Monty Luke release ‘Nightdubbing’ LP on Rekids.The Black Catalogue bosses' second album explores dub-infused dance music and, following the recent two EP drops on Rekids, will be released on Radio Slave’s imprint on 29 March. Succeeding part two of Monty Luke’s ‘Nightdubbing’ series on Rekids, the US-via-Berlin artist unveils an album of the same name on Radio Slave’s lauded Rekids imprint. ‘Nightdubbing’ encompasses the ?rst two instalments and adds ?ve more tracks of intricate sonic material, completing this gorgeous work of art already supported by Fred P, nd_baumecker, Louise Chen, and Laurent Garnier. Luke’s ‘Nightdubbing’ album starts in the club, with the rave-primed ‘40 Acres And A Terabyte’ utilising the rich melodies of deep house alongside the crushing weight of subs. It is followed by the title track, with ‘Nightdubbing’ taking a more traditional house route, its soothing sounds enveloping the listener while honing in on that reverb sweet spot. Black Catalogue boss and former Planet-E label manager Monty Luke’s timeless ‘Nightdubbing’ e?ortlessly traverses deep house and techno rife with bass-rattling low-end and experimental rhythms. It is no surprise, then, that the album is heavily inspired by ‘70s and mid-80s dub reggae, seeing Luke incorporate and modernise the genre’s iconic rhythms, spoken word poetry, and spacious bursts of harmony across the LP. ‘Bob Molly’ picks up pace with nods to Caribbean dem bow-like rhythms of old, Monty Luke ?lling the space between its infectious beat with tumbling percussion and echoing plucks. Tracks like ‘Supernova’, ‘New World / Old Future’ and ‘Starstorms’ return to the modern-day traditions of club music while ‘Future Mystic’ and ‘Avant Garde Dance Hall ‘, again ?nd room in between the dance?oor and sound system listening sessions. Monty Luke spent ten formative years in Detroit, where the city's unique musical spirit in?uenced him immensely. He has since distilled this experience into the music he has released on labels like Rekids, Planet-E, Hypercolour, and his own Black Catalogue. His raw, dub-infused sound comes with plenty of futuristic designs, and this ?nal complete iteration of ‘Nightdubbing’ continues to push the boundaries of his music. More

Other than being Carl Craig's right-hand man at Planet E Communications, Monty Luke has been building quite the reputation lately with solid releases on labels like Planet E, Mothership, and his own Black Catalogue imprint. The Bomb On Bomb EP consists of three originals that cross the boundaries from acid house to funky techno to four-on-the-floor downtempo. "In Love With A Dancer" is the EP's total driver, with meaty synth stabs, teasing builds, and cleverly processed vocal treatments that scatter though the mix. "Bomb On Bomb" is a sly combination of classic-sounding acid house keys, pulsating rhythms, and a soulful vocal going on about a sexy lady. The Dogmatik imprint returns with a fresh four-track EP from Lumina, entitled 'Long Time Coming' and backed with Rndm and Jimmy Clanfield remixes. Alison Marks and Helen Copnall aka Lumina met during studies at Manchester University where the pair embraced the diverse and thriving rave scene the city has to offer. Soon after meeting the duo begun to craft compositions together, Marks focuses on the sound design, mixing and vocal aspects of the productions, much like she does in her other project Wallflower, while Copnall works the synthesizers with an acute attentiveness for programming. Here we see Lumina offer up a stunning debut under this title via the Dogmatik imprint, following the footsteps of now established artists such as Maya Jane Coles, Dusky and of course label-head Alex Arnout. The original mix of title cut 'Long Time Coming' opens up the release, a charming, understated record led by dreamy arpeggiated synth lines and soft ethereal atmospherics. Wh ile the rugged rhythms and throbbing sub bass tones generate a powerful dance-floor focused edge to contrast the hypnotic textures. Following we're provided with a remix of 'Long Time Coming' from the ever on-point Rndm, a producer who maintains a quality over quantity release schedule, as expected we're treated to a raw and gritty workout fuelled by punchy offkilter drums, infectious low-end grooves and an ever-evolving dynamic laid out over seven minutes, yet another intelligent and dexterous piece of work here from the German producer. On the flip side we have a second offering from Lumina entitled 'Gina X', once again taking on a dreamy feel with jazz-tinged synth lines, swirling, shuffled percussion and tension building strings as the bumpy bass hook carries the groove with ease throughout the tracks duration. The package is then rounded off with a 'Long Time Coming' rework from London based producer Jimmy Clanfield, who tips the focus over to a more reserved, stripped-back feel, bringing penetrating rhythms, heady bass and processed vocal snippets to the forefront, while the subdued synth sounds simmer away in the depths of the background.
