Neville Watson ends 2013, the year in which he released his debut album for Crème Organization, with a club-focussed 12” and the second in the DBA Special Editions series. Since remixing DBA003, and thereby providing one of the most requested tracks in the label’s history, it has only been a matter of time before the legendary UK producer joined the DBA camp for a full 12” release. In keeping with the remit of the Special Editions sub-label, all three tracks are aimed squarely at the dancefloor, but relative to previous Neville Watson releases they tread a significantly more Techno line, from the fused circuitry of Crossing The I’s to the deeper strains of Hot & Heavy, and the twisted bassline assault of Wired.

Hot on the heels of the release of Neville Watson’s Songs to Elevate Pure Hearts album, Crème Organization releases a three track EP of remixes from the longplayer. Drawing on diverse names, each of the remixers transforms their given track into something quite different from the original. The first is by Watson’s frequent collaborator, Bulgarian producer and live specialist KiNK. He tackles 'Songs To Elevate Pure Hearts' and laces it up with some lazy old rave breakbeats and plenty of lucid synth and melody pattern before fast rising Dixon Avenue Basement Jams associate Marquis Hawkes takes on 'Against The Tide'. He imbues it with what is fast become a trademark sonic weirdness, with wrought iron synth bars interlocking with molten synth lines and a slow, purposeful and predatory mood. Finally, American Moon B turns in a trippy outsider house version of 'Son Of House' with off kilter claps, see-sawing synths and organic drums. More

English producer and DJ Neville Watson will release his debut album on Dutch label Crème Organization in May 2013. Entitled Songs To Elevate Pure Hearts, it sees Watson explore similar ground to that of the EPs he has released on labels like Teng and Clone Jack For Daze dating back a whole decade. Watson, who also set up Windsor’s much loved Mighty Atom record store and label, has become synonymous with re-interpreting classic Chicago house sounds in his own heavily analogue way. His productions often deal in an authentic rawness and roughness, whilst as a live specialist he has been much in demand in recent times thanks to boundary nudging outings at clubs around Europe with Bulgarian partner in Crime, KiNK. The album offers eleven tracks, kicking off with the serene ‘Dark Star’ before immediately getting fractious with the twisted lines and crisp percussion of the title track. Though containing plenty of material for the dancefloor, so too is this a carefully programmed trip that takes you up as well as down, with the likes of ‘The Girl From Kowloon Tong’ exploring beat-less, melodically intoxicating territory between harder hitting joints like the widescreen, dubby techno of ‘Against The Tide’ and controlled, machine frenzy of ‘Everything I Know About House (I Learnt On Facebook)’. Tracks like ‘Axiomatic’ prove Watson as adept at crafting occult moods and unusual feelings as he is the more physical beats and classicist stylings of the ode to real house music that is ‘Son of House’. Taking you up, down, backwards and forwards through time and space, ‘Songs To Elevate Pure Hearts’ does exactly what the title suggests, no matter how pure your heart. More

'Sometimes life can kick you in the nads,' says Dominick Martin (aka Calibre). 'When life does do that, I need to make music like this. With its tones of hope and gospel-level layers of self-recorded vocals. Raw, uplifting, soulfull... Even to the most ardent of Calibre follower, ' Grow' sounds like nothing else he's done before. Yet it's not actually on the album it gave a name to. Partly because its ultimately positive veneer (even though it was written in the midst of two toxic relationships - one personal, one with the bottle) doesn't quite complement the deeper, more contemplative aesthetic of the album. But also because this is the start of a whole new story for Calibre... 'A part of Dominick is a poet and a part of him is a man who's lived through Northern Ireland at its worst,' observes Craig Richards . 'There's a gentleness and a tension to him and his past and his experiences. Somewhere in that middle ground is his music.'

Despite building their careers out of strikingly different musical places, both dBridge and Radioactive Man have taken influence from the field in which each other operate. dBridge (Darren White) was part of the iconic drum & bass outfit Bad Company and he helms one of the scene's most solid and quality imprints in Exit Records and Radioactive Man (Keith Tenniswood) was born from the acid house scene and the off kilter electronics of his Two Lone Swordsman projects (alongside Andrew Weatherall) which led him to create his decidedly UK take on Drexciyan electro. It's by no means a stretch to learn that both producers have crates that contain their favourites from each genre but they've also found a mutual respect and connection in the studio over the last few years, leading to the dBRm moniker for Craig Richards' The Nothing Special label. More

At the 2014 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, BACARDI turned the movements of 100,000 wild bats into an exclusive music track. Using bespoke motion tracking technology, the team used the swarming of the bats to trigger unique beats and mix the track's tone and tempo as they flew. This limited Vinyl pressing of 200 copies features three Craig Richards remix's of that track. More

After the success of The Nothing special events a label of the same name begins. The events so far have been held at Fabric of course and New York. The concept is simply that Craig plays all night around live acts. Previous guests have been Pole, Deadbeat, Moritz von Oswald Trio, Emperor Machine, Convextion, Dopplereffekt. 2652, Shackleton and Conforce.....The depth of Craig's musical knowledge as a DJ provides a sense of structure to the parties. The Nothing Special in weekly radio show format commences imminently. First release is by Radionasty - The combined force of Billy Nasty and Keith Tenniswood.
