131. !

The Dutch Pinkman label is back with a new EP from Xosar, who debuts on the label and covers release number 10. Xosar is the Berlin based, American born producer who has excelled on LIES and Rush Hour with a unique, experimental sound that draws heavily on the hardware she uses as well as a live, freeform approach to arrangement. Here she comes correct once more with two new cuts of mystic techno. ‘World Of Illusion’ goes first and marries reverb rich claps and cacophonous hi hats with a tough bassline. Spritely and nimble and with thumping kicks down below, various bleeps, serene string sounds and glassy melodies colour the groove and make for engaging listening. On the flip, ‘Phasers of Eden’ is a kinetic fusion of ticking percussion, molten synths and withering chords that works you into an ethereal and otherworldly trance. Still with some all important drum funk powering things along down below, this is another idiosyncratic winner from Xosar.

Our first release for 2015 comes from Chicagoan, Area. His previous releases on various labels including his own, Kimochi, show a producer who spans many genres while maintaining a particular aesthetic. This untethered approach has lead to "One Less Me"—one of his most moving records to date. Area has melded elements from bass music, industrial, electroacoustic, spoken-word and techno into 3 tracks that distill their influences into something greater than the sum of its parts. Opener "Circadian" is built on a two-chord refrain to a stepping rhythm amidst a dank warehouse atmosphere. Spoken-word interlude, "One Less Me," is little more than a female voice processed and cleverly twisted over crisp electronic filigree. The EP closes with "XXeXX” (Crushkilled Version), which sounds like the remnants of the opening track after being drop-forged and scattered to the breeze—long peals of reverberating melodic feedback straining under a dense bank of static fog—breaking free every few measures to expand into the light, then crushed. "One Less Me" is the beginning of a new relationship that we look forward to see flourish in the future, and of course, to share it with you.

With U-TON 07 we're introducing ? (pronounced: 'Summe'). This collective of Berlin- based musicians has been propagating in the city's subculture during the past two years. With this release ? are offering some hypertextural and -percussive music. "These tracks should be regarded as an invitation. We would like to approach change, the new and unknown with an open mind in order to challenge our perception of union and normality. We understand this music as a consolidation of communicative events which intends to interlink and encourage appreciation of complex differences through friction, interference and beat instead of renouncing them by establishing perfect harmony. Beyond what is currently conceivable, we focus on a joint musical and physical experience which also intends to make the impossible feasible.

Yoruba Records is happy to welcome back label veterans Kiko Navarro and DJ Fudge with this tribal leaning surprise release. As the name BabaluAye (the praise name for the healer in the Orisha system) suggests, this package has taken on a diverse world music approach. The original mix opens with crystal clear vocals that compliment the wide array of live drums featured throughout. The mix comes into its own with the addition of atmospheric underlying keys and melodic guitar riffs. The club cut comes with a more pronounced, driving beat clearly meant for the floor and features well-crafted jazz-like piano lines sure to capture listeners in a trance. Le Soleil’s mix uses a smooth bass line that takes charge of the track and is complimented by a rhythm guitar and a hint of ambient keys that add fullness and depth to this cut. Moyuba has provided us with a seamlessly crafted dub that edges on the border of tech house and is as club ready as they come. Finally, the Cosmic dub brings this release to a close with a slow, rolling bass line, drawn out atmospheric synths and well placed stabs that will keep the room moving into the early morning.
